Some Tips if your viewing this in 2023:
If your extracting, its best to use programs like 7zip/win rar. Windows extract may cause issues.
You dont need to extract the rom out of its folder just ship of Harkinian.
If the gui is not there at the start, launch the soh application. It will ask if you want to use a rom, click yes. It should auto detect the rom if you put them in the same directory as he mentioned.
Give it a bit to detect files and should automatically take you to the game.

Hi, thank you so much for explaining, I got it to launch. But I wonder if any of you guys got a link to the controls? It's very difficult to try to get it to work without the original controls, since the "look around" button I found is not moving smoothly. Also is it possible to get it into full screen? I got PC with windows.
I remember playing through the whole thing with a friend in the summer of 1998 here in Norway, and then the Wind Walker, or what it was called, the one with the boat, a year or two after that. It was a lovely summer, and we could have the windows wide open, letting in a cool breeze. Just the intro music, with the horse running over the fields of Hyrule, was magical, and when I didn't play it I just had the N64 on, with the intro screen on, and fell asleep to the music.
Went from start to water temple in one sitting, and every single second of it was a blast. I got stuff to do, but I'll absolutely keep playing after, and do lord knows how many randomizer runs. Thanks!

I couldn't even begin to play this game on my emulator with the N64 type control setup. But now with free camera and all the other modern day enhancements...... game changer. It's so much more fun. Thank you!

Hiya! I'm adding some small corrections,
The port can be played completely vanilla hence why everything is under a checkbox, so even the pure vanilla hardcore player can enjoy SOH.
The Fixes menu, it's not to fix the "port issues" but vanilla games issues that were present :D
The "invetiables crashes" shouldn't happen except in super rare case, but most likely if you're not messing around too much / deep it should behave properly
The "IA" frame interpolation, have nothing to do with an IA, it's just a math equation that understand 3D axis (X, Y and Z coordinates) and interpolate these coordinate on a new frame, it has nothing to do with an IA or what you can see in "60FPS" AI video edits, it's also a method used in many TripleA games on some aspects

Careful with auto save on. There's a point in the water temple where you'll have a key but can open 1 of 2 doors and if you open the wrong door and save your whole file is screwed.
EDIT: I found out that it's actually just a myth. There's a key hiddin in the middle tower section down below.
You have no idea how it took me to get that key as a kid. I needed my friend to force me to re-do the whole temple in order, just to find it.
It’s a joke, meaning I know everyone probably knows how tricky it was to notice that!
This was a common issue in the water temple. It became a well known myth because, back when this game was new, players would frequently reset their save after encountering this step in the dungeon, believing the game to be soft-locked

I'd actually recommend binding the C buttons to modern face buttons, and using the L2/R2 buttons as the N64/GC B/A respectively. It works very well for almost every N64 game.

Man, when I was a kid I use to know how to do all this stuff, flash forward 18 years later, now I am 30 watching your video on how to do this! 😅 thank you for your walkthrough and help! I am currently able to play it and it looks amazing and feels incredibly smooth! 10/10 tutorial! You are the man. I will say however I downloaded 8.04 and with that, I just had to open the game (I already had the debug file downloaded) and by opening the game it asked me if I wanted to use the OOT debug 64 file to open the game, I said yes and it's worked for me. Hope this comment helped someone who might need the information! Enjoy guys, it's alot of fun of course!

If you're having any technical problems with your install of the port, you should definitely send a message in the official Harbour Masters Discord server. The majority of the time I'm not going to know the fix to your problem, as I haven't seen them before, and the Discord you downloaded the port from literally has all the developers in it, meaning you can get direct support from the people who put it together in the first place.

Love how fans make great game better. It’s more than a tribute or preservation.
I put my C-buttons on R3 (Up), RB (Down), X (Left), Y (Right) personally. And I put my slingshot on RB so I could use the right stick to aim. D-Pad I have set as an additional equipment panel and for ocarina usage. I did map the right stick to camera control as well, too.

My zip folder didn't include the OTR Gui file. I just downloaded Spock Charlie 7.0.2 today. Am I missing something?

For viewing in 2024, Free Camera is under settings if you click on Additional Camera settings.

great informative video a little confused what you meant at 7:22 by setting your display to a multiple of 20 fps
Whatever you set the frame interpolation to just has to be a multiple of 20 (40,60,80,100...). The original game was locked to 20 fps so choosing something outside of directly multiplying that frame rate can cause some issues.

it seems the solution to my problem and many others is just make sure you are using a zip file extractor program, the youtuber here is using winrar, for some reason if you extract the SOH folder without a program it wont detect roms correctly, and the debug version of OOT will also refuse to extract which i noticed was a lot of peoples problems.
I am having issue after issue getting this setup. Is there a compiled rom out there ready to go? All one would have to do is drop it in the PC folder on retropie and just play? Maybe my issue is windows 7. Not sure. I really want to try this.

I notice everything about how to set up ship assumes you have a PAL/European disc to work with and tells you everything you need to know after that point but there's not a single piece of advice anywhere about where in the world you can _find_ a PAL/European disc if you're in the USA. I've found _one_ on ebay and it's in the UK and it won't ship to the USA. It's basically looking like I'm going to have to wait until the devs work on compatibility with USA roms, which I saw somewhere that they planned to do that eventually

For some reason I can't get my controller to connect properly. I can get SoH to read my xbox controller and can map some buttons it appears, but it won't pick up joy stick axis directions. I calibrated the controller and works fine other places. Anyone else have this issue?
Yeah, doesn't work. Tried it with two different z64 files and the OTRGui window just closes.
gotten a couple of comments this week saying the same, try using an older install of SOH and see if that fixes it

I am having a trouble saving the game, whenever I save it will say "Game Saved" at the bottom of the screen but when i close the game and reopen it, it appears that my game was not saved. I have both autosave and was manually saving idk what is happening

4:28 C buttons to dpad makes no sense.. Need to be able to move with left thumb and hit c buttons mid movement with right thumb.
Is there a way to use a Gamecube controller? No matter what I do I can't seem to get the game to recognize my adapter. I have Zadig installed for my WiiU adapter and ever have the lossless adapter but nothing seems to work.
I play on a 4k monitor and the game opens very tiny, fully screen works but the F1 settings are so damn tiny I can't see what Im changing. How can I play it bigger?

@@broomer4415 yes i did actually. the newer versions of Harkinian don’t actually utilize that file in particular anymore and u only have to use the .exe file to set it up. It also wasn’t working for me because i didn’t have a ROM file of OOT compatible with Harkinian either and found one that eventually worked. If you need the name of the file i’ll look it back up for u jus lmk.
no where to get these so called roms, i use emulators on my phone but cant figure out how to get these types of specofioc roms, none of this makes any sense,
It’s looking for the European version of a debugged rom. Roms are found literally just by Google searching them. Debugs are GameCube versions that someone else has updated to work without tripping the anti piracy in the game basically these can be found if you simply dump your own rom. This can be done using software and a piece of hardware in some cases along with your own personal copy of the game purchased legally. There are many other ways of getting these roms by browsing the internet a little. I don’t want to blow up the websites spot so I won’t post them but believe me when I say they’re easy to find. It’s just a matter of making sure that your game is the right format. I think this emulator slash port needs the z64 extension. Some use .rz4 extensions. Depends on what you know how to work with or what emulator you’re using. I needed to get an online copy as my laptop has no disc drive and I’m not about to spend 100$ on something that can read my disc or cartridges. I’d rather just get what others have done for me. I’m not pirating if I’m taking a copy of the game that I already own. Might as well be making the copy myself. Good luck and happy hunting.
