Hello, I have a difficult question and trying to find help with an answer :( It’s a long story, but all of last year I was unemployed and did not file taxes because I did not owe anything; I made zero income. I was unemployed because I had a joint sponsor at the time and I decided to move abroad to live with my husband to wait out the immigration process together. Last minute, my joint sponsor bailed, and I had to come back to the states to find a job. I found a nursing job with a good income, but my contract doesn’t start for another 3 months. We are coming up to the 1 year mark for our immigration case and we could be passed to NVC any moment now.. My question is: will it be a problem that I did not file taxes last year even though I am slated to begin a good paying job soon? Also, in the case that we get pushed to the NVC stage soon, is my offer letter from my place of employment enough to show as proof that I can support my husband, or do I need to be working for a certain period of time? I am afraid all this will delay or deny our case and I’m so scared. Please help, thank you!

Take in what you have and hope for the best. Remember you do not have to answer any questions that you are not asked or give any documents that you are not asked for. If you are asked, then you have to tell the truth.

I have successfully navigated this with my clients. They may ask you to get a new joint sponsor or to show proof of assets.
