How to Create a Stained Glass Window Effect (Illustrator & Photoshop Tutorial)

Follow along with this tutorial to learn how to create a stylized illustration with the appearance of a stained glass window, where the artwork is segmented into several coloured shapes. I'll first show you how to create the simplified illustration style by using Illustrator's shape tools to draw a rose graphic. My path finder tool is ignoring so many of my lines and making these "frankenshapes." Doesn't matter how many times I've retried, I can not select individual shapes after dividing. I have to click on the path and it changes the colour of multiple spaces at random it seems like. I want to do do this so bad and expiriment with it but i simply can not get it to work. Please help.
