Johnathon Thurstan of the North Queensland Cowboys Rugby League team kicks like that as well and I never get sick of seeing it happen. Carter's definitely still has one of the best kicks in the Super 14's and this proves why.

This bloke is one of the greatest rugby players of his generation kicking from a postion that would be outside the field of play on an American field, which is less than 50m wide. The equivalent of this in seppo footy is the quarterback kicking the goal from the first row of seating. If that's routine then I might start watching a bit more NFL.
it would be impossible to reverse curve, like that one, but it is definately possible to curve the ball regularly. look up conversions of hasem el masri, he does it every single time
Agreed! Soccer is way down the 'Don't bother watching' list of sports along with synchronise swimming. You don't need to be a super great athlete to be a soccer player, just need to have super bad acting skills. The conversion was crazy

Yeah, he just aimed it wide and punched it low - You'll see he just 'stabs' at it in order to not give it too much loft. There is no 'curve' put on this.. just letting the wind do its work. Good kick alright - Takes a lot of experience to know how to kick in wind like that.

Had nothing to do with the wind. He lined up the ball off centre and kicked accross it to put an irregular spin on it, making it bend in the opposite way than it normaly does. Because of the side of the posts he was on it made it an easier angle. People don't do it all the time because it is very hard to be consistent with it.
some people have said this is a fluke, but he definitly meant to do this. sounds boastful, but i've done similar kicks myself. ok to do it in match situations takes real talent and lots of practice, but its not rocket science. you just need to get an idea of the strength of the wind and its direction. this is not hard to do, and people usually double check by tossing a few blades of grass in the air. a strong, constant wind can even make it easier as the wind is then more predictable.
The wind apparently helped it, even though when the touchies ut the flags up, they dont wave. Must have been a big gust of wind, then it died !! LOL he does that sorta thing all the time

It didn't curl, It was a horizontal wind and he placed it perfectly so that the wind brought it back in which is more skillful than curling it...

@DaSONGY union balls are slightly different to league balls. league balls curve with the wind. union balls normally don't.
That is up there with the Hazem El Masri one from a couple of years ago (same sort of thing).
