Switching to sport/normal is the wrong way to "stop the sim". In those modes it will still read stick positions and try to fly by your command, and sport doesn't even do obstacle slowing except for ground contact. Alternatively, you have the brake trigger on the left which does the following: ignores stick position, freezes position, hovers, and enters normal mode. Push that button as soon as you think "oh shit" and you're saved. It's really fast. I've used it hundreds of times without a problem. The motor-stop trigger is on the right. So in manual mode up high you should cover the brake trigger, when low you should cover both brake and motor-stop. This is my first drone and I really like it. The three modes, attitude limits, coordinated turn options, and brake button give me a really gentle stepwise learning curve. I'm practicing in both the sim and the drone and getting better at manual mode. I think I'll always enjoy normal mode in gusty wind because it's purely GPS track. Sport mode does station keeping with neutral sticks but will drift in crosswind as soon as it's moving. These varying levels of automation really improve the flying experience.
I think what you're supposed to do if you go out of control is to hit the "panic button", as opposed to putting it in N mode. I believe DJI calls this the "Emergency Brake and Hover" button, and it has the universal "pause" symbol on it. This still might not have saved the drone from crashing, but it's designed to bring the drone to an immediate stop.
It was about to say. Going into sport mode is the *very* slow version of this. The panic button is meant to stop the drone within a second, while entering sport takes like 4 seconds.
Agree. However inverted even a computer program is at the mercy of Newton’s law. Keep in mind it was dropping incredibly fast. If it didn’t hit the top of the tree it may have recovered in time. A lot happens in 1 second. Finding a extremely large empty field is ideal but near impossible today for the average person especially in bigger cities. Ahhhh. Back in the day. Note did initially practice in an open field but then felt confident to try in another location.
How do you get the video from your drone to your computer if you have a micro sd chip? Btw I used your videos to study for the part 107 test and I got an 87%!Thanks man!!

@@TonyAndChelsea ok 👌 thankyou Tony I look forward to this evening soon do you know how long it takes for International travel to the UK by any chance? Kind regards.
Yeah it's a fundamental design conflict for those who plan to use it for video. Potential buyers with previous DJI experience don't necessarily understand that compromise.
And I recommend a cheap Tinywhoop with prop guards and a good simulator and a lot of batteries and flying sessions. And a good repair kit. And betaflight tutorials. That's how it all starts, no way around it...
Using the vistas and air units you need to change it to 5.8g and might be a good idea to get a set of LHCP or patch antennas for 5.8g the dual band antennas might not perform as good. As of now the controller that comes with the fpv drone doesn’t bind to the vistas or air units. We’ll see what they come out with next, but real cool that your getting into FPV.
You can connect goggles,to 3rd party hd drones.but the fpv controller isn't compatible with the caddx vista or air module, that BTW dji just stopped supporting/supplying.youll be needing 3ŕd party controller or get a dji controller from somewhere other than dji,about£300/$400 .
You should try the cinewhoop in angle mode. And compare if it was a better decision to start with that vs dji. The beauty of the fpv drones they are cheaper and you can repair them yourself if you want.
Buy a hd cinnewhoop. Small, agile, lightweight, hd. U will fly in analog unless you buy a digital system as far as goggles go in viewing the Fpv footage however when you take the recording and play it back off the sd card it will be in 1080.
The rabbit hole of FPV goes pretty deep Tony, I hope you're prepared! I'd recommend the Liftoff simulator by the way, it's the best one I've used and you can connect most transmitters to it (if you're getting a Cinewhoop, you'll need to get the other square DJI controller anyways, as the new gamepad DJI controller you have only works with the DJI FPV drone, currently). After MANY hours in Liftoff, I can fly like a pro pilot doing crazy maneuvers, and those skills transfer to the real world. Although note that for the crazy acrobatic shots you might want, a cinewhoop with ducted props will handle quite poorly. They're good for cinematic cruising shots, but a standard 5 inch quad (without prop guards) will perform better for more acrobatic shots. Check out the iFlight Cidora SL5 HD or the Diatone Roma F5 HD. Those two are probably the best value 5 inch bind & fly drones on the market right now.
Definitely buy a 5” too if you want to do acrobatics, cinewhoops fly like a bus in the air. Which is great for filming! But your lighthouse inverted flip, a 5” would be better.
I think it's quite pointless to compare a potentially acro drone with a pure cinematic one. Also, the DJI FPV drone is everything but durable. There's a lot of misunderstanding around the FPV drone, but one thing is sure to me: you need to be an FPV acro pilot to fly the FPV drone. If you're buying it just to keep it in normal or sport mode, then use that money to buy an air or even a mini. If you want to enable what they call the "manual mode" (acro) you need a lot of practice to avoid crashing - and again, that drone is not forgiving *at all* , a single hit against a tree can easily break an arm.
Really fun video. Somewhere I actually have a Mavic 2 Zoom that I bought years ago and never used because I was working 6 days a week at the time. But watching this I am reinspired to find my drone, and learn how to use it. Then I'll fall down the rabbit hole of editing video footage. I don't even know what programs people use to color contrast and edit video these days. Databyter
I hade the same experience with an Mavic Pro (first version), flying autonomize in an wood landscape from an "sand pit". Didn't know that the ground were raising 10 meters. The result was an Mavic Pro stuck 75-100 meters above the bottom of the sandpit... Tried for 15 minutes to get it down (until the battery went out) Dji app made it easy to find the aproximatly position and alo was able to locate it with the ound of the props) but i didn't get it down. Wrote it of mentaly and planning on looking for a new one. A friend asked me a few weeks later if i had found it since it had been stormy. Went out (had GPS tagged the position and 2 trees away it was laying in the moss. I thought that it at least should have brooken an arm and it looked like it had BUT it turned out that it had just folded it in during the fall. The only small obvious error was one of the landinglegs (hidding the GPS antenna) were broken.... Took it home tried it.. Works perfectly after a few weeks in the frezzing chilling sweedish winter/spring.

Just more flying enjoyment. That's a good thing!

What’s with the footage from the mavic air 2
That drone screaming in the intro freaked me out 😂😂
I think what you're supposed to do if you go out of control is to hit the "panic button", as opposed to putting it in N mode.
USB card reader from pretty much any store selling electronics and/or digital cameras.
Plug the reader into the computer, put the SD card in the slot on the reader and from there it works like any other USB storage device.
You should do a review of the Litchi. It has the FPV mode with 3d googles for a smartphone. I use it with the Mavic air 2 in sport/ FPV mode.
How can someone do do/locate the simulator???
134bpm TONY! That’s where I am 5 miles into a run!! 🏃♂️😂
How does one crash when have a pannik button ???????
Why is the air 2 footage jumpy?
I laughed out loud when he said the cinewhoop is quiet! I own the Cinebee that he was looking at, it's very loud.
It’s a love hate relationship with DJI care refresh for me ! I lost £800 from a salt water crash, literally a 2 second dip after my mavic air 2 lost altitude flying forward 5ft off the ground ! Lesson learned, I’m back in the air now ! Stay safe, great video.
Fantastic review! Overall how effective is the simulator when learning to fly?
i don't think they ever did
@@bigbolasmfnamedtravis7812 I don’t think you watched the video. They showed the SIM. Lol.
Hello there Tony and Chelsea I recently placed an order with yourselves and not received the items as yet I have tried to email you but cannot find a email address anywhere.
Kind regards.
Heya Scott! You can email me at tony@northrup.org. your order is on it's way but international orders do take a while because of customs on your side. Thanks!
@@TonyAndChelsea ok 👌 thankyou Tony I look forward to this evening soon do you know how long it takes for International travel to the UK by any chance?
Kind regards.
Chelsea, what happened to your VLOS, and Tony where is your spotter?
12:25 how can that be a problem? It is an FPV drone.... a gimbal or a feature leveling the horizon would ruin it.
Yeah it's a fundamental design conflict for those who plan to use it for video. Potential buyers with previous DJI experience don't necessarily understand that compromise.
I recommend the Diatone Taycan HD and you can put an Insta360 camera on it and get some amazing videos.
And I recommend a cheap Tinywhoop with prop guards and a good simulator and a lot of batteries and flying sessions. And a good repair kit. And betaflight tutorials. That's how it all starts, no way around it...
Using the vistas and air units you need to change it to 5.8g and might be a good idea to get a set of LHCP or patch antennas for 5.8g
the dual band antennas might not perform as good.
Yeah not $35 a arm
Stanfpv has a 5" cinewhoop with prop guards
nice . what did you use for the obstacle course,, were those hoola hoops ?
Yeah
I'm very interested in your next drone ,if you could show the whole process
What happened to Justin Eckert?
Can you fly the Air with the goggles?
Simple compact drone :
-folds it wrong
Me: yes it would have been simple 😂😅bruh
Thanks good info!
Definitely buy a 5” too if you want to do acrobatics, cinewhoops fly like a bus in the air. Which is great for filming! But your lighthouse inverted flip, a 5” would be better.
He'd still crashed. He prob stayed on the throttle when inverted.
@@divingfalconfpv4602 I mean everyone crashes, it's a part of the hobby. Live and learn.
You can find the prop guards on ebay for the FPV.
The picture quality was the best I have seen anywhere!
What camera are you using?
A7s3
I used that FAA course and I passed the test on my first try. Thanks for the great info.
...when good things are in wrong hands!
😂🤣😂🤣You guys are hilarious af🙌🏽 I love this video“ we both went into halftime with injuries “ 😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
most if not all your dji air videos are laggy on this video. why is that?
TIL a USB-C to barrel connector is a "proprietary cord" xD
FYI you can use any battery between like 12V and 25V with a barrel connector
Try some Avegant Glyphs with the dji controller on the Air 2, they are perfect. Line of sight plus faultless video.
Northrup's videos in 6 months: 10 minutes of affiliate links, 5 minutes of a review. 🤔
I don’t know why it was so lagging for them when they were so close to the mavic🤔 I never had this issue
Databyter
Loving mine, yet, I do not speed, cinematic vid recording at 4K are awesome... and I have glasses... too awesome
Use foam pipe insulatiion for your hoops. No damage
I hade the same experience with an Mavic Pro (first version), flying autonomize in an wood landscape from an "sand pit". Didn't know that the ground were raising 10 meters. The result was an Mavic Pro stuck 75-100 meters above the bottom of the sandpit... Tried for 15 minutes to get it down (until the battery went out)
Dji app made it easy to find the aproximatly position and alo was able to locate it with the ound of the props) but i didn't get it down.
I don't understand your bath/large sink. There are steps leading up to it, but then it seems very small for a bath 🤷🏽♂️
Those cinewhoops are louder than any other drone rn lol
People people, there are many drones / quads out there doing what they're good at! DJI makes these like camera platforms that anyone can fly. Easy and safe. And now they widened there envelope, with making one with good quality video / photo footage and also with fun flying capabilities and an extra fun flying controller. That's just icing on the cake! Just more flying enjoyment. That's a good thing!
Latency? Don't have any on my Air 2s
