Ok so, obviously the way Reiner described the "devil's" wasn't devil like, it was human like. That's why the mother looked shook when he heard Reiner talk about the "devils" as if they're just regular humans like them.

That scene when he was talking about his time back on Paradis was slightly different in the manga. He was actually looking back on those memories fondly and was a bit sarcastic in relating how evil the people on the island were. He even was suppressing his laughter when retelling the story of Sasha and the potato. But despite that his family still saw the story as horrifying. They were so brainwashed into thinking that the Eldians on Paradis were devils that even the most mundane of stories gets twisted in their heads to fit the narrative that they think of them. Reiner is neither stupid nor crazy. He's just traumatized. He's trying to play the part of being a good Marley citizen so that his family, Falco, and the rest don't have to go through what he did.

Just think what we, anyone of us would have done if we were under the oppression of an enemy nation that mistreated us for so long. 1800 years is a long time to live under the threat of the Titans. I'm not defending their actions, but they are understandable. They are afraid that those people, the Eldians might unite again and try to bring back the Eldian Empire. And that's not something that ANY nation of the entire world would accept. You just saw in the previous episode that the people of the Middle Eastern federation abhor the Eldians with a passion. And in this episode Udo tells us that the POWs that will return to their homeland will tell the horror stories of Titan warfare and bring about even greater hatred and fear against the Eldians. And the Eldians of Marley? Their hatred of the "Island devils" is also understandable and not out of brainwashing for the older ones. They were abandoned on the mainland to the mercy of their enemies, and they didn't have ANY allies. The entire world wanted to exterminate them. The only reason they survived was by becoming useful to Marley. Becoming weapons of war as well as cheap labor force ensured their survival. Marley at that time could have simply killed them all. Instead they ensured their survival as part of their nation, making sure that the rest of the world couldn't kill them simply out of spite or just to be sure that they wouldn't try anything. So, in a twisted way, the Eldians of Marley feel indebted to the Marleyans because, despite their obvious hatred and mistreatment, they still allowed them to survive. So, to them, its not the Marleyans that are the enemy. In their point of view, it is the "Island Devils" that are the enemy. If they are exterminated, then the Eldians of Marley would have proven their loyalty and will slowly but surely become accepted as Marleyans instead of Eldians. At least, that's what they hope for. And hope is an incredible motivator to a people that have nothing else to cling to.

And on top of that his family got shocked about Reiner saying such things that makes no sense, if the Paradis people are really the devil, things said that could make Marley government kill his family.
Also, all the shit Reiner was telling Falco on the train was to "wake him up". Imagine if Falco said the same thing he said to Reiner, but this time around someone who would actually report him for "suspicious actions against Marley's government". Reiner said those things in an attempt to scare him so nest time he would think twice before saying those kinds of things around someone again. Throughout the episode we see how dangerous it is for the Eldians to disagree with the things Marley says and we see moments of Reiner (now grown up and understanding the environment he lives in) trying to protect his teammates as best he can, trying to stop them from acting or say something that could doom them in the future (example, Reiner trying to scare Falco on the train and then interrupting Galliard when he was complaining about Marley/Tybur and Reiner knew they were actually being spied and tested by tha army's officers).
In order the devils Reiner is talking about are Sasha, Connie, Jean, Marco, and then Eren, Armin, and Mikasa are all the last one, “a fool who charged in and the chumps that followed him”

On patreon y'all are ahead of this well enough that you know already I'm sure, but the idea with the amount of time spent with the new cast I THINK is to break the habit of wanting to just hate the Marley side outright instead of seeing them as two groups of people caught up in a tragic conflict. Season 4 of AOT is an insanely good test to evaluate people's tendencies in terms of tribalism and hypocrisy. I'm curious where you guys are gonna land on that spectrum! :)
Truly, it's really something. You usually see it in your day-to-day life if you're an observant bystander, but reactions offer a decent insight into how much integrity a person has and why they merely subscribe to a hive mind or open thinking.
7:57 I really do think Ymir's reason for going back to them was well explained in the Season 2 Finale. She said she's the only one who understood Reiner and Bertholdt's situation, further showing how this show is trying to expand and make their viewers more open-minded and understand that the only reason why most of the audience is rooting for the Paradis Eldians (and the demise of Reiner, Bertholdt, and Annie) is because we saw their side of the story first (but of course, they have good characters too). This is why I love this season so much because Reiner's character is so fleshed out and you'll start understanding that there's no right or wrong side here, or at least this really reflects what's happening in the real world with war (how people fight because they have different goals or ideals). So I do hope you guys start seeing this grey area because I was honestly shocked to hear reactors say they want Reiner to die `(*>﹏

This show is something that’s incredible to go back and rewatch and then connect the dots that you missed. There are clues that hint at the end game of the show. Don’t let people try to bring up shit from previous episodes because those are things you’re still not supposed to understand. The appeal of this show is the fact that the whole thing is a mystery. The reason I enjoy watching reactions is to see how people put it together. I’m tired of reading comments of people trying to push them towards an answer that hasn’t been given yet.

But the reason Reiner's description of the people on Paradise island was shocking for his family was that he made it sound like just any other bunch of normal people which is opposed to the brainwashing of Marley which portrays them all as evil spawns of devils.

I think favoritism and biasness is preventing them from fully taking in this arc. I was like that in the beginning myself but I was always fascinated by the Titans and Marley people. So I came to really enjoy this one. Things in AoT aren't clear cut black and white and Good vs Evil.
It’s embarrassing because I never realized (until a friend pointed it out to me) that Marley didn’t know Paradis had the colossal because they didn’t know they had an injection. Before this they were under the impression that a random person was born with it
Your friend missed some details then. Even if they didn't expect an injection, there were plenty of titans to eat Bertholdt. They would just grab one and feed him. Also, Zeke literally says that there must be at least 2 titans (1 beside Eren) to be able to destroy the 32 ships they sent. Which implies they're thinking either Annie or Bertholdt's titans were stolen.

For every season, but primarily this one it's needed to look through multiple layers of a character to really get what they mean and understant their motives.
The amount of comments, laughs, questions (and then several attempts to answer) makes them lost the emotion of some key scenes. For example Reiner explaing how "devil" the people of the Island were, but actually he was saying good things about them showing how he is in conflict with the situation, and on top of that his family got shocked about Reiner saying such things that makes no sense, if the Paradis people are really the devil, things said that could make Marley government kill his family. And while this happened the reactors were talking about the armband color.

We don't know why they added that suicide scene tbh... it was out of the blue but yes it was just a random Eldian soldier committing suicide. Placement could've been different? Idk.
That soldier had some sort of PTSD. It was raining that day and when thunder struck, the sound reminded him the horrors of guns shooting, and the things that follow after it (dead comrades) which resulted in you know…
That guy is a soldier that was lined up when the Warriors returned to their district and the officer triggers his PTSD. You can see he has the same hair.

The families of warriors get to wear red armbands too, and warrior candidates don't get to wear red i'm pretty sure, Colt wears a yellow one and so do the kids.
Thats how literally army looks like. Went to other country killing millions innocent people, kid, women, elderly, etc. But when they go back home, suddenly they are heroes
The same thing between people in the marlyean, and the people inside the wall is they're all soldier but the difference between them is marlyean get to see their family's and love one but the wall people came back despair with corpse as their evidence.

It’s a damn shame how many people comment spoilers or even hint towards something you guys shouldn’t know/understand. This show is something that’s incredible to go back and rewatch and then connect the dots that you missed. There are clues that hint at the end game of the show. Don’t let people try to bring up shit from previous episodes because those are things you’re still not supposed to understand. The appeal of this show is the fact that the whole thing is a mystery. The reason I enjoy watching reactions is to see how people put it together. I’m tired of reading comments of people trying to push them towards an answer that hasn’t been given yet.

So, while I'm pretty sure I don't need to tell you guys since someone else might already have. But the reason Reiner's description of the people on Paradise island was shocking for his family was that he made it sound like just any other bunch of normal people which is opposed to the brainwashing of Marley which portrays them all as evil spawns of devils.

Reiner scolded Falco because if anyone other than Reiner overheard him complaining about inheriting a titan, his family would get shipped off.
Season 4 is incredible but it's even more amazing watching it a second time. There are sooo many details I missed during my first watch.

I think favoritism and biasness is preventing them from fully taking in this arc. I was like that in the beginning myself but I was always fascinated by the Titans and Marley people. So I came to really enjoy this one. Things in AoT aren't clear cut black and white and Good vs Evil.
It’s embarrassing because I never realized (until a friend pointed it out to me) that Marley didn’t know Paradis had the colossal because they didn’t know they had an injection. Before this they were under the impression that a random person was born with it
Your friend missed some details then. Even if they didn't expect an injection, there were plenty of titans to eat Bertholdt. They would just grab one and feed him. Also, Zeke literally says that there must be at least 2 titans (1 beside Eren) to be able to destroy the 32 ships they sent. Which implies they're thinking either Annie or Bertholdt's titans were stolen.
@@Triattt that's true! but they also didn't know that Paradis already knew how titans worked. No one from the Marley did, that's why their theory that they had at least two titans was just an assumption. (Correct me if I'm wrong.)
@@zavs350 It would always be an assumption because there were no survivors xD I'm not sure. They knew it was a possibility that Eren could access Grisha's memories, but other than that... Yeah, I don't think they did. Did Eren understand how Ymir got her powers back when she was arguing with Reiner and Bertholdt? And did the Warriors knew there was a survivor from the Royal family back in Paradis?

Why the volume of the episode is so low
During the family meal, you can see Gabi hesitate before saying Galliard saved her. She kept quiet about Falco shielding her first ^^

@@johanneseiche664 nah, I think from this episode they started to not really understand their true emotions, sham and sarcarsm specially reiner's. For every season, but primarily this one it's needed to look through multiple layers of a character to really get what they mean and understant their motives.
The author had apparently initially planned to have the Cart Titan be a middle-aged man before changing to Pieck.
Good decision, we now have one of the best waifu's in the series

The amount of comments, laughs, questions (and then several attempts to answer) makes them lost the emotion of some key scenes. For example Reiner explaing how "devil" the people of the Island were, but actually he was saying good things about them showing how he is in conflict with the situation, and on top of that his family got shocked about Reiner saying such things that makes no sense, if the Paradis people are really the devil, things said that could make Marley government kill his family. And while this happened the reactors were talking about the armband color.
Same as what happened in erwins final speech. Haha anyways whatever, we still watching their reactions. Even though the most greatest parts are being ignored. Peace.
yep, that's exactly what I feel too. That was probably one of the most important dialogues for this first part of the season.

That soldier had some sort of PTSD. It was raining that day and when thunder struck, the sound reminded him the horrors of guns shooting, and the things that follow after it (dead comrades) which resulted in you know…
That guy is a soldier that was lined up when the Warriors returned to their district and the officer triggers his PTSD. You can see he has the same hair.
I can't tell if this ED is the saddest (read: best) ED in AoT, or it's just because of all the shocking moments that happen and we get left cliffhanger-d with before it plays 😥.
I just love how crazy the S2 ED is when they drop huge reveals and shocks and cliffhangers on you then SLAM DEMONIC PIANO SONG IN ENGRISH
