  • I recently made a video, link below, about "Ford 3.5L Ecoboost Cam Phaser Rattle/ The noise, The cause, The fix". This video has gotten many views so naturally a lot of questions were asked. I made this video in response to those questions and I also made this video in light of new experiences that I have had with this particular failure with the Ford 3.5L Ecoboost. One great question I've gotten often is, "can just ignoring the rattle and not getting it fixed cause severe engine damage?". I've also gotten questions about, "work arounds", or alternatives to replacing the cam phasers. And I have also gotten comments stating that by just putting the vehicle in "clear flood mode" you can avoid the noise and drive the vehicle indefinitely. In this video I give my take on these issues....
Here is a great video by Ford Boss Me explaining an alternative means of fixing this cam phaser rattle: • 3.5L Ecoboost Cold Sta...
Note: I may have misspoken when I said that these pre oiler systems keep the oil pressure from diminishing. I believe that they just prime the system before start up. Here is a link to Master Lubes website: www.masterlube.net/home.htm
Here is a link to the video I made concerning the "rattle upon start up". I go into detail of how these phasers fail and even take the phasers apart : • Ford 3.5L Ecoboost Cam...

I have a 2013 3.5L and it started out with the rattle on start up, then untreated I lost all power at lower RPMs and lower gears. Dealership said $4000 to replace phasers or drive it into the ground. That was 3 years ago. As of last week… the rattle is now permanent as long as the engine is running and speeds up as the RPMs increase.

Soo there is a recall that your supposed to do which is just some programming but if the noise has already started than you need to replace the cam phasers.

I’m curious, is it generally the bank 2 intake phaser that you see as the one going out? I ask because that was the one that was failing for me. Luckily I replaced them quickly and didn’t have this happen

Now that you mention it yes. But really on both sides but yes the intake phaser.

Great video, question what's the price for the fix, and where are you located? Thanks.

I think it’s ford problem they designed this engine it sounds to me like the oil is leaking down. I remember the old engines lifters would leak down and the rattle like this.they need to put a better oil pump in these engines after all they designed them.
