Very impressive what such a small camera can achieve! Audio quality is definitely worse than your regular content though.
To be honest, that 4k lens looks more like a 480p lense right out of the box while riding.
I think he had an issue at editing/exporting the video, the whole video is rather low quality in resolution...
Why does the action camera footage have so bad compression artefacts? Is that how it leaves the camera?

My big question is is the 4k lens as good as a GoPro 10. I understand this camera is more versatile over-all with its 360 mode....but does that come at a sacrifice to the normal "action" set up?
Hmmmm I like the while idea of the modular camera thing. But there is no way that the 4k footage is 4k, it still looks soft and 'grainy' -- I have multiple action cameras -- one being an older Go Pro Hero Session 4, SJCam M10 & Elephone REXSO Explorer K 4K and they shoot better 1080/4k footage even when im moving at higher speeds
I think the camera is putting too much effort into doing some post processing in the background while recording which is resulting in the shoddier image quality. maybe a software update will fix that. stabilisation and audio quality is really good though.

Incredibly expensive considering they only sell China direct and may be subject to import duties. I like the concept, but for nearly $1000 all in I'm going to need better image quality.

Just bought a Hero 10 watching your videos. How's the image quality between the 4K lens and the 360 lens and how does it compare to the Hero 10? Plus does it have a flat image profile?
I have a feeling that insta camera is going to outperform the GoPro.

I have the previous version and love it, I like the new case design on this one
I’ve been using the previous version, the One R for ages in my videos and love the extra dimensions it adds to the videos. When you combine it with a mic pack, you can actually record audio and with the selfie stick out front, it enables you to have the aspect of someone filming you from the front and be able to talk to the camera. I’m a big fan and glad you can integrate the new modules with the old camera. The audio on this one is vastly improved on the previous model. Which will help sync the audio easier with my editing software.

You hit the nail on the head about image stabilization being available in mirrorless cameras. There's no reason they can't have it. The same goes with cell phones. There's no reason they can't really do the same.
It's basically about sensor size. The smaller the sensor the better the in body stabilization can be. I have not tested, but the latest phones have pretty good stabilization, may be a bit worse than action cams because of their size limitations. Most mirrorless cameras have much larger sensors allowing them to have better ISO performance, bokeh and data readout as well as a few other advantages.

Hey Francis, Insta360 have just sent me one of these cameras as well; I’m Looking forward to using it. Thanks for the tip about the wind muff on the case. Did you also know that in addition to the flow state stabilisation there is also an horizon levelling feature for the 4K lens? It’s pretty hidden away in the app so it’s not easy to find.

just been looking at the email insta360 sent me, bit pricey all in £800, and to be fair I was expecting a new form factor - still nice footage but will hold out to see what the other camp release come September time.

Nice, but I will stick to my Garmin Virb Ultra 30 cameras and Virb 360. The eco system of Ant+ with the sensor recording and remote start stop is too good
I like that they developed their own inegrated battery. We can be out on our bicycles for several hours at a time. Using a USB power bank can be clumsy, but it is what I had to resort to.
I think that when the sport camera market was originally studied, they had a customer in mind that was taking very short clips, instead of long continuous video. It's good to see more versatility.

Im planning to buy myself a road bike, but my budget can only go so far. I cant buy a hydraulic disc brake, so would you recommend a mechanical disc brake over a rim brake?

How is the image stabilisation when mounted directed to the handlebar? Does it keep up with a GoPro? Or at least somewhat keep up?

Nice piece of kit action cameras have come a long way since I bought my first one it was crap. Yes Lawrence does like his invisible selfie stick, and it does make for interesting view point.

Can this be used for selfie's/piece to camera? Or any shot to replace hand held while riding. I always feel it's not a good look holding the camera whilst riding, applies to many bloggers.
Yes, but you need a separate way to record the audio as the mic is really far away. I use a Tascam DR10 and lavalier mic and the audio is faultless and relatively easy to sync up I’m the editing software.
That's not 4k. Stick to the GoPro. Pretty sure I've seen better video quality from a cell phone.
There was probably an issue at exporting the video, the whole video is low quality/blurry, I doubt it's just the camera....

The quality of the video is disturbingly bad even when I set in 4k.... given even the writings in the video are blurry I suppose there was some kind of issue at editing/exporting...
It really is off putting, have you tried the camera yourself?
