- Todd Tuckey shows you a rare game system that Sega released in 1989. Not many have survived in the USA. The game system had 48 different game cartridges that can easily be switched out! Similar to Nintendo's Playchoice Ten system, this uses both a z80 and a 68000 processor.

I love this Mega Tech cabinet with the 2 screens :D
It was a terrific idea and compact cabinet
I actually have one of these standing here, it is one of the top pieces of my collection.
Thank you for taking the time to show us the mega tech. Im a huge gamer/arcade player and never saw these and I grew up in the 80s
+paul gregory Glad you enjoyed it Paul!
I used to own a sega mega tech arcade machine. I bought it at an antique shop in new britain ct. I had it in my game room for many year. Sadly i lost the house and gave the system to a buddy. Over the years I've lost contact with him but i know he still has it in his game room.
+ayalajim Wow.....these machines are so incredibly neat to own!
I'm addicted too we would all love to see your game room Todd great video
Great video Todd We would love to see a tour of your game collection :D
My Uncle in 1969 bought a campground and asked me to buy games he could put on coin op in it! Thats when we started buying games...I was 14!
I have 32 of the cartridges so far! Todd
Great cabinet, we had one of these sadly we sold it but the UK version here was also the same as the one you displayed.
Great video guys
+ItsMuchMore Thanks!!
Good vídeo, i love its amazing machines árcades . Thank you
God damn, that shits pretty sweet. Nice little history too
Thanks for commenting!
MegaTech I read is actually a 8/16 bit system (68000 main and Z80 for sound in Genesis mode or Z80 doing all in master system mode) Most of the hardware is based on Genesis Hardware. Some of them are master system (it has the built in converter). However, the carts are different as there is an extra chip used for the menu system. The menu system uses a separate Z80 processor.
Pretty decent all things considered for what was essentially a rival to the PlayChoice 10.
WOW! Now that becoumes my favorite chanel!
I guess Sega didn't want to chance distributing this here, (with what the Nintendo's Playchoice 10), though nice Sega thought to include both Mega Drive and Master System carts together.
t may seem strange to you but as a child about 1996/7 in a tourist resort in Sicily I played an arcade version of aladdin in a multigames cabinet in the arcade ..
what's interesting about it is that even though the cartridges are shaped like the Mega Drive cartridges, there are special PCBs to ensure that the user doesn't put in their own games (mainly since the special carts feature extra data such as the information used by the upper screen).
Any idea how much these machines are worth? I have one in the UK.
I almost forgot to mention. the first cartridge titled Super Real Basketball is actually known in the US as Pat Riley Basketball which serves as one of many celebrity endorsed sports games which include legendary sport icons like Tommy Lasorda, Arnold Palmer, and even James ''Buster'' Douglas (thing was that Sega of America pulled all the stops by having many famous people work on Sega Genesis games in order to attract a wider audience to the then new console back in 1990).
Good trivia on this game!
I'd like to make a cabinet similar to this running mame with 2 monitors just like this.
we have one on location at Game Galaxy Arcade Antioch,TN
It's coming...we want to try to fit it into each episode of a potential Reality Show.
I'm officially addicted to your videos. Where do you learn to work on amusement machines?
What happens when the time runs out? Does the game pause until you put more money in?
Yes...you can add money to continue!
This is fascinating to me...you said a guy in Connecticut had 5? I *SWEAR* I've played one of these before, very briefly at a movie theater in CT. The only thing is, I'm almost fairly certain it had the Sega Master System version of Ghostbusters on it. I wonder if the one I played was one of those five.
Very informative! Could you repeat the name of the distributor? I'd like to do a bit of research on it.
I have a Sega Mega Play kit (including PCB, side art and control panel) for concerting this to play Mega Play (Genesis) cartridges.
Maybe someone out there will want to convert one....
I kept your advice...now I have 2 of them... but I am not interested in the most games (especially Master/System games), but have one guy in my group that made me custom-cartridges including control-monitoring on the 9"-monitor
Thats great! Glad you are enjoying yours!
But am very curious how that timer system works,as far as i know it’s completely independend from those games but all i know is when you keep feeding it with money ,it will extend your play time.
There's one in my grandparent's house that's been dusting away for more then 25 years. Last time i played on it was about 11 years ago. TNT could you recommend some forums where i can find more technical information about it? All the original joysticks (red, black) and buttons still work!
P.S. I was always wandering what was the little door in the lower for, since on the one that I have it's just a door with a key opening. It's for North American dollars, now I know =].
Does this one work on Time per Token as well?
Which Mega Tech games do you have in your personal collection?
I have one here in Romania. Its made in Belgium. I still try to refurbish it. I have some problems with the flyback transformer from big crt. (i have to replace it because its dead) Work in progress... :) / PS: all 8 games are still in (2 pieces of Golden Axe, Ghouls'n Ghosts,Altered Beasts, Super Real Basketball, Super ThunderBlade, Tetris, Space Harrier ll.
It will be worth it...these Megatechs have skyrocketed in value!
I know that :) / I replaced the FBT and surprise!!.. The CRT was highly magnetized. I replaced that to, but after few hours the FBT was dead again... dont know why.. :/ (i replaced all most capacitors from pcb) So i replaced a second FBT in 3 days. I hope this one will work for long. I don't want to replace it with a LCD. I want it to be original.
So was the version of tetris available for these machines based off of Sega's un-released Genesis version or is it a completely different version/made by a different developer?
It could have been...but I don't know for sure
Seems like it was! The Tetris release on the Mega Drive mini seems to be an exact version from this video 👌🏻
i just added a mega tech to my collection i swaped it for another one of my arcade cabs. needs some work.

Where in alabama? I live in northeast and I really want to play sonic 1 on this thing
Private home arcade!
Are the games all basically the master system versions?
Mostly Genesis, but he appeared to have SMS games in it.
I get one of that soon but really dont like the console-graphics.
I hope from the 48 cardridges I get 8 that are good. Moonwalker for example sucks the hard way compared to the arcade version. Final Fight seems to be on one level with the arcade version but I am not positive on this. Sonic is the reason why I have bought this machine...now I have to find 7 games more.
+Hirthirthirt There are still quite a few good games...Golden Axe is good!
+TNT Amusements Inc I have to check them all...I thought Ghost'n Gouls looms good but I directly compaired it to the arcade version an saw how much worse it looks.
+Hirthirthirt All the high end Mega-Drive games (apart from Sonic) they did not put on the Megatech....like Tiny Toons Adventures or Castle of Illusions... :(
Maybe toe jam and earl?
How much did this sell for Todd?
It was $2799 about 4 years ago...now it would probably be $3600
plus tax and freight
do u have one for sale
Sold out right now...so few made!
