Very cool!! Glad you're sharing your love of history with your son 'Eagle Eyes'...I've always done the same, but my little boy is 29yo now.
My father was a Combat Veteran of WWII. Dad was a flightline engineer and mechanic on the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt and he was on Guam, Tinian, Saipan and Iwo Jima in the South Pacific Campaign. Luckily my children were old enough to hear dad's stories of being in WWII before we lost him in 2006 at 88yo.

The tunnels off to the sides of the main tunnel could have been ammunition magazines for the coastal guns

I believe those tunnels should be still open and preserved for people to explore and appreciate and learn of everything that happened during ww2

That is one huge set of tunnels! I wonder why they made them so tall and wide? What in the world did they need so much space for if they were using them to transport materials? Did they drive trucks through these tunnels? Thanks for crawling into the secondary tunnel, I just thought for sure you were going to come across some interesting old materials! i am a bit confused myself regarding the size but i do think they ran truck through it to build more stuff on the other side of the mountain and so neede it to be that big plus they also built huge gun positions near the cost and i guess they needed to be tall to get them as well through there. What an interesting system, I have a feeling that shaft was for bringing ammunition up to a gun position. We'll find out when you find the guns? Thank you and EE for taking us along. Can't wait to see what else is there.

Now this is a tunnel, I understand if there have been accidents why the side adits were sealed but it is still a shame. Thinking the one adit with the bar in the roof may have been had a hoist. The spray material is more than likely gunite, it is dense and hard but can be broken like concrete because it is basically concrete, sand and water sprayed on with high pressure system. Used in tunnel lining, we use it to 3D print concrete buildings. Fantastic tunnel system in hard rock. Well done both of you. Stay well and safe out there.

Must have been SECRET if they had to cement some of the tunnels up. I know you don't divulge your locations and I respect that but if you're far enough north ( you and EE ) is it possible they ( the Germans ) might have stored something from their heavy water experiments in Norway in this site? You have certainly raised my curiosity and I'm sure others as the view this adventure. Looking forward to further ones. Until then be safe, be CAREFUL and stay healthy. Fascinating, absolutely fascinating. Would love to know what is hidden behind those sealed up walls. That vertical shaft reminds me of an airshaft into a mine I once visited. At the top of the shaft was the air pumping station, extracting air from the mine, which created a fresh air flow into the mine. I wonder if this shaft served the same purpose? It's in the right spot. Just about the middle, where you need it, since long tunnels, and especially, side tunnels, tend to get very, very, stuffy without a decent air flow. What an amazing set of tunnels. This is what I love about our HH Team. You always manage to bring us these mysteries, that spark our imagination, and curiosity. Cheers my friends! Stay Safe!

I remember when when stationed in Germany in the 80's you weren't allowed to inspect some of German bunkers left standing. We even chase from the fieldstrasse bunker in Hamburg.

WOW you were right HH, that German tunnel system was massive. Thank you EE and HH for taking us inside so can get an idea of what it looked like. Too bad they had to block off some of the tunnel system, but I get why it's for safety reasons. What a good catch finding the little hole in one of the closed off areas. It was just big enough for both of you to climb through. That paint on the hall was diffeent the way it deflected light - interesting. Yes, wonder if someone was able to climb up to the little hall 10 metre's up and what was in it? Definitely, BBG can scale that tunnel wall. You will have to brig BBG back with you on a return visit. Very interesting, much work put into digging out those tunnels and ammo storage units. You ARE the man EE, what would your Dad do without you. Thoroughly enjoyed that little explore. Stay safe you two. oh and I almost forgot "Hi EE"

I'm wondering what the allies hid behind those walls. What could be so important or dangerous that had to be hidden away? It had to be more than just munitions. Baffling really
But what a huge tunnel system and I too would like to see where that tunnel led going up. This is simply amazing and I can't imagine the work it took to create these tunnels. Wow! I may be very wrong but the V 2 rockets could've been fired from that deep tunnel you found, ,to think, the propulsion gave an extra boost or even a camouflage system. Anything is positive, keep up the great work guys.

@@WW2HistoryHunter Anyways, that was deep, just imagine the parts that's been sealed up or never explored, in the Chickamauga battlefield, all long time ago a cash of confederate weapons plus a few field guns were found, can you imagine finding that ? I'd love to have a complete 3 in. Ordnance Rifle w/ limber.

Am surprised that someone hasn’t broken into the sealed off tunnels. Curiosity would be the main reason for doing it. I would think any weapons or munitions would have been removed after the war. Could be that the tunnels are just dangerous.

Stunning how that tunnel was; just wondered how long it actually took them to drill them out. Bummer that the others were sealed. Curious if those would be access from the other side or have emergency exits to them??? Just a thought. On that one little area you guys accessed to, it looked like i saw a metal step that was partially pulled out and to the side(that went up to the other tunnel you couldn't get to). Would have been a whopper to get up that side and into that tunnel. Hmmm, maybe start carrying some rock climbing gear (after you learn) lol. Imagination and wonders. A small $25 walmart Drone with a WiFi camera would be cool way to get a peek.
That was a rather large tunnel., I would think it might have been one location for manufacturing since Germany had to take apart their buildings and start building everything underground. Just an Idea.

I wouldn't doubt the stories of munitions. I was at a Luftwaffe ammo depot in Germany in the 80s. Rumors of boobytrapped tunnels were very much true. Many times we recovered munitions, mortar projectiles, hand grenades from many of the buildings.

A very interesting network of tunnels. Wonder where the gold was hidden?😊 Wouldn't it be something if you were the ones to find it. Did you take that huge bolt back with you? It does look like the wagons were pulled by a cable system. Makes one wonder what is hidden behind those shut out areas? As luck would have it, you found a little hole for entry. Good work EE getting through there. Interesting to see much of the wooden scaffolding still there. That dug out hole higher up is intriguing. Will you be taking BBG back there to access it? Amazing what you can find. About 5 years ago my cousin brought me out to an abandoned rail station that dated back to 1916ish that was used by the Canadian forces of both WW1 and WW2. My initial thoughts were that it was a station for the Canadian troops preparing for overseas as a training ground for some and as a waystation for those for the west coast to travel to Halifax to depart for overseas duty in the European theatre. Now it's all potato fields .

It means down below what they were working on probably in a nuclear power facility and supply will be in really bad shape

It’s sad that there were injuries and death in the tunnels but it’s also sad that they were sealed with spray concrete it would’ve been cool if they left them open but put like a metal door at the entrance and you would need keys to open them
