Great video as usual. You guys have helped me a lot. For what it's worth i didn't care to yank my mirror out so I used a flat edge screwdriver and a brake adjusting spoon to lever it out. Secondly, when installing the replacement mirror I didn't want to tap the spring and mirror in place with a hammer. Using a small C-clamp i was able to compress the spring, then using 1/16" baling wire I made a narrow U shape loop to slip over the pin. With the closed loop end of wire facing down I slid the mirror in place and while maintaining pressure upward, used a needle nose pliers to grab the loop and pull the wire out. That's what worked for me. Again thanks for the videos and I hope you keep them coming.
The easiest way to re-install the mirror is to use to place the right spring loaded part in first and use a flat head screwdriver to wedge in the small casting window where you can see the spring and compress on the left side pry lightly between casting and spring to compress it and push lightly up on the mirror. It slides right in with no effort. I tried the method the socket extension method but could not get it to work.
Great video! on the install take your mirror and place the spring in the center one side will. fit take you a screwdriver the longer the better and then take a hammer place it in the corner of the flat surface where the springs are at. and use the force from your hammer to the flathead screwdriver to get it back in place this is for the opposite side that is popping out 6:15 God Bless and God Bless Texas 🇺🇸
If you are watching this video and have a GL450 and want to remove the mirror DO NOT GRAB IT AND YANK IT DOWN AS SHOWN IN THIS VIDEO. In a 2008 GL450 (plus or minus a couple years) the mirror must be slid off the bracket attached to the window. Be careful when sliding it off because the rain module is close and you could damage it. I just wanted to make sure nobody damaged the GL. This video is a good video for this model. I have a GL450 and was looking for tips. Good luck DIY brothers.
If you having trouble I might be able to help. Put the mirror in right side. Then get a mallet, screwdriver and hammer. Put the mallet under the left side and apply pressure. Then have a second person put the end of a screw driver on the metal bit sticking out of the spring. Hit the screw driver with the hammer. Once it’s in a bit hold, hit the mallet with the hammer. Should go in after a few tries.
wrong, get a flat headed screw driver and put it in the centre of the spring and prise the centre spring to one side while pushing the unit up and it will ping straight in
Very helpful video like usual...thanks man but do u know where I can order that whole assembly and mirror???...due to a fight in the car mines is all gone n broken and it looks terribly ugly
Hello colleagues! My car is a Mercedes Benz w211 with a regular mirror, I got a new one with a dimming function. My question is what does it take to start working normally - is it necessary to have a separate fuse for the mirror or do I need to go to an old-diagnostics, or do I need to do something else? Thanks!
There is a trick to install the mirror. Using hammer to force in does not work. Use a small C clamp to compress the spring through the pins. Then use two nails as shims to prohibit the pins to bounce back. Pull the pins out when mirror is in position.
hello can you help me i have a mercedes w211 220 2004 when i turn it on cold my car starts to shake later when it heats up i have no problem with everything everything is normal i replaced the agr injector but always the same problem thanks in advance
The video is basic but helpful. At least I know how to get it apart. I wouldn't use your methods tho. To shade tree for me. To easy to break something. Some of your viewers had better methods.
Caution! I just tried to remove the rear view mirror on my w164 ML350, it looked just the same as yours but did not pull off! The first time I pull down it broke off of the windshield. Now I need to replace the windshield! CAUTION to anyone who tries this. I'm also an auto body collision repair technician with 30 years experience but was unsuccessful removing the mirror... UGH😩
Hello, While attempting to reinstall the mirror, I knocked the tension Spring out of the back. How can I get it back in? Do I have to get another mirror? S.O.S.
@@rodflo2979 this is actually ideal if only i could see how lol i tested it out after removing the whole assembly and worked fine. But with the horse shoe metal attached is another story
This is not the correct method to reinstall a mirror on the w211 - first compress the spring fitting and the small wire piece will fall between the edge of the casting and the spring. This will cause one end of the double ended pins to be slightly recessed. Then install the pin end still fully out and push up and in on the pin end slightly recessed - the small wire will be pushed out the way and the recessed pin will pop out - holding the mirror in place - no hammering on cast metal!
I agree! Whenever I hear an Eastern European accent with respect to Mercedes I know I am going to save money and learn a lot! I have learned a lot from this gentlemen with the "irritating" ESL accent.

Wow truely a great comment and very well explained, just popped my mirror in with no effort after struggling for an hour haha
I struggled for 5 minutes hammering on my amg like a MONKEY and then tried this and it worked within 10 seconds without any effort, smart man 😂
@@Royalwaffles had I known this would help more people I would've created a video myself ... maybe I should! :)
OMG! Awesome! I was really struggling. The ONLY way for a 1 man job. THX!

The buttons on mine stopped working, I want to be able to open my garage door with it.

Hello,
While attempting to reinstall the mirror, I knocked the tension Spring out of the back. How can I get it back in? Do I have to get another mirror?
S.O.S.
same thing happened to me. What did you do?
I replaced the spring with a different one that has less tension. It holds the mirror in place but not as sturdy as the original spring....
James Early sorry to disturb you. Where did you find the spring and was it easier to insert it back into place?
Use a channel lock pliers and fit the spring on one end while squeezing the other end and slip the opposite end in

What tool can I use to compress my mirror spring ?
For me the wore makes little to no difference, i think I will go the hammer route
Stop saying
