  • Can the new Surpass Rocket V2 ESC beat Castle and Hobbywing at their own game? Let's take a look at the 6s 150A version and find out. Is this a good choice for your Arrma, Traxxas, Redcat or Team Corally?

    I've used this ESC 150amp paired with 4092 1650kv in my typhon 6s for month now so far no issues on ESC and the 4092 rocket motor is fantastic.

      Yeah the only problem I found with it is that it seems to have just a slight bit more delay than hobbywing or Castle ESCs. Not a huge deal but it is something to mention. Overall it's been a pretty good ESC especially for the price

    I’ve used surpass motors and esc’s for years and they’ve always performed really well. I’m currently running a rocket motor in my 1/5 30dnt and also my Arrma Mojave and Hobao 1/8 monster truck. I also use hobbywing stuff but I don’t think it’s necessary to spend a fortune to get reasonably good equipment! Interesting video.

      Yeah they seem to do pretty well. I know the first generation ESCs tended to have a problem with self-destructing if they were pushed too hard but so far at least my sample of the second generation ESC doesn't seem to have that problem. It's actually pretty straightforward. All you would need to do is Pick which connector you're going to use desolder the jumper side wire that goes between the two connectors from it then desolder the wire that goes from the connector you're not going to use back to the ESC and solder that wire back onto the spot where you desolder the jumper from the connector you're going to use.

    update: mine 60 A 2-3s capable died after around 6 months of use on 2s. The on off button started getting bad and eventually the esc itself stopped wotking (i shorted the switch cables but still it was dead). Definetively not wather damaged since it was in my xv01, so well protected. Opening it was a mess since , even if the schrew were there, the case was basically glued and needed to be broken to be opened. Was sold as sensored but, in reality, the cable was only for the motor temperature. Any adjustment, lile drag brake etc, outside punch made the esc acting strange and vrought any sort of malfunction. I dearly suggest to get an hobbywing, this esc are a hit or miss and sometimes they are just not worth it.

The larger the tires the lower the effective mechanical advantage the motor has on the drivetrain so the harder it works to move the vehicle. If you run a smaller pinion gear / larger spur gear or smaller tires It puts less stress on the power system because of greater mechanical advantage and things will run cooler.

    • @DoRC

      I disagree. Castle and hobbywing are by far the two largest power system providers in this country. When people are choosing a power system to buy They will almost certainly be making a decision between Castle and hobbywing. Castle does have some advantages and hobbywing has other advantages. Lately most of the advantages are hobby wings but I think given that those two companies are what the vast majority of people will be choosing between It's at least conceivable to lump them together.

      @DoRC  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @needmoreboost6369 Yes several years ago Castle was far superior to hobbywing in pretty much every aspect other than price. I still think Castle holds the edge on features and quality but the gap is way way closer than it used to be and hobby wing has most if not all of the same features that Castle has on their higher end stuff. It's also really hard to argue the value proposition. Hobbywing stuff is quite a bit cheaper than castles and for most people is more than sufficient. I do wish it wasn't like that because I like to support US companies but these days Castle just doesn't have many of the advantages that they used to.

    One time you buy from brands like Surpass hobby and Rocket rc and you never buy again. I bought a double fan with a heatsink all in one set and this thing sends a lot of air to cooling the motor but esc and motors never again. These things are trash and thats why are cheap. There are some reasons that cost cheaper than the other big brands. I have fried an 60 amp esc from surpass hobby years before and i never bought again. Even the traxxas electronics that are the worst from the big brands have 10 ms delay ONLY when you push the throttle. That thing here has a lot of delay and when you need fast response before the model crash with the nose in the dirt it will not help and you will breake the model. If you want to give a try, yes of course, it's your money, but me i am very stricted to the expensive brands even that i buy them with the very hard way.

    • @DoRC
      @DoRC  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I agree that the older surpass and rocket ESCs were junk. The new ones are a bit better though. I also think that their motors are pretty good. I have run probably two dozen different surpass or rocket brand motors over the years and never had a single failure. I'm sure they're not quite as fancy as the ones from Castle but a motor is a pretty simple device and the rocket/surpass ones work well in my experience. That being said I definitely understand wanting to get the good stuff. It's always a risk when you buy cheap things especially because when you have a problem you're probably on your own. Hobbywing has also discontinued their sensorless brushless Motors. I find these new G2 escs a massive negative for the RC community instead of having more diversity and more choices in what we can get for our rc vehicles Its the opposite.. i wanted to get a hobbywing 4074 2200kv motor turns out its discontinued and you can’t get it

      You don't have to run a sensored motor on any sensor capable ESC. They will happily run sensorless as well. Sensored motors will also happily run sensorless on a sensorless ESC. If you simply have a fundamental issue with sensored setups You could buy the G2 combo and just disconnect the sensor lead and it'll still work fine.
