I went from my high school toyota celica to the 2019 STI, my dream car, and I totally agree with all your reviews of the car. Aside from it's stunning and killer looks, I absolutely love the feel and power of this car! Driving can never be boring again
The thing people don’t understand about STI is, its a perfect canvas for building an incredible car. They give you a bulletproof MANUAL transmission capable of handling 1000hp, six piston Brembo BRAKES that many higher priced sports cars don’t offer even on their top models, AWD with proper LSD’s, beefy axles, etc... all for mid $40k!!! Yeah, the engine is no 2JZ, but building an EJ25 is not only much cheaper than a 2JZ, its also much easier. People, please do your research about the STI and don’t listen to TH-camr’s, alot of them have more money than brains unfortunately. I own a 2019 STI and it has stronger pistons than previous STI models, but they are NOT FORGED!!!
I love the smaller size and the looks of the older STI’s. But My ‘18 STI is 1000 times safer if I get hit by a drunk driver. The chassis is way stiffer, brakes better, interior better. I have a daughter and needed the most reliable, safest, STI possible so I bought my ‘18 brand new. It just depends what you want. I love my car, but as a second or third car I still want a 22B replica or a blob eye someday... and another 240sx, and an R32, I miss my RX7, I’ve always wanted an S2k, a Miata for track days, a JZX chaser... a 510... oh and...
Keep the 18 sti, I got tboned by a guy who was either drunk or texting or whatever he wasn’t paying attention and accelerated instead of braking at a red light, came at me and my girlfriend and another person at about 50+ I was making a left turn and he was in an f150 the sti spun about 3 times, last thing I remembered was hearing the glass shatter and seeing it fly, my girlfriend told me I got knocked out and we spun 3 times, my friend in the backseat was against the door the truck hit... my girlfriend had pieces of glass stuck in her hair and the back of her head and my friend was almost completely fine besides a messed up arm, the car was totaled but we all walked away okay, safety is what matters
I have that same car but 2018 and I think the recaro seats come with certain trims or as a add on,I have the 18 sti limited. Limited is the only one with sunroof for sure. Also the 2019 and don’t have forged pistons I think they are just “reinforced” whatever that means lol I love my 18 it’s my daily, not the best on gas but worth it.
Damn when I was young like these guys I got a Subaru GL coupe, hatch, 5 speed. That thing was fun, I can't imagine what this is like though. Mind blasted.
I had a 2019 WRX and now I have a 2019 STI and YES brembos are soooooo much better. You can stop on the dime! Sometimes in other people’s cars I forget they don’t have brembos you have to actually prepare yourself to stop at a red light. STI you just stop whenever ya want🙃
@@saviordream Congrats dude 2019 owner as well. My advise to you put IAG AOS right away ant catback exhaust after for unlock rumble..keep it STOCK!!!!! Do not mess with it till powertrain W expires.. Enjoyeeeeee
@@VachOrd thanks man! Have a catback on order that is supposed to arrive towards the end of the month. Planning on doing an AOS next spring, which shouldn't be a problem as the car isn't a daily and will not get many miles put on it by then.
The biggest difference in the new and old brakes are the cost. When I bought my ‘17 STI in March I test drove a new 19, a used 18, and a used 17. The 19 felt the best because it was brand new, but between the used 18 and 17 I honestly couldn’t tell the difference. That may be because the 17 had upgraded pads, but if that’s all you need to get similar daily performance then I’m not sure the new brakes are worth as much as Subaru says they are. Maybe on the track it’s a different story. Having said all that, they look freakin sick.
Alexander Vargas Subaru’s term was “revised” pistons but no further elaboration and the guys who have done engine teardowns noted they’re the same as the RA, but even then those aren’t too different.
@@TheComedySpirit I've built a few forged internal engines, and you can definitely tell the difference by just looking at the pistons. All Subaru did was reinforce them to make them a little stronger, but nothing compares to a forged piston.
One thing is the new generation 2022 wrx sti (maybe 2023 ?) Will supposedly have 400hp in the fa 2.4 litre engine probably tuned from factory ( or will it be 360 hp )? Anyway I can't help but feel sti enthusiast's will miss that classic boxer rumble of unequal length headers ... shame you can't get more economical engines to nail that exact same sound
Same shortblock as my Type RA but no sodium filled valves. Then again the S209 releases shortly. Still dont understand why these didnt get forged internals sooner considering all the stock engine failures over the years.
Only the whole back of the seats are Recaro , the part you actually sit on is from factory, an original sti seat. And yes the pistons are reinforced which mean the pistons are made with a more durable material, along with the webbing of the rods filled. The pin connecting the piston and rod I believe is cold steel. Either way you are right that they could definitely up their game on this car, and the 2019/2020 Subaru sti s209 was just released to America, in fact I’m test driving one in about 3 weeks at my local dealership here in Washington. According to my sales manager friend it’s going to be upwards of $70’000 or more with 341hp and I believe 310lbs of torque. It has chassis reinforcement along with a pretty awesome bar in the back the pre springs your suspension. Good video though, as a side note, if anyone desires to add more than 350whp any good subaru mechanic will tell you ARP engine studs, racing gaskets, re sleeve the motor if you can afford it, rods, pistons, valves, and springs. That way your motor could max out at 850whp but could easily run 450whp for a couple years with proper maintenance. With the right care a Subaru ej25 is an amazing motor.
Every 1 knows the best impreza/wrx/sti are years 2007 n older. Newer subies suck big ol dick. Slow as shit. Better get a aos befoe you engine grenades around 40k miles.
From 2015 and up the WRX has the FA20 and the STI still has EJ. The STI comes with brembos, better suspension and I believe the DCCD control. The WRX is very basic compared to the STI
The WRX is smoother and more of a daily car. It handles great and gets good gas mileage and responds well to bolt ons. The STi is more hardcore and more sporty. Better brakes, far better drive train, and the good ole EJ257. However it’s not so much of an ideal daily as the WRX... but for a build, it’s more ideal. The STi is also torquier but not as smooth and linear as the wrx.
travis kuncl Well yea, the sti has been out for years, with the same engine. Let after market companies work on parts for a little more and the type r will remain faster.
2019 sti have stronger cast pistons than previous years. THEY ARE NOT FORGED. Please do more research before putting misleading info to the public.
Completely agree
sorry does this mean they are good

I mean the old 06-07 STI had the top safety pick at its time. Sure newer cars are safer but at what level?
WRX STI is the only car with more street appeal.
Test drove this car with my dad, it’s sick , I have a wrx so I love subie a but in my opinion, it’s way overpriced, and it should be faster
You can get keyless entry/push to start and the recaros on the base model.
Yep just gotta option them in but when all said and done your not saving much from just getting limited

All about your tires unless you're cooking the brakes doing laps. Then it's about the rest of the brake system (rotors, pads, fluid).
They’re not forged pistons. Neither are Type RA from which the exact shortblock is used in the base 19 STi
Then Subaru lied to us hahahahaha

STis are detuned from factory when they are imported from Japan due to emissions.
Not really, Japan gets a completely different engine in the sti than the U.S. does
