Kevin Raposo here with speedyphotographer.com, and today, I’ll be breaking down five ways you can start making money as a beginner photographer.
So, the first way to make money as a beginner photographer is to shoot high-volume photography.
Now, what do I mean by high-volume photography? I’m referring to the types of photography that are easily repeatable and don’t take up a lot of your time.
Moving on, the second way to make money as a beginner photographer is to overcome your fear of judgment.
I can tell you that comparing myself to others and worrying about what they thought was paralyzing. I wasted hours of my life scrolling through Instagram and wondering how my work would be perceived by the other creative people I saw, time which should have been spent marketing myself to potential clients.
The third way to make money as a beginner photographer is to monetize your knowledge.
Photography is not just you pushing a button. You’re doing it with purpose - by combining your knowledge of lighting, composition, color, and camera settings to produce the best possible picture in that moment. And you need to remember that when you’re pricing your work. If anybody could do it with an iPhone, you wouldn’t have a job.
Now, the fourth way to make money as a beginner photographer is to diversify your income.
Most entrepreneurs like to share this common piece of advice not only because - obviously - it can increase your income, but because it provides you with security. If one source of income fails, then you have another to fall back on. More importantly, this means that you can be a lot more patient and avoid underpaid work.
Finally, the fifth way to make money as a beginner photographer is to suggest what your client needs.
This is especially important when you’re a beginner, because you probably don’t have a list of clients and you have to put more work into marketing yourself.
So, those are the five ways that you can make money, today, as a beginner photographer.

I wish you went into more detail with the first option, how do you find sports events? Who do you talk to? Do you just show up and take pictures? Who do you give the pictures to? Same with real estate photos. Do you use an app to help people find you and you can advertise your work. Need a lot more info

So glad I found this channel! Photography has always been a passion of mine but I've never had the knowledge or confidence to make into something i can do for a living. I don't have much gear right now, only my camera, an all-right lens, and a battery grip. Do you recommend acquiring more gear before taking on shoots? Also how do you feel about apprenticing with photographers who are already in the business? Regardless ill definitely be signing up for your online course!

Great video but how do you go on for approaching someone for a sports event for example? I see so Many videos saying what sort of thing to shoot but never really anything on that initial point on contact a lot of local clubs near me don't have widely available contact info unless you're actually contacting to join/sign up for the club, also pricing is it better to do a flat rate so no matter how long the job takes start to finish you get X amount of money or is it better to do hourly? If hourly what is a good starting price as I feel I get less work when I try to go with an hourly rate because people want to know exactly how much or how long it'll take but each job time is different depending on the event/shoot but if you consider travel, the event/shoot itself, the editing time you could be running upwards of like 10+ hours and then its a case of well that's expensive I'm not paying that kinda price whereas with flat rate its more like right its this price and that covers everything?

Hi Kevin, thanks for this awesome presentation. For a years I worked hard to save money in order to purchase some photography equipment for my Food Photography business. Now, I have all stuff that you need for start a Photography Business. But, I am afraid of what if I couldn't be successful and beside that I have no idea how can I start this business and what should I do at the beginning. What's your thoughts on this?

Nature photography can be a tough starting point to monetize. You may want to try starting with another photography niche and then pivot

I talk about this in other videos, but you can take the leap of faith and out yourself out there as a photographer while still working a day job. Safest way to get started

    Hello how are you?
Congratulations on the video, I just found it in a TH-cam search.
Can you help me understand something?
How can I, a Brazilian photographer, work as a freelancer in sporting events such as races, obstacle races, trail races, etc.?
Is there any company that hires foreigners to work as freelancers? If yes, what do you need? My intention is to start at the beginning of 2024 at sporting events around the world.
My dream is to be a sports photographer around the world covering this together with a team.
It's a shame that here in Brazil we don't have much information about access in America and Europe.
I thank you for your attention.
