If Apple goes for a 8 cores they should add 2 mid cores so that the performance isn’t to power hungry. Plus I think with tsmc 3nm design was rushed because of how new it was for tsmc to begin making it. I think next year will be the year Apple will take advantage of 3nm. Either way Apple needs to also add a vapor chamber for cooling or some other technology to allow the device to sustain better performance without reaching the limits of heat thus hindering performance and screen brightness. They have a lot of thinking after how the public is less satisfied and better competition is shrinking the gap.

Impressive gains on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 but in my opinion, Apple better be worried about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 which will have the new Oryon Nuvia cores. Take a look at the scores on the Snapdragon X Elite to give an idea on what to expect. Not sure what Apple can do at this point. The A18 specs are probably locked in at this point and I have a feeling that it will just be a small iteration of the A17. Also, Apple really needs to focus on GPU and cooling if they want IPhone to try to be a serious gaming phone. Also, the A19 chip due in 2025 is also probably at the point where any major change will result in significant delays.

The X Elite is actually outtdated.. 2 years behind schedule because it got delayed many times.
If you dig a little and compare the Gen 3 with X Elite benchmarks, it becomes glaringly obvious the ARM X4 cores and far better than Oryon.
That's not to say the X Extreme isn't competitive with absolute dogshit comparative efficiency of Intel and AMD, but all things considered, it is way behind the current best stock ARM designs.
The reason why Qualcomm released it is because they spent billions on acquiring Nuvia and developing the chip..so they'll try to cash in at least something from it.

There is no more 5 nm or 3nm since we switched to FINFET from planer transistor and that was since 28 nm an 22nm in few cases. In today’s scenario what 5nm or 3nm means is marketing. When they say 3nm They generally mean that the performance that they are achieving is equivalent to theoretical 3nm planer transistor.

  • @Epicgamer_Mac
    @Epicgamer_Mac 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Yes I am an Apple fan but I'm going to only state the facts here. The thing to remember is that the tests that were done on the 8 gen 3 were in optimal ideal conditions, on what will probably turn out to be the highest-performing Android phone using this chip (I'm talking about Xiaomi ofc). In reality, it was what they call a "freeze test", where the chassis of the phone was kept cool the whole time. With the iPhone in the same conditions, it scores nearly 8000. And with the Xiaomi in real-world conditions, it scores 6900-7000 compared to the iPhone's 7200-7400. Factor in the hardware+software optimizations that Apple is known for and I don't think anybody can truthfully say Apple is beat.
Now, as for graphics, it looks similar to last year I will admit, but we'll have to see when the gaming fps tests come out and both chips have gotten a couple of software updates in a month or two, I'd say. If it's anything like last year, the improved CPU of the iPhone will help and the lesser CPU of the Snapdragon will become a bottleneck, leading to higher and more consistent fps on the iPhone in those tests.
P.S. the neural engine of the iPhone is also 2x faster, which is a major advantage... I'd say Apple is gearing up to jump into the AI game soon

There is no problem with Apple . It's not all about the Chip . Anybody who knows anything about Apple , look at the bigger picture . Apples operating system is far superior than anything else, it works with all the other devices they make & more, the support network is absolutely superb, the infrastructure support worldwide is first class, you don't get this from android and Microsoft manufacturers etc .
other brands might try and outperform certain components but if they haven't got the rest of the system up to scratch then at the end of the day it really means nothing .
*this is just my opinion as it fits my needs . i used to be a Microsoft Windows person for over 30 years and change to Apple only 7 years ago. I wish I had done it a lot earlier I have no intentions of changing back.
At the end of the day everyone has their opinion and as long as it fits your needs then good for you 👍.

I thought Qualcomm poached some Apple engineers a short while back, but perhaps the biggest contribution to Qualcomm’s success is Tim Cook. Under his guidance innovation has slowed to a trickle as he is a bean counter focussed on short term share price whilst sacrificing long term market dominance. We have seen this many times in the past with Commodore Amiga, IBM and even Intel recently. Bean counters come in and sacrifice R&D (and therefore market lead) to boost margin (and therefore short term share price) and optimise their pay out.

I think it strange to say Apple is in trouble when their silicon still uses less power and their performance cores are still 2 generations ahead of any of the competition. It's cool that Qualcomm are upping their GPU game, but on the CPU side they increased the multicore score just by replacing efficiency cores with mid cores, which I'm pretty sure is going to cancel out most of the efficiency gains over the 8 gen 2. Additionally, more cores =/= faster in every case. On a phone, most individual loads are lightly threaded, and you also aren't running many apps at once, so additional cores aren't needed for that like they are on a device running iPadOS or macOS. Adding two extra performance cores would both drastically increase the physical size of the chip, increase the passive power draw, and essentially just turn it into an M series chip. While M series chips are very power efficient compared to other laptop and desktop silicon, they are less so *at base* than A series chips. It's important to bear in mind that A17 Pro may draw more power than A16 at its absolute peak, but realistically you're not going to be drawing that even when playing a AAA game, let alone most of the time you're using it, and A17 Pro is more power efficient overall.
I think it's telling that geekbench gives the 8 gen 2 a much much lower score than some other benchmarks would indicate. My hypothesis is that this is because the GPU architecture is designed specifically for mobile, so it doesn't perform as well in some of geekbench's tests, whereas the A17 Pro has a GPU which is meant to be scaled all the way up to compete with dedicated desktop GPUs.
In any case, games are still likely to run better on A17 Pro due to MetalFX Upscaling, the only real equivalent to which is DLSS, and that is only available on NVIDIA dedicated GPUs.

Don't get me wrong. The snapdragon is a formidable foe, but i think apple is more worried when nvidia will start creating arm chips for pc's which they announced they will.

So tired of hearing the "Apple should be worried" statements. Apple is not in trouble but rather Apple shouldn't slow down and keep pushing forward.

Honestly, customers buy Apple products for the ecosystem for the brand for the hardware for the software for the services. It’s a total package that’s the reason Apple has this many loyal customers. With 2.49 billion daily active customers 1.47 billion of them are iPhone users Apple is still the only brand worldwide to 150 million brand new users each year and that’s up from 130 million million in previous years

The secret here is that Qualcom bought Nuvia, a company created by 3 former Apple workers in the creation of Silicon Apple. There's no more. Qualcom has now appropriated the technology that Apple created and they do not use low-performance processors, they only use high-performance processors in their chips, but in the end Apple's wallet will make them get off the cloud. Furthermore, Qualcom lacks the key to Apple's success, which is its software. It doesn't matter if the Qualcom chip is more powerful if it runs on Android or Microsoft.

What do you mean by maybe even exceeded? It certainly has the only thing apple has got and that's cause you can only use one app at a time so they are more focused on it is the single core, and you said it yourself. The gpu performance of 8 gen3 is absolutely insane.

I had big hopes for the 3nm A17 pro. I was extremely disappointed. They deserve to be beat and surpassed by the competition.

Apple needs to work on their cooling system... Those fast chips are useless if they throttle

Good for them. I'll continue using my Snapdragon 855 phone from 2017, still works perfectly. Maybe I'll get a cheap new battery for $35.
