Descendants 2 Movie Description:
When the pressure to be royally perfect gets to be too much for Mal, she returns to the Isle of the Lost. She discovers that Uma, the daughter of Ursula, has taken over as queen, and that her gang is finalizing plans to bring down the barrier.
Descendants 2 is an American musical fantasy television film. Uma is one of the best Disney Channel villains ever. China Anne McClain nailed this role and carried the movie. And "What's My Name" is one of the catchiest villain songs. It's taken up permanent residence in my head.
I swear every song China has done for Disney has some kind of magic in it. There's another one she's done called, "Calling All The Monsters" that stays on repeat for me during the month of October. She was like only 12~? or so singing that and it has a similar chokehold on me like Thriller.
Btw the guy who plays hooks son, was dating dove Cameron during filming that’s why there was that energy with them

The difference between Zendaya and China’s direction was China was doing a lot of Tyler Perry projects as well while being in Disney. And she also wanted her sisters included in more Disney projects with her at the time.
(Singing wise, China’s and her sister’s voices are way ahead. They were honestly supposed to be where Chloe& Halle are) but they could never get the schedule together. Every time one finished a project another had just started one lol
All 3 have done some great shows( Meet the Browns, Black Lightning, Empire, Step Up, 911 Lone Star)
They all guest started in Chinas show Antfarm as a singing group on Disney channel

18:42 Remember those blonde triplets who were ALWAYS following Gaston around in the movie? I just figured that one of them was Gil's mother and that he takes more after her than he does after his dad.
He has two brothers so I kind of figured that Gaston had one child with each of the triplets so they're brothers and cousins.

I haven't read the books but because I read and write fanfiction in the Descendants universe I'm vaguely familiar with a lot of the book characters.
All I know about the brothers is they are older, they're twins, their names are (ridiculously) Gaston Jr. and Gaston the 3rd 🤦 and they aren't nice to Gil 😭

25:40 I think she has trust issues - and her life so far has taught her that no one is going to give you anything, you have to take it. She'll trust no one but her crew and help no one but her crew.
That too, and also one of the main reasons I think she rejected his offer is because he is part of the reason she and all her people/islanders are in that situation in the first place. Like his father might be the one who put the order but when he turned king he also did nothing to help, apart from the main 4, and just forgot about the others.
Not even thinking on how to make their experience in the island at least more comfortable, if he didn't want to call all descendants to Auradon all at once. You can clearly see that a lot are living in proverty and barely scraping by, so they are kind of forced to bully eaxh other for the limited resources they have; continuing, in a way, the "villainry"

Astonishing reaction!!! You’ve just witness the powerful vocals of Uma daughter of Ursula the Sea Witch played by China Anne McLain. Her mom is a cecaelia, half human half octopus. Now while you might be questioning Uma’s motives in the end credit scene, she did have point about the Isle. Their parents made their choice, and the VKs got punished for it. As Ben said it perfectly that she’s just an angry girl with a bad plan. And the she’s no different than when Mal came to Auradon. The truth is that Uma only wants fairness for the VKs, for them to have the chance to become something better in Auradon. I really can’t wait for Descendants 3!!!

I don't think it's an unpopular opinion, but I also don't think the McClains want that level of attention. They seem to keep to themselves and keep a low profile even when they're working on projects. Also, Halle and Chloe get so much unnecessary, negative attention that they don't deserve.

To be fair, in the first Descendants movie, Mal putting a love potion on Ben was how she initially got him in the first place - she stole him from another girl, Aubrey. This act of manipulation and deception is not something to be glossed over or forgotten. Imagine if someone came into your life, disrupted your relationship with your significant other, and stole them away from you. It's not something that would be easy to forget or forgive.
Furthermore, when Uma puts a love potion on Ben in the second movie, it's not like Mal didn't do the same thing to him. She essentially forced him to fall in love with her without his consent or understanding of what was happening. So, it's hard to see why everyone is so upset about Uma's actions when Mal did the exact same thing to Ben.
In my opinion, Ben has better chemistry with Evie. Their relationship would have made more sense because they share similar values and interests. Mal clearly doesn't want to be a queen and is struggling with her destiny, whereas Evie is ambitious and wants to make a difference. They could have worked together to create a positive impact on Auradon, rather than being stuck in a codependent relationship that doesn't serve either of them well.
Mal's character development would have been more compelling if she had ended up alone or with Jay, who shares her desire for freedom and independence. This would have allowed her to focus on her own goals and aspirations, rather than being tied down by a romantic relationship. It's not necessary for every Disney movie heroine to be in a romantic relationship - sometimes being strong and independent is enough.
Disney often does disservice to its female characters by making them overly dependent on men. Evie is a great example of this - she's smart, caring, empathetic, and kind. She would have been a much better fit for Ben than Mal, who struggles with these qualities. Evie would have taught Ben valuable lessons about being more selfless and less selfish, while Ben would have taught her about the importance of taking risks and being bold.
Additionally, Evie would have honored her homeland and never forgotten where she came from. She would never have done anything to hurt anyone or compromise her values for the sake of a romantic relationship. Instead, she would have worked hard to protect both the Isle of the Lost and Auradon.
The color palettes of Evie and Ben also complement each other well - blue and gold are beautiful together! They would have made a stunning couple that would have inspired many young viewers. Ultimately, I think Evie would have been an excellent queen and would have brought out the best in Ben as well.
I thought Evie was the best, under used tremendously.
Uma came off very generic to me, but so did Mal. 🤷 If you ever saw a series called "Victorious," Uma gave me Jade vibes. Maybe it's the teal hair color that makes me think that... 🤔
