This has to be one of the best reviews of this tent. So many are just guys pitching it in their back garden and haven't even been out with it yet. You have a great attitude too.
Best review of this tent I've seen, from someone who's actually used it a lot, and in difficult conditions. Almost all other reviews are "first impressions" from some punter setting it up in their backyard in the summer.
Thank you so much. The clips of your tent in the high winds really helped me. I currently have an Xmid and I'm not entirely sure it will be as bold as yours in the wind. This has helped me make a decision.
Thanks, I'm happy my videos helped you make a decision... a very important one. Most of us don't buy tents all the time so we better get it right! If you were referring to the Durston X-mid then very likely the Duomid will be more stable in high winds because of the X-mid sides surely catching more wind than the Duomid. If you're happy with your X-mid then you can 'often' find a less exposed camp spot or re-orient the tent windward if the wind has changed directions 🙄😅 You can then donate the money saved to my channel and bla, bla... 🤓😅 Remember there's always a tradeoff 😉 Having said this, the Duomid is still my favorite backpacking tent 😎 Good luck! 😊
Great, thank you! l'm happy my video was of help. Make sure you understand that it'll take some time until you 'master' the pitching. l've always followed MLD 'instructions' and that works for me great (see below). Sure enough, with time, you'll understand what adjustments have to be made whenever there are bumps, bushes, etc. on the ground. l'm sure you'll get there if you're patient and you enjoy the process like l did! BEST of luck! MLD Duomid -> Tent Set Up (tab): mountainlaureldesigns.com/product/duomid/
Great review and shelter mate 👍, MLD shelters are really strong for how light they are, I’ve got the Trailstar silpoly, really light and loads of space. I’ve also been looking at a duomid too, love the camo design, atb Mick 👍
Thank you! To me is the best ultralight 3 seasons tent hands down. Light like a tarp, comfortable like a free-standing tent... just great. You can also use it in winter as long as you can take your time pitching it. Check out this video if you like the Duomid, you may enjoy it (read the description if you have the time): th-cam.com/video/85GeBYYxz0k/w-d-xo.html
great review. as a new owner of a DCF green duomid its interesting to see other views and how they align to my own. Overall a superb tent for all conditions. thanks for sharing ATB TGW
Great review, but the main thing you missed (or i missed, in that case sorry), the peg setup. I personally destroyed a couple of easton hollow stakes trying to hammer them down or stepping on them, so i've bit the bullet, took 50g weight penalty like a grown up, and use 4 20cm ti nails for corners that are 30g each, but well, they are tough. And rest of points just cheap amazon Y pegs(or just tie guylines to boulders), they hold just fine.
Thanks for your contribution. I mostly use MSR Groundhogs (12) then 3 different ones (generic brand) for the not so important mid-panel attachment points. You do well securing the 4 main corners well 😉👌🏻 It's by far the most important areas to secure.
Thanks for this interesting review. I've reached an age now where I need to lighten the load but still want a shelter with ample headroom and internal space. I've started using trekking poles so it seemed logical to go for this kind of tent. You mentioned problems with pitching but I must say I've never really had any. The crucial bit seems to be how carefully stake out the four corners to begin with. Get as near perfect a rectangle as you can and everything else seems to fall naturally into place. MLD sent a pole jack with mine which I don't really like. Fortunately I have a pair of Alpkit poles which extend to 150 cm so no problem there. Have you tried pitching with two poles? And if so do you think it makes a substancial difference to the stability in rough weather?
l'm happy you "never really had any" problems pitching the tent. Good for you. I did encountered many problems, mostly because of the terrain, especially rocky terrain and soft snow (using snow pegs) 3:00 l only take 1 trekking pole with me so l never tried a double poles pitch. The Duomid works 'for me' with just a single pole. If you pitch the Duomid properly (which is not the same as the Duomid being 'up') then stability is excellent and you won't need double poles (another thing is you want to get rid of the pole in the center, of course). In my experience, the weakest point has always been the corners tie-outs. l either broke the tie-out or the fabric near it or both (as happened this day): th-cam.com/video/85GeBYYxz0k/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared See you in the mountains!
@@alwaysforwardyt I think the reason I haven't had many problems, is because I only recently purchased this shelter, and thus far I've only pitched in places were I'm already familiar with the terrain. Previous camping spots in other words. No doubt if I'd "gone in blind" I would have had problems. Hopefully the practice I've had so far will stand me in good stead when I venture into unknown territory. Thanks for replying and all best
@@frederickridall628 Or maybe you understand the tent better than l do, go figure. l've always managed to pitch the tent with more or less trouble, and the tent always protected me and my gear. Even when it broke, it stood up until the very morning (after having coffee, don't worry 😅 This day l really struggled: th-cam.com/video/kit4yF8MY5w/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared&t=576 Thank you, all the best to you too! 😊
Hi again, just to let you know I've subscribed to your channel. It's becoming increasingly rare to find genuine content like yours. Most videos are little more than glorified adverts for whatever free gear the protagonist has been sent. Keep up the good work. Got a free day today so will catch up on more of your videos. Great! I'm happy my video was of help 👌🏻 When it comes to the POLES, for 3 seasons camping I use the Black Diamond Distance FLZ 'aluminum' and for winter (a real, full of snow winter) I use the Black Diamond Expedition 3. *2 things to notice: 1- 'Carbon' poles may crack/break: Not ideal if you need to pitch the tent with one. 'Aluminum' ones may bend, but you can still use them to pitch the tent no problem. 2- Any brand will likely do great, just make sure the poles adjust with a lever (as opposed to twisting to lock). That way is easier to position the pole in place (under the tent, when pitching) and then adjust the tension as necessary. Also, you can easily remove the pole should you need to and then easily put it back in place. As for the STAKES, because l like to pitch having great views (often windy) and l like to hike in places that are somehow remote (no help near by) l like to 'secure' my tent well. I usually take 12 MSR Groundhogs and then 3 like these: ultralightoutdoorgear.co.uk/titanium-v-pegs-4-pack/ These are just for the mid-panels (not important ones, they're mostly for comfort, not to secure the tent). I hope this helps!
I'd buy the x-therm (the winter version) instead. I so often wish l had done it from the beginning. The humidity coming from the ground is usually very unpleasant, even in 3 seasons camping at 5-8°C. No doubt a proper winter sleeping pad will be my next and most wanted upgrade. Check the Exped equivalent, I think I may go for that one. Otherwise, answering your question, more than the cold by itself, it's the humidity coming from underneath that will freeze you and make your night unpleasant. Again, that can happen even at 5-8°C...
The best review on this tent 🙂👍it covers a lot that is missed in other reviews I've seen.

I got one of the many offers from Aliexpress. I think it was $60 when l got it a while ago...
