My biggest gripe with the movie was when Chad clocked the killer in the face twice with that candlestick and they just kept it moving. Nah sorry, Chad is easily 180 lbs of muscle, whoever was under that mask would be concussed at the least, unconscious most likely. I know they do it in all the movies so it's not a big deal but it was just so egrious this time cuz im pretty sure he's the biggest guy we've ever had fight Ghostface and get a hit in.
Huge scream fan here, I need more time to stew on it to finalize my opinion but my initial reaction is that it was the weakest installment of the movies. That's not to say it was bad - i liked it a lot, but i enjoyed the first 4 movies more. There are a LOT of things i love about the film, but i also didn't feel at all attached to (most of) the new cast, save for the sister, mindy, and jack quaid's character. For a movie that's all about passing the torch onto a new generation, it spent a surprisingly little amount of time with the majority of that new generation. There just wasn't enough scenes with most of them and the scenes they were in didn't last long enough for me to soak them in enough. Same goes for our new sidney (aka sidney 3.0) - she just didn't do it for me. Maybe I'll like her more in a hypothetical scream 6, but here she's... fine, but not magnetic like neve's sidney was in the first 3 screams. I did love the extra goriness in the kills, killer reveals are just as scenery chewing as ever, if not even more so (this is a good thing), and that one kill in the house had the best suspense build up I've seen in a loooong time. Solid 7.5/10, but for me - the other 4 are unfortunately all 8s and 9s. Yes... even scream 3 (though that one's just barely an 8).
Comment for the scene John talks about, That broad daylight kill was one of the best just because of the setting it was in. Being in broad daylight and extremely public, made it extremely scary.
Okay you say you like the first one, and your gripes with the new one is the disbeliefs in it,which every movie has, the scene with tatum was a disbelief and no way a garage can kill you and hold you in air without breaking, and my friend don, t notice I, m gone who I came to the party with, you nip picking cause you don’t like the franchise, which is okay, but nip picking a movie, just ludicrous, every movie has disbeliefs.
Yeah he's like not a fan at all so his opinion is not useful here at all. Same with him and his Matrix review (and this movie is a lot better than that btw)
Maybe I’ll change my mind upon a rewatch, but I at no point thought the movie was too meta. Actually, having sat down and rewatched the franchise this week, I thought the meta nature of this one was consistent with the others. After all, isn’t the whole point of the Scream franchise is to serve as a self-parody of the horror genre and those that love it. I mean they literally lay out the rules of each movie within each movie based on the movies that have been made before. They also have a horror franchise that serves as a Scream stand-in within the world of Scream. The only way I think it could’ve gotten more meta was if they chose to call the Stab franchise “Scream” as that would have made it abundantly clear to anyone watching that Wes Craven was talking about them(that is if somehow they were in doubt).
It's pretty funny because they tell you multiple times throughout the movie that it's a requel, it is literally a rehashed version of the 1st movie just with new characters and actual consequences. Amber and Richie were obsessed fans of Stab that let it get to their head just like what happened with Billy and Stu. Tara and Mindy are easily the best new characters added, I expect Tara to fill the role of Sydney in a way and Mindy to fill the role of Randy.
buddy this movie sets up the parameters of people surviving brutal attacks. this is why people are getting mad at you because you clearly don’t know a thing about the franchise and continue to crap on it.
I agree with your initial take coming out of the theaters. They are asking us to suspend disbelief far too much with this one. It was God awful. Half of the setups for deaths are as idiotic as it gets. No chance that people with half a brain would have made the decisions made by so many characters in this movie. I get that people need to die in a slasher, but ATLEAST make it make sense why they are doing the things they do. Putting a witty line or joke before someone makes an unreasonable decision doesn't suddenly make it less ridiculous. I was very disappointed 😞

Maybe make it where it’s the older sister who’s becoming her father. Or make it the younger sister who wants to connect with her real dad. Or make it the mom of the daughters who blame them for making the father leave. Idk… ANYTHING Woulda been better than what it was lol
I had a good time, but the killers motive felt less personal and kind of goofy compared to most of the other films.
I thought this movie was not very good at all, very predictable, major plotholes I love the original scream and really wanted to love this
I feel the twins got off too easily and at the very least one of them should have been attacked more viciously. Other than that I really loved seeing Ghostface again, especially with just how brutal they were with those killings. Gonna watch this as many times as I can in Dolby.
I had fun watching Scream, now all I want is for Hollywood to not make any more sequels to these 80s and 90s horror classics. Its always best to let "sleeping dogs" do what they do lol.
It was fun until Sidney came back, the whole third act was shit.
It was fun until Dewey died. I'm like fuck that Scream 4 is better.
@@shwonsh i didn't mind him dying. I'm rather sick of the same people always surviving. But after his death, it just got so dumb. Why would they stop for an inhaler? Just get out of dodge and get one At the Walgreens in that town.
But they cancel the party just to get an inhaler and all the kids didn't find that odd. That last act was so bad.
@@scottaudetat3090 Well that i guess is my problem. I like Dewey more than most people do and the fact he's the only male in all of the movies, but let's just kill all of the white dudes and have a bunch of woman only. The only guy that lived was the black jock who got attacked and that was it..like whatever.
@@scottaudetat3090 Sam asked Tara if she could make it without her inhaler. Tara said she needed it. That's why they stopped, and couldn't just leave. I don't know about the Walgreens, but as for the party, they DID tell everyone the killer is targeting the house.
@@christopherbrown5023 Im aware, but Sam should've told her to just relax and wait for the next town.
I loved the movie but the weakness of the film. Is the killer motive
That’s the strongest part of the film.
i enjoyed it im a big fan of scream but like you said there are moments of disbelief in this franchise like in this i couldn't believe that there was only one cop at the hospital along with the attacked girl (where was everybody else????
I've seen a lot of it will be like *why the hell is the hospital empty*, and I thought the same thing on my first viewing, but on my second I remembered it's established earlier on that Judy moves her to a private floor of the hospital. That's why it's empty aside from her.
I have not seen Scream 5 yet but let me guess ...was the hospital poorly lit and very under staffed??
@@jcaashby3 No it was perfectly lit and very well staffed... Until a character is put on a private floor (for their own protection, of course 🙄) and then Ghostface shuts the lights off. 🤷♂️
@@jcaashby3 So like... When it matters... Yeah, you right. xD
@@NeelTheSphynx Right lol!
I just watched Scream 4 for the first time and at the end in the hospital noted how freaking dark and understaffed that hospital was. Not the first horror movie like this...Halloween 2 comes to mind.
I loved it
My biggest gripe with the movie was when Chad clocked the killer in the face twice with that candlestick and they just kept it moving. Nah sorry, Chad is easily 180 lbs of muscle, whoever was under that mask would be concussed at the least, unconscious most likely.
I know they do it in all the movies so it's not a big deal but it was just so egrious this time cuz im pretty sure he's the biggest guy we've ever had fight Ghostface and get a hit in.
all could have been avoided if Stab1-7 had the 'don't try this at home' warning
Comment for the scene John talks about,
That broad daylight kill was one of the best just because of the setting it was in.
John, please do a spoiler review. Would love to hear your additional thoughts. Thanks!
There was great humor? I watched a different movie
I had the same reaction for the kill he discusses, but I got over it in 2 seconds when I reminded myself it’s a movie.
buddy this movie sets up the parameters of people surviving brutal attacks. this is why people are getting mad at you because you clearly don’t know a thing about the franchise and continue to crap on it.
I like the movie. I even like the killers. What I didn’t like is their wack letdown of a motive.
No different than the other scream movies none of them had great motives they were just crazy people.
🎭🗡 wat da HECATÉ!?
It was borderline parody
@@alexmaverick6647 Being meta is one thing, but you can over do it. This movie was obnoxiously meta.
He didn’t like scream but like peacemaker I would say peacemaker is more meta than scream is!
I meant pleasantly not plenty oops
I was actually excited about a non Wes Craven directed Scream film. I love Wes and he’s a genius but I wanted to see what a new creative team could do with the property. Even though I really enjoyed Scream 2022, I was disappointed because they didn’t do anything different. They just did what Wes would’ve done.
I could easily tell Wes Craven was missing in this movie. I also was pretty disappointed at the entire third act .
These actors were god awful in this movie, I truly feel these people who love this movie or like it are blinded by the gore, kills and how great ghostface was, this movie was bad
@10:33 lol!
It was a good time, I laughed several times. It’s more flawed than anything though… unfortunately.
Was hoping it was good, but man sadly didn’t enjoy this film
The story was good but ruined with a weak terrible ending.
The entire third act was awful. I could not believe they wrote it that way
This was one of the most boring and generic ass films I’ve ever seen in my life. Wow
🤡
I can see how if you’ve only watched three movies ever and the other two were The Dark Knight and Pulp Fiction how you would have that opinion.
Movie kinda sucked honestly. It was so over hyped.
So over-hyped by who? Besides the early reactions, I haven't really heard anyone talking much, about this film. It's not like awareness of it was everywhere, and people wouldn't shut up about it. Advance tickets weren't exactly a hot seller, to my knowledge. So how was the film over-hyped? It wasn't.
@@christopherbrown5023 bro every early review “this is the best since the original”. Every early review raved about this movie. Yes it was over hyped. It’s the 4th best in the franchise.
I felt this was the Wish version of the original. The 3rd act monlogue by the killers was the poor version of Billy and Stu's monologs of the original. 5cream is my 2nd favorite sequel. My favorite will always be the original followed by Scream 2.
It's to piss fans like you off
@@ghostface9369 it didnt piss me off, it was more like meh. They didnt do anythin new, it was more like copy and paste jus with some decent kills. 🤷 the cast was poor imitations of the original aside for the legacy characters. I felt like Richie and Amber were trying to do there best impersonations of Billy & Stu from the original esp. w/ there 3rd act monlogue
Thanks for spoiling the number of killers, j@ck@ss.

Sorry but Scream 2 is still a better movie.
Eh, no but it’s a damn good movie!
Dude Mrs Loomis is a better killer than Amber and Richie, and Randy's death scene is better than Dewey's forced death.

scream 1 to 4 are classic masterpiece. This new one was a trainwreck. Poorly written, terribly directed, bad acting and no set pieces. Very cheap, few kills and bad characters. too much meta commentary and it lacks all the magic of the previous movies. The fake CGI knife was terrible the movie wasn't gory or brutal at all. They killed off two amazing characters in such an anti eroic way they Shit on the legacy of the franchise.
Terrible take. This is easily better than 3 at the very least.
@@captainmarvelous7678 nope 3 was more focused around comedy but it wasn't as silly as this one. It still had incredibile direction, great set pieces, iconic acting, smart meta elements and more action.
