Doctor Tony this video would’ve helped me this summer on my Pct hike of Oregon. I struggled some days with my Duomid
I was fiddling with a video on Durston and behind me was Chris trying to get this pitched properly and that one panel had him stuck it was funny watching him pull the mid tie out to help making it look like a wart on side of shelter 😄 so I said yes I can help then a thought struck me why not film it he was game so hey presto lol
The biggest problem I'm sure people pitch too low and that causes a lot of issues low yes if needed but not at expense of shape
And what's with this bizarre pegging our the hook from inside top of apex which you hang inner from I'm seeing that inner hook used to pitch the thing lol the world is going to pot around me lol 😆
Loads more on this and that and it vs Durston to follow
Thanks as always for watching
Better late a video like this than never 😆
@@TonyHobbs I will be doing a pct section hike this Friday. 2 night 3 day hike. Will be good to have some time on trail. Will be my new Hyperlite Unbound 2p Tent maiden voyage.
Good luck
Look forward to seeing your photos on my fb group :)
You are the king of pitching for sure .. and you did it all from the management side ie not getting your hands dirty lol
It just worked out perfectly lol
Now listen to me and you'll get it right 😆
10 years of experience really showing here lol. MLD should be hiring you lol. Great pitch and as always great video!
Thanks poop yeah I'm expecting the commission in the post by close of tomorrow 😄 glad to hear you enjoyed how were the sausages or was it a vegan breakfast 😀
@@TonyHobbs Oh god no not vegan lol. I absolutely love meat and nothing will ever change that lol. I have to say with the new thumbnails and the recent videos the quality has upped loads (not saying anything is bad with older content lol). Looking forward to the totally non biased review and showcase of the Durston lol.
Love my meat too 😋 can't imagine living like a rabbit lol but good on those that do it means more meat for me lol I'm one lucky sob a really nice guy has literally just said he'll do the thumbnails he seems to want to give me a leg up above some of the wannabes know nothing brigade lol luckily he into bikes not hiking or he might not he so accommodating lol
Hi Tony that was some excellent coaching going on there , you want to start charging LOL . VERY ENTERTAINING 👍👍
Thank you 😊 it was fun to make
The thinking man's tent 😁
Work with it and it'll hole you up like a mother's womb lol 😆
@@TonyHobbs I like to imagine the Duomid as a rectangular piece of cardboard balancing centrally on a pencil 🤔
That is about right actually very clever thinking
Subbed because this got recommended beneath a WC video which had nothing to do with pitching 🤷♂️.. but! You have no idea the uncontrollable rage I feel watching so called "experienced" people on here who simply cannot & do not know or understand how to pitch a tent/tarp/structure correctly, totally understandable if they are new to camping but 5 or 6 years in & these buffoons still haven't a clue.. rant over I'll go chech your back catalogue.
I can feel your rant and let's just immediately blame the structure when it all goes tits up without once stopping to think maybe I made an error nope I'm perfect its the structure lol
We are completely mad here and totally unique in my happy niche corner of TH-cam heaven and you're most welcome hopefully you enjoy more 😊 you have some archives to look through lol
I wish i would have seen this when i first bought my Duomid but i sussed it out after the 2nd or 3rd pitch however it now sits second place in my pyramid tent collection of 4 and at number 1 position is the HexPeak V4, its also straight forward when pitching. Downside is you have to seam seal it. I have just bought the F6 which is even more space but not had it out yet . Pyramid tents are massively under rated. PM doesn't know his arse from his elbow when it comes to tents and he only does little over night wombles not far from carparks unless he is out with Andy who knows his stuff. When he replaced his Soulo with that Rab eVent material alpine tent i stopped listening to him plus i bought a quilt after listening to his opinions about them and endeed up selling it on eBay after one camp. Note to self.... Dont listen to people with all the gear and no idea, you talk the talk and walk the walk too :)
I had to look that shelter up (I'm not so hot on tent makes and options), mmm looks similar to the GoLite Shangri La from yesteryear. I got one of those long ago but sold it as the space seemed wrong to me so never actually used it or even filmed it lol doh! A lot of these shelters are not seam sealed, the silnylon Duomid needs sealing and to be honest it is not that difficult to do and can even be done on the first camp which is what I did with my Duomid XL (vid up on that) awhile ago. Obviously time it for good weather lol They look good tents esp for the price. I guess a bit heavier than the MLD stuff... So I'd head for the Duomid XL indeed that is a very good option when the weather poor and you want a mid with a bit more room than a straight up Duomid and not the cavernous Supermid. Later in this trips videos we talk quilts ie the MLD Spirit 28 plus the bag liner and a lot on the Durston that will require several videos, stand alone plus vs Duomid. Andy does seem incredibly knowledgeable and even did a tricky trip with Scott the other day that even I'd have not made, the camp yes but not that climbing lol! Hopefully one day meet up with Andy, see if he ever up for it lol.... I'lll grant PM he has done well on YT, hopefully meet up with him one day and teach him about proper shelters and why they so much better than other tents in most situations (it is personal choice too of course but as you say pyramid tents are under rated.....I got lucky my friend was after a Duomid and up popped this one so perfect for a video esp with the Durston. He was a bit more of a tent person but since watching my videos and camping with me he has taken more of an interest in these mids and he was so cosy in the Duomid he stayed in it the second night before he went home. I think with this stuff which is a bit more bespoke you need to understand it, why it is and who it is aimed at and if your audience might be tent people then explain to them why this is better or different or is what it is etc. Food for thought to self there lol Thank you for your comment and watching the video.
@@TonyHobbs You are welcome Tony, i like your channel because you get out there in all weathers and man up to the elements and look genuinely happy doing it ( Obviously not a full shilling like me ).
I was lucky with my Duomid because i bought it o eBay unused and it had been factory seam sealed so you cannot even tell. I have perfected my seam sealing skills now though after my initial attempt where i thought applying it neat would be best and it looked a bit messy and very obvious that it was a DIY job. Instead i now use a white spirit mix of a slightly thicker consistency of olive oil and i use two types of artist paint brushes and do 2 thin coats over 2 days and it looks very neat and tidy and functions perfectly .
Looks better than Hilleberg Enan.Wich one you like more and why?
I'd take this ultimately due to weight saving and space inside. The enan is excellent and for a tent I like it a lot it's not got a dime on this. It really is a weight space thing. Just remember to have warm sleep system with these types of shelters but that gives more flexibility plus if weather really poor pitch this get inside and porch big enough to carefully do up door and unpack and sort everything under cover. Not so essy with smaller enan.
Are you available to show me how to put it up Tony ooh er matron . I certainly gained a few helpful tips re the bowing in bit . Top work from a pro bravo ⛺️👍
Lol I'll show you how to insert the pole into the slot 🤣 great you learned a few tips as you're pretty good yourself :) thank you 😊
Found this really helpful thanks Tony, how big do you have your walking pole , I've also just purchased the a frame so gunna give that a go soon
It's longer than regular walking poles and my black diamond goes to 135cm odd and that wouldn't be enough
I use two Pacer poles joined together in mine
I'll guess 145 to 155cm but that is a guess lol and I think closer to the second figure.
The length can vary in poor weather bit lower in good weather longer and longer lines for air flow and space. Lots more will follow on this not length lol but getting mine lower in a later video. I'm interested in the A frame thing too might help get you more central and no pole in way
Thank you for watching
I have other pitching videos up from previous trips and long ago you might enjoy or find helpful
@@TonyHobbs I just bought the alpkit carbon poles they go to 150 cm so going to test them out with it 👍👍
That should be ok
Can you let us know esp if a pole works without adjustment
@@TonyHobbs no problem tony, I also bought the carbon extender pole for the a frame, would you think I need them if my poles already go to 150cm?
To me to you, to me to you😂
Thanks for the tent loans and camping company and laughs 😃
Shove your peg in deep and hard 😆
Hi Tony, I know this has nothing to do with pitching a duo-mid but wounded if you’ve heard about these 15 minute cities that they are trying to force on us in the name of the environment?
Nope what t f is that lol
th-cam.com/video/-VH11YOwPY4/w-d-xo.html
i have sent a url of a TH-cam video about it
sorry I took so long to get back to you
Who tf only wants to walk 15 minutes lol stupid idea though as most us have that close by anyway 🙄 what break up London lol
did you say paul couldn't pitch it so he sold it🫢😄
I think he had trouble pitching it I think mainly just needed to clear cupboard and didn't get on with it preferred Durston. Plus unfortunately he had a leak in it at the start and got wet which might have put him off
I do a Durston vs Duomid and mention him again lol well we gotta do all we can to get attention lol I wish he'd liked it or asked me help or watched my videos but some told him he needed 8" lines that's too short so no wonder he struggled.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
So it’s a four sided shelter… 🧐 lol
Yup four
Not five
Certainly not 8 lol maybe ten 😅
