Firion might be Amano's best work (well alongside Terra). Always liked how Dissidia depicted him and Emperor (except for the roses obssesion), perhaps FF2 deserves a _real_ second chance someday, a re-imagining.
Firion is one of my fav protags as there's nothing special about him he's just a guy who wanted to do what's right and fight for freedom and his home land unlike many other FF protags who are chosen by crystals or prophecy or whatever or they're already soldiers. I really love what Dissidia did with him they made him so compassionate and humble and relatable in his lack of confidence and down to earth attitude. The roses thing is also nice symbolism it's not really an obsession with flowers, as they had no memories the rose reminded him of his home world where he is part of the wild rose rebellion and the wild rose being the symbol for the kingdom of Fynn. The rose is all he has to go on in regards to his memories and such so it's important to him. His wish to see flowers bloom is just his wish for a peaceful world which ties in with his purpose in FF2, I really wish 2 would get a remake to fix the stat system and flesh out the characters/story more there is so much potential there.
I don't know if SE have the full rights to the _Nightmare's Labyrinth_ novel, but it actually gave Firion and Emperor some interesting background and development and they could use *_some_* of that. Minwu, Josef, Scott and Ricard are actually good characters already, Soul of Rebirth helped them abit, still they would need more. Leon have a big role in the story, and shouldn't be difficult to give him extra stuff, and Gordon is ok. Maria, Guy, Layla and Borghen...might prove difficult to develop. Emperor needs more spotlight this time, and perhaps some competent goons with personality, and the lore could use some revamp (Heaven and Hell is too goofy nowadays). Well, it is probably the worst for the West fanbase, but Japan actually likes it, doesn't mean they shouldn't do anything with again, moreso since we're in the age of reboots.
Well considering 3 got remade with barely any character development I'm sure they could do something for 2 which already has character foundations and has a pretty decent following in Japan (likely thanks to Dissidia) I see way more fanart and fans for 2 than 1 and 3 etc I see more art for it than 4 even but well I follow a lot of 2 fans so that's why lol but when I search pixiv etc for Dissidia or whatever Firion/FF2 stuff I see more regularly (Firion especially is popular with girls lol I think he has the most female AC players). I know of the novel someone is currently translating it, from what I've read Dissidia Firion and novel Firion personalities are similar. As long as they don't make Firion x Maria canon I'd be fine cos I hate that adopted siblings trope so much. Doubt you could change the heaven and hell thing without changing Emperor completely it's fine to keep it as it is though if they went off the novel that wouldn't be so much of an issue but it would also be kind of boring. Emperor was also good in 2 anyway one of the best villains imo and one of the smartest. They all just need some added depth and it would be fine as I would be expecting more of a 3 and 4 style remake than a full blown 3D one. Tbh the most complaints I see which I agree with are the gameplay like the stat system fix that and it will already greatly improve the game. Story wise its one of my favourites and although simple and lacks development I still liked it as it's much darker than most FF.

I'm waaay too well aware of that XD I blame the Meteor users for all my demotions lol. But yeah, in a way it will definitely be better now after the rework, since the immobility was the biggest issue.
He can still set up pretty well if you watch the AC footage that's around which makes me happy he just has better safety options. I actually don't use the ice wand all that often for that reason especially when there is search HP, chaining to backward is better so you can dodge out of the way in time or catch them again whilst they're still recovering. It's the absorb effect I will miss most with the ice wand though especially as its so great for defense.

Since this patch to the current one: 1.3x Firion has: Slightly increased damage on all his combo moves. Slightly increased damage on Plummet. Can now chain any of his aerial moves from Chain Move Blood Weapon now heals teammates on any bravery hit, including his bravery damage on his HP moves(as a "Shadow Buff").
His game wasn't my favorite in the franchise, but I feel kind of bad for him. He had to endure a lot of pain and tribulation to defeat a corrupt empire. Just like I did when I played Final Fantasy 2. But he's pretty cool here. And damn, is that music so great. Man, every single game in the franchise just has some great compositions.
I like Firion's better considering he has a specific set that he carries with him and uses magic to control actual physical weapons while Noctis just conjures weapons like a sorcerer. Noctis is only really different because of the warp ability. It's also great to see Firion handle the weapons like a swiss army knife.
To be honest, with the exception of Bartz's Knight and Exdeath Omniblock, I dont think HP counters are all that good since if the opponents just spam HP attacks since they know you can only really hurt them through countering brave attacks, theres not much you can do.
I know this is really late, but I noticed that you put X as the brave attack in your videos. From research, I've found out that some old build of DFFAC has this configuration; not sure if you know it by now, but II is actually the Brave attack in DFFAC for a while now, which is the equivalent of O in a PS4 pad. (I is △, III is X, IV is □) Thankfully you can change config within NT, so this isn't really a problem, but I do know some people who've had some transition problems that was also using X for Brave and then went to the arcade to find out that O is Brave. Just felt like pointing that out

Squall was op in the PSP games but in this version he is too dependant on the ridiculously hard to pull off triggers. Still love playing him.
