    First of all, love the scenery in the background! Looks beautiful and peaceful. Secondly, thank you for sharing websites to find remote jobs! I've been on the job hunt for a VERY LONG TIME and it's so tiring. I never heard of these websites before, so I'll give it look! I'm trying to find beginner-friendly roles (with the exception of editing/proofreading. I can do entry to mid-level for that).
    Thanks again for the resources and take care!

    I understand that you want to sponsor the company.. but let's be real, right now the market is tough for everyone, this kind of courses are not useful anymore and in fact the majority of them are closing.. Yes, you have friends who don't have a degree and work in tech but they got a job some years ago.

    • @iris-tabea
      @iris-tabea  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I agree to disagree :) there have always been ups and downs in the past but I know many many companies that are still hiring at this moment - I am on the lookout myself since I’m curious where to go next. and I believe a career in tech will always be a great asset in the future because the world is always developing and without technology that is simply not possible :) the exact types of tech jobs that are popular might switch around a bit, look at AI jobs for example which are still extremely lucrative right now.
      One example for a job in tech that will forever be recession proof and very much needed is cyber security engineering. Even if companies are putting their development on hold, security is something they can not simply not decide to stop working on.
      I do understand where you’re coming from because obviously it is scary to see and hear that there are recessions (which will always happen every now and then) but in the grand scheme of things there is always opportunity in some fields.

    • @alex-cu1tz
      @alex-cu1tz 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@iris-tabea yes, there re still companies hiring but they also receive an high number of applications.. there is a huge competition, so from my point of view, these companies which provides courses are trying to sell a dream that doesn't exist anymore.
      Agree with you about AI and security jobs but I think, right now, there is competition also there.

    • @iris-tabea
      @iris-tabea  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@alex-cu1tz I totally understand what you mean, there is no guarantee that someone will get a job if they decide to take a bootcamp or get into tech through another way.
      However I still think that if someone is really interested in the field they should give it a go and try :) Like with everything else in life. There are also a loooot of free resources on the internet, there are so many other ways to learn other than bootcamps.
      Working in tech is not the end all be all and with this video I merely want to share some options for people who are interested :)
      I see where you are coming from and I am glad that you are sharing your concerns for everyone else to see and to make an informed decision :) Thank you!

    You can't really work abroad with a regular remote job though because you're creating tax liabilities with the foreign tax authorities when you do that. You're taxed based on the location that the work is done, not where your employer's office is. So this advice of getting a remote job to do that isn't really good, because you can get fired if they audit your IP address. If you want to work abroad you really need to get contract work so that the risk of those tax liabilities transfers to yourself, not simply any remote job. There is also a lot of data privacy and security risk issues with working on client data abroad. There are a lot of risk, legal and tax implications you should consider before providing this advice.

    • @iris-tabea
      @iris-tabea  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

      already done that :) I talked about this in a previous video, there are a lot of aspects to consider and the regulations are different in each country so I always suggest talking to a tax advisor in your area about how to approach this best! :) Most completely remote companies will hire you as contractors which will not create a tax liability for you in the foreign country where the company is located, however you will have to follow the regulations in your country of residence in order to work as an independent contractor or freelancer. Just as an example I am based in Switzerland and in my case I had to set up my own company here to legally work as a freelancer. I worked for a remote company in the US which hired me as a contractor - I was not tied to the tax authorities to the US in any way because of that and I paid my taxes in Switzerland.
      But obviously you always need to double check with the remote company and like I said talking to a tax advisor will make it super easy to figure out what you have to do :)
      In this video I do NOT talk about getting any “regular” job and just to it remotely, obviously they would fire you if they did an IP address audit. I am talking specifically about remote-only jobs and the websites and resources I mentioned are specifically for those types of job lol :) Hope this helps

    Hi, your video is very helpful, thank you !! I really want to do remote job while living in Cape Town, do you know if its better to apply for the VISA before or after finding the job ?

    • @iris-tabea
      @iris-tabea  29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi there 👋🏼 I'm so glad to hear the video was helpful!
      I would say it depends: you never know how long it takes to find a remote job, if you want to go to Cape Town as soon as possible and apply for a visa and leave before finding a job you need to have enough savings to sustain yourself in the meantime. In general I would say it is safer to get a remote job first and then start traveling when you're generating income from it. This way you also have an easier time onboarding and getting to know your job while you're still at home. Starting the remote lifestyle itself is already a big adjustment, it will take a lot of your energy to get used to and get settled in your new place and country, adding the stress of a new job on top of it can be a lot at the same time.
      I hope this helps :)
