I don’t know how I stumbled across your videos, I sure am glad I did, excellent job my friend, giving me great ideas for the cold Canadian winter that’s on its way.👍🇨🇦
Well, thank you very much. I really appreciate your positive and kind feedback. I appreciate you watching my video. Maybe I’ll continue making some of my own music. Thanks again.
Thanks for the positive feedback. I appreciate you watching my video. I provide extensive formulation training on my various mixes with my online Dvd training course and my hands on classes
Your videos are great! As somebody who has always wanted to make a ton of stuff out of concrete and hasn't had the space before but does now - it'd be really helpful to have clear instructions about what is in each mud mix you're using throughout each video, even if it's just in the notes after :D Don't stop making these, they're so helpful!
Thanks for your positive feedback. I really appreciate you watching my video. You might want my 15 day synthetic rock DVD training course. Check out the bronze package on my website. www.fauxrocktraining.com
Being an electrician, the only thing I'd change is that I'd build this to house a cheap, replaceable solar light inside the rocks & completely cut out the numbers so they can be backlit at night. :)
Thank you so much for sharing this. I just finished my attempt and while it isn't near as good as yours, it does the job and looks pretty good. Thank you again.
WOW ... WOW WOW EXCELLENT VIDEO You are so SMART and so Talented.... INGENIOUS... please no background music needed Remember... all we need and want is to HEAR YOU TALK...
Mike, another great video. I like the mixed format and great time lapse editing (your Piano skills are improving 😉). Thank you for sharing the paint mix tips, explaining each step and ratios. This is great home and garden improvement content an thanks again!
Love this! I need to put new lot # out front on both my lots. This will look great and then do some big rocks - I want a fire pit too in between my two lots somewhere. :-) Using blocks or rocks (real ones) :-) Thanks loads. Now if I can just get my material gathered. Oh yeah.
This may just be the project that gets me started in faux rock making! Love, love, love it!! In one of your future videos, can you address the clean-up process? How do you dispose of the extra concrete?
Well, thank you very much for your positive feedback. I appreciate you taking your time to watch my video. My objective is always to mix the right amount of cement, but if I do have a little extra, I have a mold that I put the mud in and eventually it gets filled thus not wasting any Cement. Thanks again.
What would you suggest to seal this if i wanted to integrate this into a fountain for my mailbox. What would make it hold water at the bottom without it leaking/absorbing
There are a lot of ways to create water tight characteristics. I generally use a Hydro seal coupled with 100% acrylic sealer‘s. Both are available on the market by several manufactures.
I love these videos of yours... but can I use these faux rocks in Seattle where it is very very wet? That is my main concern. Thank you for your artistic and clever videos!
Thank you very much for the positive feedback… I really appreciate you taking your time to watch my video. Yes, these rocks can be utilized in Seattle. Your weather is just like mine here in Oregon.
@@fauxrock I work in this industry as well but I always pick up different techniques (tips and tricks) by watching other artisans. Thanks for the good work and transparency.
I've watched many of your videos, so apologies if I've missed it. I'm sure you have a video explaining what your mud consists of, although I think there was some confusion over the fibres used? I'm assuming it's just regular chopped (fibreglass) fibres? As for the paint you use, is it just regular latex paint, and for inside or outside use? I'm further assuming the colour is locked in when you use sealer, and to that end regular concrete sealer? This is the part I'm wondering about most - what type of climate do you have there? I'm not aware of your location, but the green environment suggests to me you are somewhere that can be quite wet at times and probably very cold during winter? Do you have any issues with the paint you use? Thanks in advance.
I use a lot of different formulation throughout the videos that you’ve watched most the time I’m using just regular mortar mix from Lowe’s or Home Depot because that’s what most of the viewers from TH-cam are going to be able to get hold of. I do use stronger mixes that I have formulated proprietarily that I only offer to people who go through one of my different training courses. It’s always best that you use 100% acrylic paints not the latex because the sealer can burn it very easily. You were right thinking that once you put the sealer on you like the colors in and you lock out any other thing being able to further stain the rock a different color. Thanks for watching my videos. I do appreciate it.
As far as Weather goes, I have had rocks that we made for years in the south west very hot temperatures very dry. I’ve also been in the north east, and the north west where we have moisture and freeze thaw issues to deal with but all of the formulations with the processes you’ve seen on, TH-cam are working fine without issue again I started making rock features back in 74 and then in 89. I started doing artificial rock, so this isn’t something I just started yesterday it’s tried, true and tested. Thanks again.
@@fauxrock Thanks for your reply and information. We have ready mixed cement/concrete here, but I always prefer to mix my own to achieve the desired consistency. It's interesting to learn that you use acrylics, rather than latex. Over here, we call it emulsion paint, but from many videos I've watched over the years, I know your latex is our emulsion. I have made a few faux rocks in recent years, and have used a stamping method with silicone texture mats (mainly volcanic moulds I took in the Canary Islands), plus black release powder so as to avoid the concrete sticking to the mats, and to leave a dark residue to highlight the texture. I have also made a couple of 5ft Easter Island heads, and aim to make some Egyptian type items - no idea what yet! I have sealed them with waterproofing liquid and, like you, have not had any problems from freeze/thaw. We have freeze/thaw here too, but maybe not on the same scale as in your northern states. We may have below freezing temps for 7-14 days each winter, but most of the time our winter temps are around 5-10 degrees (centigrade - 40-50 Fahrenheit), with highs of mid 30s (again, centigrade - mid 90s Fahrenheit), although most years we get late 30s for a few weeks, but average summer temps are around mid 20s (around 80 Fahrenheit). That is here in the South East of England - up North is cooler and wetter. The big problem with mine is the weight - although I note from some of your videos, yours can be heavy too. I guess it's the nature of construction. Keep the videos coming as I really enjoy them.
Thank you for your positive feedback. I do appreciate you watching my video. Yes, I do sell custom-made items as well as rock and stone panels to construct any type of a feature you have in mind to do
