*might be coming from a biased perspective if you cant tell by my username* But, another unconventional tip for anyone out there is see if there are any local comic/sci-fi/anime conventions in your area because there are TONS of cosplayers willing to spend some money to get photos of their costumes done during conventions. You can easily get multiple clients in one day and most cosplayers already expect photographers to have hourly rates so you can figure out a price you think suits your skill level and go from there. And a great thing about this as well is you dont necessarily need to pay to attend the event since most photoshoots at conventions happen outside of where you would need a badge/wrist band. This works especially well of you're also just looking for experience with shoots and working with people in general. It may seem stupid, nerdy and the photos you get might not fit into your portfolio very well but its honestly a great way to make some money or gain some practice if you happen to have any conventions in your area.
PhantomPhoenixCosplay but always be careful to check that the con doesn’t have any photographers already booked! You don’t want to ruffle any feathers and risk getting kicked or in trouble. Other than that this is a great idea.

Same! I love making little videos & seeing people's reactions when they see my photos... Just hate it when people are like "yeah you like it as a hobby, but when it becomes your job you'll not like it..."
those people who complain that they have to work as a photographer dont truly deserve the job imo. i would love for my passion to be my means of living. i would still try and make time to shoot the subjects that i love and do whatever else i could to not remain stale as a professional photographer. i think thats what people are really saying when they dont like it as a job- their creativity just stops and they forget to challenge themselves like how we do as beginners.
I got here this way: 1. search for an EOS R review in 2018 2. Got McKinnon’ed 3. Obviously being the German I am, loved Chris’ videos (Peter’s video about the 100k lead me there) 4. Yeaaah no one should get into photography just for the sole purpose of making money. Everyone who does that fails and quilts after sending tons of money. It should start off as a hobby of passion I’ve seen people try and make Money when they can’t even control a DSLR.
What kills me is people like one of my friends who does photography for money (he also enjoys it) who only shoot on automatic and don't correct for things like backlighting, and just never even try to shoot on manual or even aperture priority. He also constantly puts me down because I shoot film, but that's just bonus info I guess.
@@chainsaw2046 I get what you're saying, i'm starting into wedding photography, and in my city (located in mexico) i see a lot of automatic photographers that get a lot of paid work and even tho some have better cameras, the pictures still look terrible, i once found like 2 or 3 FB pages of some photographers in my city and when i started checking their pics i thought the profiles were a joke, they upload absolutely everything and it's clear that they just take out the pictures from the camera to the pc, no edition no fixing, they even upload the out of focus ones, and i'm not talking about an artistic choice to have bokeh or have the subjects out of focus on purpose, more like not giving the camera enought time to do the autofocus in what you want. I still have a lot to learn, but damn when i saw those pics i thought they looked like the first couple pics i took when i just got my first camera.
I’m about 3-4 months into doing photography so I am a beginner I really do enjoy it as a hobby but it would be nice to be able to make some money off of it through my photography website
Maddie Games put in the time first, go out and shoot random things everyday. Develops your style and learn your camera inside and out. I’ve been doing it part time for the past 8 years
"Everyone"? Trust me, i know a few who are ONLY in it for the money and have been doing it for years. We have to realize that some people honestly don't care about the artistic value or what "real" photographers put into their work. The client sometimes just wants an airbrushed picture that can be achieved with the latest smart phone.
I'm a photographer. I've won some awards. My photographer friend had me do her wedding and engagement shoots. I don't travel to exotic locations (they require funds). I shoot with natural light for the most part. I take that challenge to keep showcase my subject's natural beauty. I don't show the world most of my stuff.
Lol watched this video a year ago, never really tried to make money as a photographer. But now I'm accepting jobs and this month my first month I got three jobs 😁. Futures brighttt
Holy mackerel I just found your channel and it's soooo good. Amazing to see a woman in this space, as there aren't enough on youtube. Only 25 videos and 14k subs! A few more videos and you're gonna be huge. Subbed!
Will check the contest out for sure! The most important thing that got me started was just doing projects for my friends and family - there's less pressure and it feels a way more comfortable - and then as you build more and more confidence and a portfolio to show off then it all starts snowballing!
That's also a great idea! Be careful though as you get more experienced, family members can start to ask quite a lot from you! I've been asked to shoot family members weddings and I decline because 1. They're A LOT of work. 2. It would be so terrible if for some reason they weren't happy with the results and there would be some very permanent lasting awkwardness.
See you on Shuttout Dani! And I can agree with you - starting with shooting your family and friends, family parties etc is always a great start. And then people WANT you to come as a photographer and you can start building your position from that easily!
Lizzie Peirce agreed and agreed! Once you've done a couple of things and feel like you're ready it's definitely time to start charging - it took a while for me to learn my worth but now I feel more confident to work in a way that actually works for me :)

Jason, I believe that A7II is also a great choice and you will be more than happy with it! I was also considering this camera (my friend uses it and loves it) but ultimately decided to stay for a little while with Sony A6300 and aps-c sensor because I had lenses to adapt from my aps-c Canon 70d that died... Looking forward to seeing your best shot (with A7II or anything else) on Shuttout soon! Have fun! That's the most important part :)

Hi Matt ! What a coincidence ! Unfortunately I won’t be visiting Poznan. I’m spending a few days in Warsaw then going to Krakòw because I’m a huge fan of Tadeusz Kantor. Maybe some other time !
Great video &advice. You also need to be appreciated and get paid. I live on an expensive island and most here want you to work for FREE! Cellphone photographs feel they are as good as a trained photographer. Cheap isn't an income. Get paid what you're worth.
This is really cool 😎. I am so happy for you that you got to become a photographer and make money 💰. You are very impressive young woman 😀. At the moment, I am using my Panasonic lumix dmc zs 100 camera as a hobby but I do want to make money off it and improve my work

Great and powerful video Lizzie Peirce! I'm a beginner photographer too and this video helped me a lot! And I just wanted to say thank you so much! Also, I Liked and subscribed to see more of these amazing videos!
Great video Lizzie. I'm from Glasgow but grew up on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. If you're still in the country you should def visit Skye...it's incredible. Google it if you are unaware. I'm in New Zealand at the moment but wish I was home to show you guys around
These tips are great, but I have a question and hope someone can answer this to me, how do I get in contact later on with the client to send them the pictures and everything? Do you usually get paid in cash and checks or how do you all do transactions?
So much fun to watch this content. Awesome work. Im now inspired to work on my own TH-cam channel. And oh yeah, consider that you've gotten one more new subscriber. :)
Love this video, I been looking for someone that has done stock photography based out of Belgium, because tax laws here are pretty specific on how we are allowed to earn money on the side. What i do know for sure is that we are not allowed to take on any photography jobs while we are jobless, we need to have a steady 20+ hours a week main job for that. Stock photography on the other hand i am not sure about.
Really? That's so bad, in Italy you can do whatever you want as long as it's legal and you pay taxes! Are you sure? This sounds so weird, try contact a lawyer, or even a student lawyer and ask them, you should be able to do it as long as you pay taxes. That's not even fair, so you don't have photographers that just do photography as a job?
@@ikramrafi6481 Lawyers are extremely expensive no? Not really a option for me. There are 2 kinds of photographers here in Belgium 1. They have a main job (minimum 20 hours a week for at least 3 months previously) and they run registered photography business as a second job. 2. They are a full time professional photographer, but that they need to bill about 4000-5000 euros a month to have enough left over after taxes to be able to buy food and live from it. Stock photography i have no clue where that fits in or if we are allowed to do it to earn some money when we don't fit into 1. or 2.
@@phildoodler2199 That is sadly what a lot of people do and and makes becoming a full time photographer extremely difficult because of the unfair competition. But yes i also think they should not be taking so much money away from people the way they are spending it here.
@@trancer03 It's similar in the UK. It's called the poverty trap. If you receive unemployment benefits, you obviously can't be earning elsewhere and still receive benefits.
Honestly I’m getting Peter McKinnon style vibes here. I love the b-roll and change in location to spice up the video! Keep doing what you’re doing!

Great video &advice. You also need to be appreciated and get paid. I live on an expensive island and most here want you to work for FREE! Cellphone photographs feel they are as good as a trained photographer. Cheap isn't an income. Get paid what you're worth.
I pretty much subscribe to every channel with high quality and good editing!! 🤣🤣🔥🔥
Thanks for all the tips! Gonna get a lot done this weekend now!
Yes Daniel!!
What video camera do you recommend for breaking into videography?
Great tips. It was fun to see the castle btw :)
Great video thank you for sharing . Do you have any suggestions on how to start selling stock photos and where to find places that by them ?
Hi lizie! I'm a new subscriber.. Love ur content!! I have question though, don't u think photography is an oversaturated market to get money from?
Just rewatched this video ... great one! 😊

Youre the best! Thanks for the opportunity
This is really cool 😎. I am so happy for you that you got to become a photographer and make money 💰. You are very impressive young woman 😀. At the moment, I am using my Panasonic lumix dmc zs 100 camera as a hobby but I do want to make money off it and improve my work
This is the first video I have ever watched on your channel.
Subscribed!! What a great video! btw what if you dont have a dslr camera but u use an iphone for photography?
You should go to Isle of Mull and Isle of Iona. I lived there for 5 years. I love that place, Scotland is beautiful .
Subbed when you said Ryerson because I just graduated from there, what, small world
WHOA! Chris Hau shows up out of nowhere!
I love this video! Thank you so much! I am stuck in the situation just like you were! I will definitely try out all your advise! Thank you!
Great video. It might be a great help for the freelance photography for the beginners.
Peter McKinnon vibes! Keep up the amazing work!
She's doing the slav squat/ Indian squat position in the beginning of the video......I thought that was a special power that only some peoples poses
Ahsan Aslam I have done it myself it truly is a powerful position
WOOO Scotland!! I live in Edinburgh and my Boyfriend is from an island on the other side of Oban! Hope you loved it. Thanks for the tips Lizzie! That honorarium is going to help me in my everyday practice as well I think.
Chris hau the legend just pops out of nowhere
I'm using a canon t3i right now too haha. Thanks for the great tips to a true beginner like me!
Great and powerful video Lizzie Peirce! I'm a beginner photographer too and this video helped me a lot! And I just wanted to say thank you so much!
Also, I Liked and subscribed to see more of these amazing videos!
I am so lucky because I have just started photography and I live in Scotland! 🏴
Best beginnner tip vid I have found
There are other platforms like Shuttout. Foap and EyeEm are both apps on the app store that have been nice for me.
I did some shots with my Huawei mate 9, its a 2 year old phone but still i got some sweet photos that are waiting on gettyimages to be bought.
5:45 Pat seems like the kindest guy you could imagine
I thought he was Mr. Magoo.
I’m from Scotland but on holiday in Canada atm🙌. Banff bound tomorrow!
I really enjoyed this video as a whole. I’m gonna check out your channel, I’ve subscribed! ❤️ looking forward to seeing what else you got to show
Very helpful thank you ! Also quick question: do you script your videos or wing it?
I live in scotland haha, thank you for this :)
Sweet video definitely just joined the contest! This is such a fun way to share your work!
Thanks for joining! I've just seen your photos on Shuttout. Looking good! I'm stoked! :)
Amazing! Good luck!! :)
Great video!
What sites do you recommend to sell stock footage / photos on?
The Facebook group idea is great but I’m in a small town, what kind of things can I look up to find stuff that will help?
Lizzie is it to late to enter now?
I reckon Ist thing to learn would be to find out how to set the camera at a hight and distance so as you can stand and not squat down.
So much fun to watch this content. Awesome work. Im now inspired to work on my own TH-cam channel. And oh yeah, consider that you've gotten one more new subscriber. :)
Thanks for all this information. I will try this contest. Thanks
"Coolest taxi car ever"
Typical Taxi car in the United Kingdom haahaha xD!
I wish to see the famous NYC Taxi cars!
There are 2 kinds of photographers here in Belgium
1. They have a main job (minimum 20 hours a week for at least 3 months previously) and they run registered photography business as a second job.
2. They are a full time professional photographer, but that they need to bill about 4000-5000 euros a month to have enough left over after taxes to be able to buy food and live from it.
Stock photography i have no clue where that fits in or if we are allowed to do it to earn some money when we don't fit into 1. or 2.
@@trancer03 you could always try doing it for 'cash in hand' and make sure the corrupt government don't find out.
