He'll do it next year in the isl without this suit. He just keeps getting better and better. Huge credit to him, incredibly humble and always learning
He is one of those swimmers (like Phelps) that this suit doesn't do much for him since he is already buoyant (long torso, short legs, long upper body)
On the suit he mentions buoyancy multiple times. Do you think this would be noticeable to a mere mortal going longer at a slow steady pace, or is it the high speed? I’m thinking about a speed suit as an alternative to neoprene buoyancy shorts (that really gives a me false sense of confidence).
@@jm6734 especially if you’re swimming distance. Also, I may need one because I’m 5 percent body fat, and exactly 60% of my body is legs, so I’m by no means an ideal body for a swimmer, but can swim a 23.5 for a 50. 😂
@@waterglass7075 you don’t know what 5% body fat is. That is a borderline insane value that literally a handful of athletes can maintain. Unless you are one of them xD

Caeleb is the best swimmer, so a joy to watch! After seeing numerous interviews and a video of his wedding, he is a super nice person, who I always wish the best for in swimming and life!!

I went 57.7 (100m) in 25 meters pool during practise and also i got 23.9 on 50m (25m pool) during a competition

I think this highlights how important the environment of competition is. Plus the suit favours the bigger guys on top of the water. Dressel is the quickest guy UNDER WATER which is why he is so good short course
He can go sub 20. He needs to race with that suit multiple times so he can get used to it and then he will break 20.
I wish they would've got him a suit that would fit him. It's still incredible to see him go that fast after so many weeks of training and tapering so I'm not too surprised, would've been cool to see him swim something else rather than a 50 SCM Free because that's probably one of the worst events for him to do.

these suits are basically body compression socks designed to streamline everything. He's amazing and, like he says, the man makes the suit not the other way around.

These suits are so astronomically different. Without days of training and stroke modification you will not swim faster.
His wrist bends like crazy during the pull. I wonder if he sometimes ends up overdoing that because it makes him feel like he's pulling faster. A similar thing can happen with certain high-drag body positions, where the feeling of water hitting certain parts of your body faster makes you feel like you're going faster, when actually it's slowing you down. If you felt no drag, you wouldn't feel fast...
Yes I noticed that too, about 45 degrees into the pull the wrist angle changes just slightly. I notice that the movement of the arm is directed towards the exit of the pull. The physics of it all make me think that with a slightly longer application of power through stability on the wrist might get him the 0.4 he needs, however, the extra power application could negatively impact the turnover rate. I would be super interested to hear someone like Dr. Alan Wrigley comment on this.

I've never been in the Splash! Pool, but I grew up in La Mirada & took swimming lessons in the La Mirada Regional Park Pool before Splash! took its place. Sure looks great!

Actually looks like it’s hurting Caeleb in the 50. I imagine it’ll help in longer events, but Dressel said it, it floated him up when he wanted to stay with his underwaters.
why is he doing two 25m laps instead of one 50 meter lap?
Maybe it was symbolic, 20 years, 2020, 20 seconds. A 50m leg is slower, they would be targeting 21s. (Also, a lap is two pools’ length or “legs”)

Beware of using full body suit even randomly like that cause it can fuck up your whole approach of your technique, the way you move efficiently in the water without it with textile suit. Technique is something that can take many years to set and adjust to perfection or near it, and much less time to screw it up, it's not a thing to play around if you wanna stay consistent at the highest level the longest time possible.
Edit : nothing to do with what I wrote above but this full body suit is oversized on Caeleb, it can be seen by all the abnormal little creases and pleats, it should be all smooth and tight instead like on Beizel.
Agreed, but I think they gave him an oversized suit to decrease the pressure on his shoulders as first time shoulder strap suit wearers tend to struggle with the extra resistance

What I don't understand is why Speedo is promoting a suit that was banned from competition in 2009. Are they lobbying FINA to rescind the rule against buoyant suits so that they can sell them? The mandate for textile suits is something I firmly agree with, and swimming has evolved to the point where those 2009 Frankensuit records are due to fall because of improvements in training and technique.
History is going to be made. Come in it’s a commercial.

Get this guy tapered and in the suit he’d easily go sub 20. Didn’t look like he was wearing the suit high enough to be honest, it’s not meant to have wrinkles around the hips.

The suit doesn’t do much for skinny guys. It makes a huge difference for people like me who are short and stocky as it helps our legs float better and helps us exacerbate our power. When I was 14 I went 102 in the 100 breast in 2009 it took me until 2011 to break a minute. I would’ve been a low 50s breastroker if they kept the suits. Really depends how you’re built. Not saying the suit was an excuse for me to swim slower but to not get back to your best time as an eighth grader as a freshman was psychologically difficult. The suits made a lot of swimmers who they are and many wouldn’t be Olympians without them. Over 12 years later there are still super suit records that will never be broken. Looking back, I wish they never existed.

Give him the suit Cesar Cielo had and he will immediately beat WR in 50 and 100 m freestyle.
The suit is magic. The world record is 20.91 and he beat it in the first run. I hope that this suit will be banned in races.

It is banned in competition. Cielho set the WR in a 50m pool.
It's not possible to take a time in that relaxed condition. In ISL he made 20.16 because of there was a title and he raced against a lot of important swimmers like Florant Manadou. If he swim in that suit against Florant Manadou i think he will be more motivated because is not the suit that make the time of the swimmer but the swimmer and the training that make the time... I'm shure he can beat the 20s GO DRESSEL💪💪
