I saw interviews done by the Asian Boss channel right after the martial law was repealed, and even the young guy who said he wasn't really into politics was way more knowledgeable than so many people here. I have to give it to the SK people and the government. While there are many things that need to change (and this is for most governments around the world), they really fought for their independence and the continuation of it.
A rather divided society. We even see supporters of Yoon and the conservatives rallying, waving both US and RoK flags. Liberals, leftists and workers, now led by younger people have placards, the RoK flag, effigies, banners and light-sticks where they all chant for change and Yoon’s resignation.
From Philippines here, while my country’s constitution may have defined impeachment grounds explicitly, it hasn’t stopped so many serving public officials from betraying public trust on a daily basis 😅
And the midterm elections too. An ongoing spat between Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Sara Duterte-Carpio over a WIDE VARIETY of issues. And the interference of the House Speaker and presidential cousin Martin Romualdez 😢😢😢😢

A constitution is just a piece of paper. The Soviet Union's constitution was roughly similar to the US constitution. On paper the Soviets had free speech. Again, just a piece of paper. In the US, the post civil war amendments meant to protect former slaves were almost exclusively used to expand the power of business interests. What you see that really matters is power and the distribution of power in a society. So what institutions exist, who they represent and their power is what matters the most.

For ILLEGALLY declaring martial law, there are rules about when the President can declare it without it being counted as treason, he did not meet those requirements. His actions could have installed himself as a dictator, which cannot be treated lightly.
