I experimented on scrap fabric before watching this video, and managed to pull the stitching out easily, but had no idea how I did it! As I couldn't replicate what I did, it was YT to the rescue. I need to remember this for the next time i buy a bag of natural lump charcoal. This is how they are sewn I think.
Chain stitches are often used at the top of bags.
