- (ガンダム) Gundam's Dark History (黒歴史) is a legacy spanning nearly 41 years in the real world, and over 10,000 years, perhaps more, in the Gundam universe itself.
This is my transformative edit where I create an artistic narrative recollects 40 years of Gundam's history. This is my newest tribute to my favorite scene from one of my favorite shows of all time, Turn A Gundam ( ∀ ターンエー ガンダム), updating what was an incredible 20th anniversary scene into one more appropriate for the 40+ years.

Maybe you can answer something for me I've always found it curious how are they able to record all this new types don't exist in the after colony era And I'm pretty sure it recorded gundam gundam C destiny series or gundam double-O dumb double-O so how would it record these in this correct century
The unicorn gundam possess some limited time travel availability so did they use that to view alternate timelines or try to correct their own history cause it would explain why in gundam X A new type has never been heard of and heard of until the end of the world & errased the idea of new types

Why is it showing images from Age, 00, IBO, G-Gundam, and Seed???Those Five Gundam franchises are all entirely different universes from the universal century timeline they have nothing at all to do with one another first off and they don't even take place in the Universal Century or Dark History timelines as they are their own stand alone franchises. There is zero reason to include them.
When that song started in the actual Turn A show, it was the most chilling moment in the entire series... because people had to live through all that in order to record it for them to watch.

No, Turn A is only canon to UC, the images of other Gundam animes are just easter eggs, for example there's no way After War X could also happen in the same timeline as Gundam Fighters
@@wingsofwinter2600 they’re not Easter eggs. All of the different gundam shows fall in the same universe, just different timelines. It’s how Turn X was able to learning the shining finger using its own nanites.

-The order of the Black History (we don't know how or if AGE and Iron Blooded Orphans fit in, but I'd definitely count the latter as possibly the timeline that leads to Correct Century. We also don't know if Anno Domini is the same as 00's Anno Domini).
I do have personal theories about how it all fits.
Unfortunately, I had to leave out RG since the final placement of it has yet to be determined. Sunrise and Tomino both say different things on the matter for now, and I am waiting for the final films to finish before deciding.

Turn A Gundam is dark for admitting that humanity has never learned from their past mistakes.
It shows that history repeats itself, and yet the ending shows optimism that maybe we still can learn from our mistakes afterall? That's why Loran wins.
Or maybe Turn A just activates every ten millennia or so. We actually don't know if mankind achieved peace at all. We just know that Turn A resets everything after a certain period of time.

Weird how Turn A tries to pool all these different Gundam verses together (at least up till 2000) and then we get Reconguista which is set even further than that
I liked the idea of G reco being a bridge, but Tomino sees it differently, so I made this with that in mind.
Maybe his new films will make it more clear. I saw the first one at NYC and it was interesting.
@@MechaSalesman If you don't mind can you give details on what was different. I actually thought G Reco was a fun watch the first time around but the subs were pretty bad...
I say that Turn A is a dimensional nexus where all the Gundam multiverse can be view and, possible, visited. It can't be all the timelines combined because Earth in CC does not look anywhere near as ravaged the Earth in Gundam X.
I think it is ultimately up to the viewer what they believe the timeline mechanics of eras of Gundam to be, but in the end, it is all a tragic history of mankind repeating its mistakes to be witnessed and learned from.

I love this. Considering the Dark History covers everything, it's brilliant to include and consider all series past Turn A (1996) as well.
G Reco's after Turn A right? Cuz Raraiya and her G-Lucifer seem to have a connection to the moon too. Even the BEYOND short associates the G-Lucifer with the Turn A
Depends on who you ask. Production staff thought G Reco was before, but then Tomino said it came after... but only after the show finished. Onscreen evidence can point in either direction.
My assumption, however, is that Tomino's word will be honored because of the films he's making, so I did not place G Reco in this video deliberately.

Overall, I agree, but at the same time, I feel that 00 is out of place in the Dark History, and I don't recall the Dark History mentioning extraterrestrial life of any kind.
@@Christopher0184 00 is very hard to fit in due to the aliens of understanding. Im sure those assimilated are no longer considered human and someone more creative than me will find a way to include aliens leaving. Tangentially related, if you love 00 there's supposedly a drama that takes place after the movie IIRC. You can find character designs of Graham as a new Meister along with another Tiera clone.

@@MechaSalesman Yeah, I have all(?) 5 of the soundtrack albums - series, movies and concert. Turn A is my favorite Gundam Series. Aside from Thunderbolt, it's the tightest integration between the show and the music, and that Gentleman worked with her on Cowboy Bebop.

I'd like that. A view into Dark History would be nice... Sort of a prequel to Turn A; how it got stuck inside the White Doll and what happened in its battle with Turn X.

if all franchises are connected in some chaotic chronology, then 00 would have to be last due to the introduction of Aliens in the movie.
actually, Turn A is the first one to introduce Alien into Gundam franchise, though not as explicit and clearly visible as 00 in form of Turn X since no one knows who and for what purpose it was built originally.

Dark History is basically the Attack on Titan ending, humanity has repeat the same mistake of war and hatred again and again.

あのハゲ自身の展示会となれば、あの人が思う設定がくるはずだから絶対正しいとはできないと思うぞ！実際に皆で好きなように歴史を作ってくれとも言ってますし！！

Setsuna and his Gundam 00 crews wasted their efforts after all but at least they made it out of the solar systems. GUNDAM could use the sequel spin-off of "Dune" nature to explain what happened to other humans after Turn A Gundam's Dark History.
Judau also was on a space colony converted into a deep space "Ark", it was part of a Victory Gundam sidestory manga.

This makes me re think Gundam as a whole like in my opinion I feel they're all in seperate universes and art part of a black hole I think they call Black History or Dark History except for UC which is the main timeline of Gundam and I just came to this after watching the 40th Beyond video and it shows series like Zeta, Wing, Iron blooded Orphans, Gundam Unicorn, The Origin, 00 and G-Reco which takes place after Turn A Gundam as it seems so like, it's so confusing to me though I just think of that way and all the relics they found in Correct Century Turn A was from the Universal Century which explains the many many variants of 0079 or 0087 mobile suits like the Borjarnon aka the Zaku II or mobile bases like the Gallop and Weapons like the Hyper Hammer from the RX-78-2 Gundam, and what the light of life chronicle video shows and tells is that Lalah says to Amuro who's a ghost now along with Lalah as a result of the events that happened in UC She says the century that meets it's end is the Universal Century by the Moonlight Butterfly and resets humanity creating the Correct Century. I feel like series like SEED, 00, Iron blooded orphans, AGE, G Gundam, Gundam X, Gundam Wing are in their own universes while Universal Century is the main Gundam Timeline in which humanity learns nothing which is seen in every series and movie constant conflicts keep happening like the One Year War, Operation Stardust, The Gryps Conflict, Neo Zeon War, Second Neo Zeon War, Laplace's Box which was the turning point of UC,The Crossbone Vanguard and etc wars that happened in the UC and Turn A awakens created by some unknown civilization during the UC era and Destroys and resets humanity back to the 1900s or so orwellian future and G-Reco follows all of that hence the Name of the main mech is not named Gundam to me I think it's some sort of cursed word in that timeline cause it's a name now involved with war and the Dark History.
So basically uc is non stop war

@@moa9188 i think of this as like the Zelda timeline- separate, but there is a convergence point. for Zelda, it would be Breath of the Wild. for Gundam, it's Turn A.

After War wasn't out of the story line?
In Turn A, footage from the UC shows (made up to that point), G, Endless Waltz, and X are all shown explicitly together on screen. Manga and other publications later claimed that CC and some of the other universes also were somehow part of this timeline.
G Reco isn't here because Tomino claims it comes after Turn A, so I left it out for now (I prefer it as part of that history, but we shall see).
Whether you see it as literal and symbolic, the Dark History represents decades of gundam media being celebrated under one banner of fans sharing what they love.

I feel that 00 doesn’t really fit into Dark History as they ultimately solved their problems by the end of Awakening of the Trailblazer

Tomino should have put it older series like ideon to make the timeline bit more make sense considering ideon has galaxy reset.
There are long standing rumors that he planned another show called Turn A Space that was designed to do exactly that. Hence why the power scaling of the Gundam's capabilities became so vast.

Why is it showing images from Age, 00, IBO, G-Gundam, and Seed???Those Five Gundam franchises are all entirely different universes from the universal century timeline they have nothing at all to do with one another first off and they don't even take place in the Universal Century or Dark History timelines as they are their own stand alone franchises. There is zero reason to include them.
They are all included because Turn A is the endpoint of all those timelines. They all ultimately end with the Turn A and Turn X resetting everything.
It's canonically confirmed that all Gundam timelines are tied to TURN A GUNDAM. Including a MG manual said that 00 and AGE tied to the Turn A Gundam.
Even after all this time, I'm still not fond of the dark history concept, don't get me wrong, Turn A is a S-tier show, but I have never been fond of dragging the ACs to UC's 40k/battletech-tier endless conflict
In Anno Domini, humanity finally evolved as a species, Future Century is just a few steps away from going the way of Gurren Lagann's final episode, After War finally prevented another O.Y.W-tier conflict from happening, and so on, most of these alternate centuries won their peace, to say it all went to hell and got wiped out by Moonlight Butterfly feels wrong to me, plus, if every timeline suddenly converged in some Crisis on infinite earths type of conflict, it opens a whole new can of worms of, what happened to the Innovators ? Where are the Shuffle Alliance Crests ?, etc
Tomino wanted to conclude that all Gundam produced are official in an official media (since before Turn A is made, people argued whenever G, Wing and X are official or "real" Gundams or not).
He never exactly tried to explain how Gundam timelines converge so as to leave people room for imagination. But the idea is, all events that happened in UC and other timelines are merely temporarily achieved peace, and so long as people existed there will be war, with Turn X and Turn A being the final trigger to set off all the tragedies people fought so long to avoid in the most destructive and complete means possible.
I am not saying you have to take the scene so literally (though I think a timeline with just G, Wing and X and UC as the show originally visualized could work okay if one wished), but it was certainly meant as a celebration of the franchise's heritage and themes of war and tragedy always being a part of the human's experience and growth.

I see most of the other AUs as being fictional within the context of Turn-A. On the other hand, I also think that should Turn-A not have happened, UC would have eventually become Battletech; a universe without Newtypes, AMBAC, or an iota of sweetness or kindness.
