Thank you guys for your stories, it still feels like yesterday for me being in the Army when you speak. Listening to the stories I form this mental picture and when you talk about a truck, SAMIL or Bedford I can smell the diesel and till this day I can smell the rain in the air and what it smelled like after a rainstorm. Thank you for what you guys did, what you made work and making it successful for everyone. I hope you guys realize that you saved a lot of lives and for that you have my respect by putting up your hand to go do a job very few would.

Frank was a good mate. He slept a few beds away from me during basics. I am in contact with his niece, Twonita. I was also part of a tour to the Smokeshell battlefield last year, where a monument was erected in their memory. Watch my legacy video on the visit to Smokeshell

Great recollectiom as a founding member too, but you old toppies didnt pass maths as we were about 18 that passed selection. Then 2 officers sent big war letters to their families and they were RTUd i.e. Dave Ledrle and Theo? Dahl that ended in less teams and in mid 79 Theuns Marais and Piet Nortje opted out so we were down to about 6 teams. This obviously carried a much bigger workload on the rest of the teams. Theuns , at least came back to join us in the failed snatch ops at Dirico. Two weeks later it was Savati. Fitzy, thanks for correcting the 900 to 1 kill rate which ment that we walked into a brigade everytime. Unconfirmed source estimate we we had a 80% success of 32 and 32 had a 80% success in Sector 10. Once again we couldnt have achieved that without that forged bond and we couldnt have done that without our camaradas. They are still around and its time they also tell their stories. Just my few cents and sense.

Men of honour and a patriotic sense of duty. Almost old fashioned concepts and relics in our current context. Colonel Frans Fourie and his comrades make me feel so proud to have also served, in a lesser capacity, although an unfair comparison. Hulle was ONS manne en sal altyd wees. Unique sense of humour Frans - infectious!

Was Mossie Basson crazy about diving and spearfishing? Or maybe I am thinking about another Mirage pilot.
