    I have been worried about people greasing my truck so just today went and bought me a air supply grease gun to grease it myself thanks for the info on the greases

      Of all the service checklist items that have the risk of being ignored, greasing all the zerks is the most common one. :( People haaaaaaaaaate greasing all the fittings and contact points that need it to be done regularly. Many of the lazy techs/shops try hard to get away with skipping it if they look and see that any quantity of grease is already present and seems to be clean and plentiful. If the customer makes a big deal about the greasing before handing over the keys, it'll usually get done. If you become well known at the shop for crawling under and checking to make sure it was done, they will almost always make damn sure it's done and done well. It should NOT be this way, but people are people and they will take any clear and relatively safe shortcut they feel like they can get away with taking. 🙄 Been there, done that. I did passenger car and truck service and almost all of them now are devoid of any grease fittings at all. Trucks may still have ones on the U joints, but that's it. You are making a really good choice buying your own gun and making sure the grease is applied when it oughta be applied. 👌

    Researched grease years ago Best i have found is texas refinery 880. 100 lb timkin load and stay's where I put it. They have better for extreme applications but general use I have not found better for equal or less money. Molly is good in non bearing applications but tends to gum up roller/ball bearings starving them .

    I have looked into automotive greases, and Ford calls for one type of grease, and everybody else calls for another. Valvoline Durablend says it is good for Ford and non-Ford applications. That would make it a perfect match for any class B, B+, or C RV.

    I've been in the ag and excavation industry my whole life and the best grease that I've found is Lucas Red and Tacky for pins and bushings and the Lucas Xtra heavy duty grease for wheel bearings, u-joints and other fast moving components.

    • @Jerzeyguy
      @Jerzeyguy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Clyde Acor just bought the hd Lucas , for dump trk application. Was using chevron red& tacky. It seems to wash out after a week.

    • @clydeacor1911
      @clydeacor1911 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Jerzeyguy I've used just about every grease out there from the cheap stuff to the high dollar mining grease and used it on everything from excavators, loaders, dump trucks, to my pickups and I've found that the Lucas lasts about twice as many runtime hours between greasing and I've had to do a lot less maintenance caused repairs due to wear by using their grease. It impressed me so much that I use nothing but their products. I get such a good deal on their products that I actually pay less than I did using other brands so I save money by not paying as much for products and I save money from not having as much downtime and repairs.

    • @Jerzeyguy
      @Jerzeyguy 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Clyde Acor That’s good to hear this is my first time with the Lucas Grease. Like you I’ve tried everything else the best stuff that are used to use which they don’t make it anymore was Dryden. Excellent can’t fight anymore

    • @clydeacor1911
      @clydeacor1911 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Jerzeyguy ya they don't make things like they used to. I've found that the Lucas red and tacky works good on things like pins and bushings on loaders and excavators because it's really sticky and the xtra heavy duty is a thinner grease but is rated a little bit higher temperature but it also works good on truck chassis. I'd just experiment between the two and see what works best for you that's what I did. Everyone's working conditions and applications are different, just have to do what works best for you.

    Sometimes the high spec grease by the big companies don't add up. Worked in a landfill and they used citgo Molly....thought it was inferior when I first started and saw it but worked great on dozers scrapers.and grader...The truck shop used Shaffers premium lithium and it was a diaster....many components run dry...The Citgo was incredibly cheap grease but out preformed everything. You have to go by personal experience as many brands promise a lot by their specs but fall short in the real world. I could name many brands

      @prevost8686 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Zeeshan Ahmad Exon Mobil probably has the lion’s share of most O.E. Supplied lubricants in the automotive, heavy equipment and class 8 trucks. They’re just so huge and can price so competitively that smaller suppliers can’t compete. Their products are also above average across the board too. They’re like the Toyota of the lubricant world.

    • @thelol1759
      @thelol1759 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I feel it’s important to note that while the OEM matters, with oils and greases it’s especially important to know about the additive package and standard (iso or SAE) to which it is manufactured.

  • @PAT111
    @PAT111 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Calcium sulfonate grease is good stuff but moly is not for everything. But both Hadlex and gunite warn against using grease with moly in auto slack adjusters because it could cause slippage of the one way clutch. This is probably true for all the other makes of auto slack as well since they all have internal one way clutch.

    • @RoughRiderBB
      @RoughRiderBB 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not only that, moly should not be used in high speed applications, especially wheel bearings. Moly is a solid lubricant and any solids in a bearing caused premature wear.

    • @mannys9130
      @mannys9130 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Will you think about reconsidering this point of view? There are definitely right and wrong greases to use for different things. Just pumping whatever you pick off the shelf can do some serious harm over time. Mixing soaps is bad, and pumping in the wrong viscosity can also be harmful if it is too thin to stay and make a film or too thick to move and go where it's needed most.

    Just razzin ya Josh. Good information. Coming from an Ag background myself the first thing I learned is if deciding the perfect grease is stopping you from greasing you're doing it wrong. Any grease is better than no grease. Never witnessed a failure from the grease selection only the lack of it. Look forward to the Schaeffers and Amsoil comments.
