    Great soldiers, pragmatic, professional and lethal. Worked with South Africans (Afrikaans) over the years in different parts of the world, friendly, funny and loyal. Not to mention the sacred cultural event ... the Braai. Good folk.

      Are you sure all the South Africans you met were Afrikaners. As English speaking white South Africans also exist.

      @@solsouth Hey Commando do you think I live under a rock? Of course I know that English speaking white South Africans exist (WTF?). Reference my comments, the white South Africans I worked with in Colombia and Pakistan sure as hell were old school Boer-Afrikaans and proud of that fact (pretty clannish as well). They spoke English with that thick accent and used a lot of Afrikaans on the radio. I have known a couple of Rhodesians too. Not my intentions to offend or hurt feelings my friend.

    Excellent, was in D Squadron myself '83 - '84, ended up at 61 Mech, but recognise a few of the buggers from basics in Bloem.

    I'm Rhodesian and was in Rhodie war.....Respect to you guys, we could have held on with your armourments, our joint forces and leadership, but politicians cooked the cat as usual and now both countries are, well just look for yourselves. Such a waste of human lives and hard work. OH, forgot to mention SA rat packs please, ours were terrible.

    Jeez I remember that deurgangs kamp/transit camp when i flew out on the Flossie a few times from Grootfontein.
    The bogs was shaped in an L with about 10 or so seats on each side with water pushing the shit under you along the L. All open-no walls etc.
    I could never shit there and would keep it in until the AFB.
    Food there was shit plus no one was allowed out the camp.
    My experience was 87/88

    at 11.40 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what memories !!!!! 10 Pantser... the murals !!!!!!!!!! I was based for 18 months just around the corner at the KG Hokke at Sector 10 Oshakati attached after SpesMagte HQ VTH (failed) then 3 SAI Potch for completion basics then rest of 18 months Sector 10 .... serving with at that time LT Chis Nel... we had 4 Casspirs and looked and went out on patrol with 101 RM and Koevoet teams with our ET's (Ex-Terrorists).... sad day eventually came when COMOPS commandeered our Casspirs... fok !!!!!!!!!!!
    Driehoek !!!!!!!!!!! just around the corner where we had some good times....

      @@HistoricMilitaryInterviews I was just watching again and thinking out loud... how do they remember all the details? times dates peoples names....man i spent 18 months straight at Oshakati based at the KG Hokke (POW camp) with Chris Nel - our 4 casspirs were callsigned Charlie November until ja eventually COMOPS got our casspirs.... but we had 2 whites per casspit and the rest of our troops were all ET's Ex-Terrorist... I remember the Noddy Cars coming into our camp a few times mostly at night.... We use to supply our turned terrs on OPS with teams such as the Romeo Mike Teams and Koevoet a lot .... BUT I was there after failing selection at Swartkoppark VTH Spesmagte then volunteerd to spent 18 months continuous at Sector 10.... assigned to Internal Intelligence.... now im almost 58 - i treasure these stories incredibly but realize bloody hell MCEwan your memories are vague !!!!!!!!!! I knew SWAPO backwards at the time as that was my job, we were living with 200-400 ex FAPLA / SWAPO terrs permanently - even oit in the bush into Angola for weeks with an old FAPLA dude who i trusted fully - out with Koeveoet or 61 Mech picking up caches or arresting political commisars... The normal troepies did not like us as we never pulled any parades or guard duty, wore what we chose and same on weaponry carried what we wanted... hell even the RSM of Sector 10HQ would pull into our camp just to chill and not be strekked all the time... Proud of what you doing here - if u offered membership I would happily pay to help you do more

      Why would Germans be interested in a war that happened some 40 years ago and in which they had no involvement?

    • @rgdressler2046
      @rgdressler2046 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      History does not seem to be your strong point. There is a big connection going back to the Anglo-Boer war, where start of the fate of the whole world had been determined (two lost world wars). Too much for a small TH-cam comment space. No offense meant.
