Also the first to have fleshed out main characters with backstories and defined personalities. The first to have Ultima as a spell, Chocobos, and helped set the standard gameplay mechanics.
Even the remasters of FF2 are really.. not approachable in general. They tried to do a lot (there's a literal system for manually asking about certain keyword topics like in Fallout 1/2) but didn't do much to balance it all or guide you in what you're supposed to do in terms of immediate objectives and grinding, and trying to get to your next objective without a guide can be really difficult and vague sometimes, imo it's probably the worst mainline Final Fantasy in terms of gameplay even if I really wished it wasn't the case. It did a LOT for future games but going back to it is... not great. If you really want to learn about the story it's probably better to just watch a video guide. BUT if you're hardcore and enjoy weird isoteric oldschool RPGs like that, go for it.
@@SirMoFoDans4 Look up the video on why ff2 isn't a bad game. You could make the argument the OG 80s version had shit levelling and is a failed experiment, but that doesn't extend to later ports. It's actually a decent game if you seriously don't go with the famicom version. In short: The levelling system isn't bad. You are given the option to hit yourself to train HP, but you seriously can just play the game as normal. It's just a boring option if you want to be "god" which you don't need to until last dungeon.

I've played FF1 through 14 and a few spin-offs and I have to say FF2 was by far the worst among them. To me, the leveling and progression was horrendous; the inconsistent party was annoying and prevented me from forming meaningful attachments as the player; the characters themselves barely had any backstory or development arc at all, and the story was rather basic and flavorless. That last one I don't mind, because it was 1988. But overall, and saying this as a childhood, diehard fan of the franchise... FF2 was awful. In my experience.
He sounds different due to the fact the voice lines from the old dissidia games and XII had to be compressed. There was so much dialogue that it had to be compressed to get it to fit on the disks.

Just beat FF2 for the first time recently. Makes me want a modern day remake of the game. Was a great story. So much better than the first game.

Either Bosch's voice is changing with age or they used a different kinda recording studio for NT, he sounds a lot different than usual (PSP).
