- Time for another great intermediate machinist's project as I make a my own boring head for the home shop.
These aren't incredibly hard to make, but they're definitely worth while and I had great fun thinking through all the challenges that needed to be overcome, especially with regards to fixturing and indicating in features.
The boring head has a 20mm straight shank with a 50mm diameter body, designed to take 12 mm boring bars it's on par with some of the smaller commercially available boring heads. other than a dovetail cuttet and maybe a reamer though, not much is required to make one of these for yourself, so I hope I inspire some to give it a try
Thanks Mark! I really enjoyed it. Please keep them coming.
Great video👌 keep em.coming
Funny, you and Artisan Makes releasing "the boring head video" today. Nice work. Maybe consider shorter bars to reduce the chatter.
it seems like they copied each other almost all the way down to the design with out knowing it
Good work. We shared this video on our homemade tools forum this week 😎
Nice Job! This design is similar to one done by This Old Tony a while back. These heads are really useful. But….what is really cool is if someone would tackle a wohlehaupter head or the exotic and rate Tree taper boring head. I would do it but I am moving my shop and home and won’t be able to post machine videos for a while.
Great video!
Very nice work
Nicely done. You and Artisan Makes need to co-ordinate video scheduling 😆
I like the idea of assembling the top and bottom before the boring operation for the dial.
Haha yeah, I remember the same thing happened a while back with Blondihacks and Adam Savage both doing videos on knurling tool builds right around the time I was thinking of adding one of those to the project list
Where did u get the micro dial?
Great video
Good job .
