I am amazed at how many people can't grasp the concept of "billboard chart topping" and keep complaining about songs like stairway to heaven and bohemian rhapsody that never topped the charts

Can't believe some people say The Beatles are overrated...They changed the world of music so much and influenced tons of musicians. Of course there were many other bands similar to them back in the 50s, 60s and 70s but none of them had the courage to experiment like they did.

I am always going to love listening to American Pie from 1970 and then following it with Shake Me Down from CTE made in 2011. Doesn't matter when, it only matters on the sound. I have to say The Rolling Stones were more focused on psycho babble and trying to make it sound good with stuff they heard while with people they thought were friends. +V4ampp Because "Pop" isn't a genre on its own. It's just an abbreviation of "popular". Although I have my second thoughts on Hey Jude being on number one, it's more of a rock/soft rock song than any other genre.

Well, we knew that Elvis and the Beatles had to be pretty high on the list; it's hard to overcome their power and influence on rock music. Never heard of Seven Nation Army, so sue me. I was surprised by no Stairway to Heaven, but its absence has been explained. Funny how so many of these WatchMojo lists have to be prefaced by their qualifications to be properly understood.

+V4ampp Because "Pop" isn't a genre on its own. It's just an abbreviation of "popular". Although I have my second thoughts on Hey Jude being on number one, it's more of a rock/soft rock song than any other genre.

+Max Maltha I would actually argue that Pop has become it's own genre in the 70s with ABBA and later on Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush and others, but Hey Jude definitely qualifies as a Rock ballad.
