    Back in 2016, I had an opportunity to buy an E46 M3, manual, black convertible, with 60k miles, for $20k. The independent repair shop was also a car dealership. The mechanic showed me all the paperwork for the work they had done on it. I walked away. Looking back, I should have done it.

    • @werkstatte-bmwonly9515
      @werkstatte-bmwonly9515  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wish we could get them for this price today. It's probably worth double now.

      @@werkstatte-bmwonly9515 Who knew, right? Admittedly, I didn't have a strong interest in BMWs back then, and I didn't realize what exactly I was looking at.
      No doubt it is double the price now. I can only speak for myself, I wouldn't pay double for a 20 year old chassis. I have to calculate the amount of money I need to set aside each month for future maintenance/repairs, on top of the car loan. Additionally, if I got into an accident and the car got totaled, I don't have the confidence I would be able to recoup even close to what I paid for that year car model.

    Good knowledge. I’m keeping mine SMG. It’s not my daily and you have to learn how to use it- like a clutch less manual. Not sure about the carbon 😳 but each to their own. And those centre console bits can look tatty especially the soft touch bits.

    • @werkstatte-bmwonly9515
      @werkstatte-bmwonly9515  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We convert to manual after SMG fails. It brings vehicles value up and price for repair is similar.

    Ewww, why is the carbon only on half the steering wheel and not replacing the entire piano black plastic area’s?
    Same with the shifter, why is that still Piano black and not Carbon?
    It looks awefull with both, either replace all interior panels with carbon or keep em all piano black.
    Great restoration tips, but the interior radio section also looks terrible still, with all the blank plastic pieces.
    You can put back in the sunglasses holder where the climate control is, and move the climate control to under the radio.
    Or replace that stupidly cheap aftermarket radio with an actual good one that fills the whole gps screen area.
    You could also replace the ashtray with a Dinavin piece that gives you USB ports for your phone, looks OEM still too.

      I mentioned it in the video. The customer showed up to pick up the video so we stopped the project where it was. I would use an OEM radio instead of that aftermarket and I agree with that one.
