    You made this so simple to understand. I was really confused about the tracing paper technique and after watching your video, your sharpie technique makes so much more sense. Thank you for making these videos.

    Thanks for the video! I'm an illustrator and I have a very crafty family member who's been getting into stained glass. So I wanted to make some patterns for her as a gift. But I wasn't sure what things would be best for stained glass patterns. This helped!

    very cool, forget about tracing paper, I love your method. I'm going to try this with card stock for sure. (and watch this a few more times also) I wish there was a LOVE button...I guess LIKE will have to do.

    There's a marker called Inkzall by Milwaukee that's pretty robust on the grinder, especially if you let it sit for a couple minutes before grinding. I got them at home depot. I also heard you can streak a line of chapstick over your marker line to waterproof it but im not sure it made much difference.

    Perhaps you can do a video on Stained Glass Plating. You have not mentioned that you use this technique (or I just haven't found it). Your videos have been extremely helpful and well done! Thank you.

    I’m so glad you talked about just using a sharpie to trace your patterns on to the glass. I see so many tutorials showing the glue patterns to the glass method and I really think that for a beginner this is much harder than tracing around the glass. It’s easier to cut and see the glass. I also see you didn’t use patterns shears and I wonder how you make allowance for the thickness of the foil so your panel doesn’t “grow.” Are you cutting on both sides of the line when you cut with the exacto knife? Thanks for the tip about Clip Studio too. I’ve been using Procreate and I’m not really happy with it.

    Wonderful video, it was very helpful. I was wondering if you color arrangement is based on any criteria or just what you think looks best.

    I have a question about design, to account for the foil and solder - how thick do you make your lines on your designs, or does it matter? I have a design that will ultimately form an Octagon with a 1x2 inch rectangle in the middle of it. Then the sides will accommodate a 2 in block made up of a 1/2 in rectangle, a 1 in square and another 1/2 in rectangle - forming a kind of U, that will attached to each of the 8 sides of the octagon. So in determining the size of the sides of the octagon, do I have to account for the foil and solder between the rectangles and squares? Or am I just over thinking this?

    Hello Rachel, thank you for your video. Could you answer a few practical questions? How thick do you make your digital line? And when you cut out the pattern are you cutting the line completely out?

    • @Mr.StainedGlass
      @Mr.StainedGlass ปีที่แล้ว

      You can normally do the line a couple pixels wide, and, the pattern shears will remove the necessary amount automatically. So just be sure to purchase the correct tool

      @@Mr.StainedGlass in the UK we're taught to trace straight onto the glass from the original pattern. We don't cut out our pattern. So, happily one less tool to buy i.e. (pattern scissors:) ) Would 4pixels be ok? Ive estimated that when printed it's around 2mm wide and have thought that would be ok?

    • @sunbearglasscraft8065
      @sunbearglasscraft8065  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use a program called rapid resizer! I cover it in my video "5 things I can't live without", but it's basically a subscription based website that lets you resize and even color in your patterns to calculate how much glass you'll need. I pay for the cheapest option, which is $12 every 3 months :)

    • @Mr.StainedGlass
      @Mr.StainedGlass ปีที่แล้ว

      You can do it by hand, normally purchasing a roll of butcher paper can be very handy to make larger patterns. If you are doing a symmetrical pattern, you can draw one half then fold it in half and traxe the other half.

    When cutting your pattern do you cut off the black line? When I don't cut off the black line sometimes it turns out amazing and others it sucks.

    • @Mr.StainedGlass
      @Mr.StainedGlass ปีที่แล้ว

      You should get pattern shears to cut the line, it will remove a small amount of paper to make room between each piece.

    Just an FYI, no one can restrict your ability to sell something that YOU have made using a pattern that you purchased from them. It's not even remotely enforceable nor legal.

      True, but I personally would avoid unless significant changes were made just because if the original artist didn’t intend for it to be used commercially, I would want to respect that.
