      @@kpNov23 I keep Neos and crystals in the same tanks and have great luck with it. Only trick is acclimating the cherries to the soft Caridina water conditions. Once they settle in, they'll breed just like in harder water. The other way around (bees in cherry conditions) has not worked out for me though.

      Shrimp Type: Neo 🦐
      Shrimp Amount: 8 females, tons of babies.
      Shrimp Source: Local, I think?
      Tank Size: 5.5 g.
      Substrate: Black Sand
      Filtration: Mini HoB Filter + Small fat Sponge
      Water Source: Tap
      Temp: 80-81? 27 Celsius? I have it on the lowest setting, not sure why it lingers around 80.
      P.H: 8.2 I think?
      Cycle Time: Tank was running 8 months with a betta, then multiple months (4-6) with a guppy, and a few Corydora’s until I moved them to a bigger tank.
      Feeding Type: 1 crab cuisine pellet, I’ve been giving them 2-3 now cause they fight over it, usually I feed them maybe like once a week, but this week I fed it multiple days.
      Ammonia: 0
      Do you Co2: No.
      Tank Mates: Use to be a male guppy 1-2 weeks ago, moved it.
      Parasites: None
      Bacteria: Idk.
      Medication: No.
      Pesticides: No.
      Your shrimp tank maintenance: I use to do water changes only when the water was super evaporated, I’d do a small one, but they kept dying. When I do a top off they die. When I change the water, even small changes I feel like they still die.
      Got a white ring of death recently, despite all the multiple molts few days ago like idk…

    Hey Mark, I'm really struggling here. I just lost my biggest female and my shrimp population is plummeting. I started my tank with 20 Blue dream shrimp about 2 months ago and now I think I only have 5 or 6 shrimp left. The shrimp who died today was the first to be berried and she held the eggs for 3 weeks, but none hatched and she dropped them. I have one more berried shrimp and I observed one baby today, but the rest of the eggs have not hatched yet. Here's the list. Please let me know what you think I can try because I think my shrimp tank is going to be a failure even though I did tons of research and watched a bunch of your videos before attempting this tank. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.
    Shrimp Type? Blue Dream Neocaradina
    Shrimp Amount? Started with 20. I've only seen 5 or 6 at once lately. I've removed at least 8 dead shrimp. Usually one every 2 weeks or so.
    Shrimp Source? Ordered online from aquarium arts
    Tank Size? 20 gallons
    Substrate? Eco Complete
    Filtration? HOB filter with ceramic media and sponges and prefilter sponge to protect baby shrimp
    Water Source? Tap water
    Temperature? steady at 72 degrees Fahrenheit
    PH? 7.6-7.8
    GH? 125.3 ppm - 7 degrees
    KH? 53.7 ppm - 3 degrees
    Ammonia? 0, Nitrite and Nitrate also 0
    Cycle Time? 1 month
    Feeding Type of Food And Amount? Glasgarten shrimp dinner, bacter AE and snowflake every other day. I use a a feeding dish and feed for 3 hours with the shrimp dinner. I use 1/8 scoop when I use bacter AE and usually leave the snowflake in for a couple days in the feeding dish
    Do you use CO2? No
    Tank Mates ? pond snails and MTS
    Parasites? None
    Bacteria? None?
    Medication? None
    Pesticides, Fly Spray ? No pesticides used in my house
    Your Shrimp Tank Maintenance ? I change out 2 gallons weekly (treated with Prime and let to sit for 48 hours) and add a bit more to top up evaporation. I tried to use distilled water for evaporation top ups, but every time I did, I had a shrimp death immediately after. I drip in the water change at 1-2 drops/second, so I don't think this is TDS shock.

      Ever figure it out? I'm kinda in a similar situation just smaller water changes and my temps are at 77

  • @trueblu8

    Is the number one cause of shrimp death from not properly drip acclimating them or from bad water quality?

  • @theoriginaldex

    Question I need help ! I woke up one morning and found all my shrimps clumped up together as if they were eating but I noticed quickly they didn’t seem too active or eating. Instead they were dying I quickly pulled my api test kit and kh/gh tester and everything was perfect. I did a water change 25% with distilled. Also noticed temp at 80f used ice to lower to 75 as soon as I did this they started to move actively but still a few died. Tank is fully cycled and I use fluval substrate. One thing I noticed a lot was I had two niriate snails and there bioload was insane. I removed them from my shrimp only tank. What caused my shrimp to gather in a group? Why after the water change some move frantically and twitching as if they are being poisoned ? Please help

    Sir... I wonder how if I set-up for caridina shrimp using aquascape tools...
    as example using RO water for them with tds 0 and adjust the mineral using shrimp salt?
    the different things... is not using substrate such buffer soil like ADA or Akadama... just using some compos of peat and use CO2 for adjust the PH? (i can't stable this if just using air pump... i thought my soil is not buffer soil)...
    never try this before but i think my tank is mature enough... they keep stable on tds 80-120ppm before weekly water change... ph keep acidic around 6.7 because I am using CO2 (around 1bps)... but i use that gas with high gaseous exchange with powerhead pump for more dissolve oxygen... (agitation water surface)..
    so far.. my neo can live for that condition... but i worry if i put caridina they will suffer because i also add chemical for fertilizer...
    usually... i put some fertilizer 1ml for 50ltr tanks... it add 12 tds... i keep dosing every 3 days... (lean dose)..
    also... my heart will pain if caridina will suffer for that condition because to keep acidic ph using co2...

    it's all so simple yet so complex...I mean there's a guy chucking mixed neocaridina into bins and tubs, a bit of moss and a plant and hey presto he's got tons of breeding going on...and them there's the other end of the spectrum with watermparameters, tds, crushed corals, and all sorts and then there's me...throwing my hands in the air because I've got 2 tanks set up exactly the same...1 happy breeding red neo and the other tank...lost 7 of the 13 I put in it...no clue why so no idea what to do about it...
    don't want to do a major water change, don't see anh issues on my test strips showing up, no clues...I'm just watching out for more bodies and I'm upset its happening 😔

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      hello Susan what is your water source? are you using prime ? how big are your water changes? do you age the water?

  • @marvinnelson5073
    @marvinnelson5073 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Mark, Question about water changes. Do they kill shrimp? By that I don’t mean the changes by people who just change all the time so the water is basically the same, but the very common practice of not many changes but when done, maybe 30% or so and the water is just poured in out of a bucket and often different temperature. Does that stress the shrimp so they die prematurely?
    I was thinking of changes compared to the drip acclimation when receiving shrimp.
    Should one, in order to be safer basically drip the new water into the tank? I am not thinking that slow of drip but if it was 30% maybe a couple hours to refill.

    Q: If you keep shrimp and plants together how, do shrimp tolerate plant fertilizers, such as Seachem Excel ? For example I know it will kill South American Cichlids, but does not effect any other species of fish. Curious if you know anything about this product, and shrimp as they are kept in planted tanks. Jason

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      from what I have heard excel isnt very good with shrimp ,is it not carbon based ?

  • @Dybs_
    @Dybs_ 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've seen a lot of big youtube channels saying that if the shrimp have been shipped, never drip acclimate because the ammonia in the water will do more harm than plop and drop. But what I gather from what you are saying, is that it is not about water differences affecting the shrimp because of true acclimation. The problem is that shrimp will want to molt after plop and drop, but not a few hours of drip acclimation? So the few hours of ammonia is worth it, because the risk of "ring of death" is a greater risk? That makes a lot more sense, is that the case?

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      IMO plop and drop is really only a last resort if you are buying hundreds of shrimp at a time and as you say they are sitting in their own waste.. for guys that buy like 20 shrimp in a breather bag the waste is negligible. And anyways a lot of the better breeders will know to not feed the shrimp the day before they are shipped so there is no waste in the bags.
