I don't reason being is most of the time they edit out wire work the people who did this didn't have the budget as it's part of Warner where they remaster less known or movies who are not as popular so they get a basic budget to do it. They stayed they wanted to leave the movie as it was meant to look but issue there is and you can tell that's a lie the wires stand out way way too much now originally you couldn't see them much because they used certain coloured wires, then the process of filming and filters and editing made the wires less noticeable. All remastering does to HD is reveal what is not meant to be revealed which is why they should have atleast camouflaged them a bit to resemble what it originally looked like and what the makers wanted. Everything else looks great about this remaster though, it does show certain things that were mistakes though like when she flies in closer to the tractor, the guy in the background I always thought it was a guy stood with a camera but now it's HD it's clear and he's got a megaphone shouting instructions...he wasn't supposed to be seen. Another thing they should have done which wouldn't have cost anything was the scene where those 2 guys harras her she blows that guy away and he goes back faster but the other guy she kicks flies back super slow which always looked trash... originally they should have sped up those frames as if he flew back quicker but they forgot that's why he goes back too slow...this could have been easily sorted for the remaster

CW’s supergirl can learn so much from this movie, it’s just absolutely insane how good these scenes are compared to what they’ve done to her origins today.
@@JessicaChastainFan - the Helen Slater version had heart to it. For the Melissa Benoist era, they used everything but. Smallville even had heart until they crapped it up.
I really like Marc McClure as Jimmy Olsen when Supergirl flew over wing while straw on him. He realized another hero Supergirl is here. I like Linda as identity. Marc Mcclure as Jimmy Olsen in Superman the movie 1978. Marc Mcclure was in the Superman ii as Jimmy Olsen and with Margot Kidder as Lois Lane.
When she made this movie, Helen Slater was only 19, had barely graduated from her school of performing arts, had never left home nor worked in front of a camera. And she was thrust in this big-budget flick, starring opposite famous and even legendary actors (Faye Dunaway, Mia Farrow, Peter O'Toole), playing actually two roles (Supergirl and Linda), underwent gruelling physical training and did her own stunts. She carried the whole movie on her shoulders at such a young age while being wholly inexperienced. I loved this movie the first time I saw it and when I watch these scenes again, I cannot help but see Supergirl's adventure as mirroring Helen's own journey as an up-and-coming actress. (Check out the Making Of Supergirl, it's really worth your time.) It's really a shame this movie didn't find its audience. I would've loved seeing Helen in Supergirl sequels and more big movies.
@Marcelo Painter He only said that he loves her because, he was secretly given love potion that he drank in his alcoholic beverage and he kind of just woke up from being hypnotized at 2:06 like he was thinking "where am I, what happened?"
Even the original Superman I and II doesnt have so depurated work speaking of the flying scenes compared with many of the scenes of this movie. Amazing work even for now, and this actress is extremely hottt!!!
Lord, how I love this goofy movie... Make no mistake, it's full of flaws and overly silly moments, but the comedy works really well when it works such as him hitting his head on the tractor after he says 'I love you'... the scene just keeps going...the wonderfully hammy performances by the supporting cast highlight the strong and effective acting of Helen Slater in the title role, the effects were outstanding for the time and still hold up well today, and the score is simply amazing and memorable by Jerry Goldsmith... A wonderful film from the 80s that I still enjoy to this day
This film has been unfairly trashed over the years. Of course, it has its flaws, but it also has a charm to it, and thanks to the engaging sincerity of the lead actress, Helen slater, it is still entertaining to watch today. The first two Christopher Reeve Superman films and this one, all three produced by Alexander and Ilya Salkind, are probably the best three of this Superman series. These films (especially Supergirl) have a light-hearted tone, but the story is taken seriously and usually doesn't degenerate into camp (although Faye Dunaway and Brenda Vaccaro are pushing the limits here). There is a wholesomeness to both Christopher Reeve (RIP) and Helen Slater that is very appealing, and their performances are what makes these films hold up well and stand the test of time. Also noteworthy are the "organic" special effects (i.e. no CGI) such as Supergirl learning to fly in the woods - a real actress suspended on invisible wires. Although some might criticize these effects as primitive, I think that when done well (as they are here) they achieve a charming realism that is sometimes absent in the elaborate CGI sequences we see in more recent superhero films. People forget that the original Christopher Reeve Superman movie was groundbreaking because the only significant film version of Superman at that point had been the serial films from the 1940s and the George Reeves TV show from the '50s. The producers at that time were taking a big chance in releasing a major film version of what was considered a juvenile comic book character. It could be argued that the Salkind Superman films are the reason adult audiences take superhero films seriously today. Thanks, Alexander and Ilya.
@@quiver5756 Music was awesome and still is. Jerry Goldsmith was the John Williams of this movie's music. I've always loved Christopher Reeve's Superman movies, but I find it implausible that Superman can conceal his identity under the guise of Clark Kent because they look so similar. Whereas Supergirl and Linda Lee really physically come across as two entirely different persons, it's baffling that they're played by the same actress. And Helen Slater is incredibly charming in her dual role, she really embodies her character. Big kudos to her and the make-up artists and hairdressers! 👍👍👏👏
You know a movie is good when you ask yourself "how did they do that"? anyone know how they made the part where she goes through the water tank? We know she is hanging from cables but the way she crashes into it and comes from the other end looks so smooth and .... real
It's most likely a model of her made to look like it's flying through in post production, production prob carved a whole in the actual tank, it might've been rigged that way since they built the set used here at Pinewood Studios.
The would go the whole mile with these effects back then. I think miniature replica capture edited in between reels probably mixed in with "blue screen" or on a cinema screen in studio minus the real water tank replaced with replica overlayed. If i am right. I liked SFX back then many factors are involved craft and design and CGI but I think C&D was stronger than computer imagery then, now it's 85% CGI the 15% is the costumes.
@alanfrost75 That's something that I was confused about as to why Supergirl had to flood the water out of the water tower when she could have just used her power breath to put out that fire even if she was far away she could have still used her power breath.
Las escenas de vuelo de ésta película son más reales que todas las películas y versiones de Superman...¿Por qué? Porque utilizan mucho los cables para sostener en el aire a Helen y muy poco los efectos de vuelo con pantalla verde..
Supergirl in her identity of Linda Lee sure got confused when the guy she saved gave her a kiss while unaware that he was under a witch‘s spell and that she wanted him.
@azurerainbow4637 Yes, the moment Ethan told her that he loves her, she gave a confused look and when he was talking to her, she kept backing away. However, I think she was acting like that because, she didn't want to get fully attached to him or anyone since she was only on Earth temporarily to be on a mission to find the Omegaheddron to return back to her planet of Argo City. Plus in a later scene she told him that she doesn't know him which is another reason why she's backing away. It's not like Superman because his planet of Krypton was destroyed and he had to consider Earth as his home since one of his nicknames is "The Last Son Of Krypton" (his other nicknames are "Superman", "The Son Of Jorel", and "The Man Of Steel") where he could feel that he could have a life with Lois Lane since on the second film he sacrificed himself as a superhero just to marry Lois but then felt he had to go back to being a superhero because General Zod was taking over Earth. For Supergirl here, her planet was still around but only needed the Omegaheddron to fully power her planet. However, Ethan did find out that Supergirl and Linda Lee are the same because on a beach scene, as Supergirl she kissed him realizing she was Linda Lee and at the end as she was flying back to Argo City, he looked up with sadness saying, "goodbye Linda" and then walked away like he was thinking "time to get back to my job as the groundskeeper at the girls school." Regarding the witch's spell, Selena wasn't really a witch, she was just a regular human being but only had magic powers because she had the Omegaheddron with him and once it was taken away from her, she lost all her powers.
