Well what you can do as I recently discovered is create a route on normal google maps on your desktop (easier to do on a big screen) then click "send to my phone". The desktop then sends the route you created to your google maps app on your mobile device. You then access this saved route on your mobile app by clicking "updates" bottom right of google maps screen (I am using android) then click "notifications" and your saved route is listed on your notifications. You open up this notification and your route appears and can then be used as a normal sat nav guided route with screen and voice prompts. Note: you must be on or near the route commencement point for the "start" button to appear. Great thing about this is it sticks to the route you created and does not surprise you by sending you off it for any reason. Obviously you must check that "notifications" on your google maps app on your phone is switched on - otherwise the notifications won't get sent to the app.

Hi. Thanks for the great video. When creating a route, is there a way to replace the waypoint icons on the map (A, B, C, etc.) with different icons? Thanks.
It will change depending on the region you are from I believe. You can try to change the setting within Google maps first then go back to my maps. Again, it might depend on which country your account is set in.
Depends on you country km is displayed in Europe by default and in the United States it's miles. It will change depending on the viewer settings I believe, within Google maps.
Bummer I just want to drive little secondary roads that I create in My Maps. Twenty minutes in you haven't told how to do that. You're talking about 3 or 4 other map apps you use which I don't care about. I still don't know how to create a route.. This was titled for Beginners. Maybe you can recommend a video that will show someone trying to use My Maps for the very first time how to create a driving map on secluded country roads. Don Hampead, Maryland. U.S.
Thank you for creating this! Would you be interested in collaborating on the development of a mobile app that allows you to access and create interactive maps to share with others? The app lets you invite friends to participate in the map creation process and allows you to interact with friends within the map itself. The app is almost ready, but would you like to try it before we launch? If so, with your feedback we could fine tune it to create something that you and your fans would love.
Thanks!! But if this is truly for BEGINNERS, don't mention "the UI" as many people don't know = User Interface. Or the limited colors don't "wish it was Hex" as most people aren't familiar with hexadecimal color. I follow you, but most will go "blank" and not retain the overall lesson. (a color hex code is a hexadecimal way to represent a color in RGB format by combining three values - the amounts of red, green and blue in a particular shade of color. These color hex codes have been an integral part of HTML for web design). Obviously you are a tech dude, me too, but it is a foreign language for the vast majority if doing a lesson for beginners. Otherwise fantastic, personally I learned a lot about mapping with this pgm from you.
Well points noted but knowing the what hex codes are or not, it's not big deal knowing what it is exactly. I think most people will see the buttons to change the colors and that's enough for them, for me I find the options a bit limited. That why I briefly showcase other options to get colors you might want instead. I think these days more and more people will need to get used to these names like UI. Becuase it's the most important aspect when using any app or software on a phone or pc. But points noted.
@@TheOneGoodRoad You missed my point. Those of us that understand tech, have to learn how to talk to beginners. Your title is for beginners - so if you want people to be confused with words they don't understand, go ahead and say "UI" and "Hex" I learned that the hard way trying to answer peoples tech questions. You have to realize they don't have the same vocabulary. It has to be put in terms they understand. You can say "menu" or "user interface" but believe me many people don't know what the word "UI" means, or "hex". Personally I do, from creating web sites, but most mortals do not.

How do I add or delete more points to maps I've already saved?
Do you mean once a custom line is drawn?
How did you change to km?
Depends on you country km is displayed in Europe by default and in the United States it's miles. It will change depending on the viewer settings I believe, within Google maps.
Bummer I just want to drive little secondary roads that I create in My Maps. Twenty minutes in you haven't told how to do that. You're talking about 3 or 4 other map apps you use which I don't care about. I still don't know how to create a route.. This was titled for Beginners. Maybe you can recommend a video that will show someone trying to use My Maps for the very first time how to create a driving map on secluded country roads. Don Hampead, Maryland. U.S.
Points noted 👌🏻
Thank you for creating this! Would you be interested in collaborating on the development of a mobile app that allows you to access and create interactive maps to share with others? The app lets you invite friends to participate in the map creation process and allows you to interact with friends within the map itself. The app is almost ready, but would you like to try it before we launch? If so, with your feedback we could fine tune it to create something that you and your fans would love.
Sure thing, send me an email with the details 👌🏻
Your title is for beginners - so if you want people to be confused with words they don't understand, go ahead and say "UI" and "Hex"
I learned that the hard way trying to answer peoples tech questions. You have to realize they don't have the same vocabulary. It has to be put in terms they understand. You can say "menu" or "user interface" but believe me many people don't know what the word "UI" means, or "hex". Personally I do, from creating web sites, but most mortals do not.
@@adjbob56 or even "layers" without explanation what they are!
@@adjbob56 67 yo here trying to learn - 101% agree with you.. There's a hell of a lot of ppl who didn't have computers in society when they were growing up - but now need to use them
@@CosmicSeeker69 Wow - I am also age 67 and not kidding. Small world. My job as an estimator 34 years ago forced me to learn computers to some degree, along with field work. As the years went on I saw computer as a tool and embraced it, because I had a need. If someone doesn't have the need - it is of no use. But as you say, today's society is different. It is part of the air they breath as kids. We had crappy TV like gilligans island, my 3 sons, ozzie & harriet. No one cussed or got laid on TV.
how to add mp4 video into Google My Map?
You could add them from TH-cam
I have a car in Malaysia kl it have a gps and also a cd player
This video isn't for beginners. Thought I would learn to create a map for touring a city with all my own POIs and how to send it to my iPhone for when at destination. I'm so confused.
Ok I've received so many comments like this one I'll try to research on this for a future tutorial. 👌🏻
This sucks, you only have 10 layers to work with
I agree...
For beginners???? You are all over the place and confused me more.
