How does the Tlaxcala Nahuatl differ.. My mother's family's from there & even though she wasn't a N8V speaker, they would use Nahuatl words for certain things & animals..
It's basically more of a Central Variety, but with a little bit of an eastern influence. The pronunciation is pretty much the same, Tlaxcala doesn't have -ya endings like huasteca does (Yalwa vs. Yalwaya for example). Also the past tense will be different. Coyotl as a term for non natives is kind of negative, as coyotes steal from natives just like europeans do. No plant words get mandatory plural, but i have heard xochimeh used a few times, but not mandatory. Sometimes the plural is used if you are talking about various types of flowers for example. Yep, Altepetl is a former diphrase! Im not sure how many others are hidden out there but that is something to look out for.
Is there a reason why with miston, while having an 'n', we add meh to it for mistonmeh while with michin, we drop the 'n' for michimeh? Thank you very much
Good noticing Miston comes from mistli + ton, so the n is part of the ton and its fused into the word While in michin, its made of michi-n so the n can be dropped , its not fused onto the word permanently

Koyotl is the word for Coyote.. I know people whose name is Koyotl and nothing negative is implied with that name or animal. Even the Koyotl as a guide or nagual isn't negative. The coyote is one of the oldest living mammals and is often referenced when speaking about how our ancestors should structure their society. Clearly it's being forgotten if we would use that word as a insult.

You will have a hard time finding native speakers left anywhere near mexico cith since large cities put pressure to assimilate, but yeah its mostly the same language but some minor grammatical changes you can study about. You can always study both. Huasteco the language is a type of mayan, correct. I think all varities are great. They all have their own flavor. The central varieties are more related to Cuauhtemocs variety of mexico city, but they have a lot of Spanish borrowings even with grammar. To me the huasteca variety is more conservative in some ways, so in those ways its more similar to ancient nahuatl
