EDIT: It's a known glitch caused by the Peccatula spaghetticodae that will be/was fixed with the 14th of November 2024 update. I'm not doing that dungeon a third time to "experience the right way of playing that ending", I still have Canto 6 to finish and then the Intervallos + Canto 7 to "enjoy TM". First off, I'm a recent player (started around the end of October 2024), so I'm mostly suffering through the game right now and finished Canto 5. A guy on a Limbus/Project Moon discord server I'm on didn't believe me when I described how I just directly targetted Ahab and the game just started the cutscene. I redid the dungeon to record and share screen with him on discord. But OBS didn't capture my voice, that's the other guy voice that you can hear actually. If you want to compare with the original way of ending this fight, check this video: th-cam.com/video/L2ZGUL-Fyj8/w-d-xo.html You have to "try" to target Ahab but the chain doesn't lock on it, with Dante trying to convince Ishmael to not get revenge. After a few tries, a new target appeared in the background that you had to select and then the game continued.
@@MeowsamuraiThe point of the Canto V ending is that Ishmael chooses her own destiny, ending the Canto basically saying “If you stop showing me a path I like, I’m leaving”. She’s more independent, but chooses to follow the path Dante gives her. This new ending accentuates that freedom, that independence, by making her change the target of her attack by herself, without Dante’s commands, which works better imo
@@victorvirgili4447 its not so different of canto 7 though, dante actions and words influenced sancho and showed her that the dream never ended, like here that dante told ishmael that her path was never an road end and even showing ishmael that theres another way, even without killing ahab hence the heart target
I also like how it makes this section more streamlined. I remember felling frustrated and panicking that the game froze after finishing what was for me a difficult boss fight, when I kept targeting Ahab but nothing happened. Now we go directly to the cutscene and the twist of Ishmael deciding to kill the whale instead of Ahab feels more impactful without the 5 seconds foreshadowing.
Honestly instead of this they couldve kept the dante not being able to select Ahab and then once the heart option opens up it automatically selects as if ishmael made the choice instead
im a new player too and just started one month ago. i have completed canto 7 and rr4 now and i can confidently say that i had to specifically target the heart, after a while i didn't even have the option to target ahab anymore, if i tried to do so there would only be a yellow text hinting that you should aim for the heart instead of ahab.
Check the new update notice. This was indeed a bug and will be fixed in the next scheduled update on Thursday. Thank you for bringing attention to this issue, would suck for this bug to go unnoticed by PM.
At this point, it would be better to just start the ending cutscene right after Ishmael repels Ahab's harpoon and not bother with the pseudo gameplay choice.
If this was intended, it would have been in the patchnotes... Something about the Canto 7 release just caused a bug, likely related to the superbia scene.
When I did it a few weeks ago I saw the heart option, but kept doing ahab because I thought it was funny. The game got so pissed it started zooming in on the heart until I chose it
That's the thing. I'm a new player and finished Canto 5 for the first time on the 7th of November 2024. I was told that you couldn't originally "lock" the chain on Ahab. You had to try and fail a few times, then the heart in the background appeared and then you could lock the chain on it. That's not what happened for me, I could immediatly lock on Ahab and the game still proceeded as if I correctly targeted the heart. At this point, why not just directly start that cutscene after Ishmael parries Ahab's weapon?
@@Haraiinekoi did this a couple of days ago and can confirm it let me target ahab. it was odd bc i remember watching a youtube video of the canto where it corrected to the heart.. thought it was intentional lol
I honestly liked the older one better. Skowly realizing you're not supposed to kill her and making the conscious choice to change target felt like it really completed ishmael's story. Kinda like making you hit the cathy button in canto 6. I like what little moments you get where you can interact with the story directly like that.
@@jamesa.7549 yeah, it feels like it's incomplete without the self realization of the player that to not become like ahab, one must target the heart. it feels like the story is a bit wrong with that new update
@@yakeru3356 Maybe because it's not the player's choice but hers? Or maybe there are lore implications to giving your orders to the sinners, hence why Faust said "we're not gonna have control over our bodies most of the time" in the prologue.
@@shunderstock8080Yeah, that’s what I felt. It’s also more accurate to the cutscene, since Ishmael is literally choosing her own path here (at least, the path of her harpoon)

like how this version makes that the decision to not kill ahab is less of a dante decision and more of ishamel decision
I hate it.
She willingly decided to trust Dante and named them her compass, so what is the point now, if Dante is not showing her direction?

Pretty sure this isn't intended, wasn't mentioned in the patch notes.

When I did it, I never targeted her. I kinda just sat there while Dante yapped in the corner. Then, the option to attack the heart slowly opened up.
I didn't even notice Dante yapping

I just looked at the announcement and updated this video's title and description
I just wish in the original you could instantly target the heart early if you figured it out.

Major Bug due to Canto 7

You just have to wait a bit for the heart to be targetable
