I grew up during the age of aids and remember how hysterical people were. The way parents acted towards children who had it was absolutely heartbreaking. Ryan White was one of them but there were children all over the country being treated similarly if not worse. I was a child still in the 80s so I got lucky. Had I been born just a few years earlier I would have been just starting to have sex when no one knew it was there until it was too late.

I remember when this scourge was going on. People were dying left and right.

      Same here.
My older sister Carol and I had our tonsils removed in 1983-1984, so this was a scary time for us because there were no blood tests and no treatments for HIV infection then if either of us were to need a blood transfusion then.
And Carol actually was in her teens during the early years of HIV/AIDS and dating this much-older guy named David -- he was in his 20s, so our mother was livid and had to get the local police after him.
I can't believe I actually went to the local Time Saver with him. I was lucky nothing had happened to me, but the what-ifs were definitely scary.
No, David is not Carol's husband. They broke up not long after our mother got the police after him for not only hiding his real age but for his criminal record.
It is a miracle neither Carol nor I is infected with HIV/AIDS.
She was 18 and I was 10 when her and her husband Richie's first child and first son William was born. Two years later, their second child and first daughter Courtney was born. A year later, their third child and second son Cory was born. And a year later, their fourth child and second daughter Dorothy was born and Carol had a tubal ligation done so there are no more additional children.

RIP Amar. You could tell that he was having trouble breathing, that poor baby. Pneumocystis is a monster to this day for AIDS patients without access to antiretrovirals and pentamidine. HIV truly is evil, and I am so grateful that we have been able to turn this into a treatable chronic health condition.

Fascinating , but so very tragic. I've read about the first children born with AIDS , were born in the late 70s.

I wouldn’t wish it on anybody but it’s especially hard to watch kids suffer with it, they never had a chance and don’t even know why, so sad. ✌️🇺🇸
