I love it! It's one of the songs that gives me a lot of energy. Their 2019 MMA live performance for this was legendary as well. I'm excited for you to watch that too :)
The Song is J Hopes Baby, he went nuts in the production on this one, he usually only writes and composes music, but on this one he Co Produces with the In house Producer of Bighit.
A thyrsus (“TEAR-sus”) is a wooden staff topped with a pine cone. Dionysus and his followers were often depicted carrying them. If you watch the live performances of this song, RM carries one. And Dionysus is pronounced “dye-oh-NYE-sus.” I’m a Greek mythology buff and was so happy when BTS released this song. Of course, this is again a product of RM’s massive intellect and interest in Greek mythology.
Actually it's pronounced Dionisos or Thionisos and it's not d in the beginning the th is pronounced like the word "that" not "theme" for example. In Greek it's Διόνυσος. As a Greek I am impressed RM is the only one who pronounces the name correctly in the song. But I am not surprised it's RM after all the most knowledgeable person in the world.
@@pennybleta9721 In actual Greek, yes. But in American English we pronounce things a little differently. I studied Ancient Greek in college in the US and modern Greek in Greece. Oftentimes the names sound very different in the English pronunciation.
@@csong9940 Yes I was not referring how English pronounce our language I was talking about how the name is pronounced in my language. I was very impressed with RM because he actually pronounced the name like it is originally.
When I first heard Dionysus back in 2019 I wasn't sure what I thought of it. I didn't hate it, but I didn't really love it either. But after I saw them perform it on M countdown and listened to it more it definitely moved up on my list. Not to mention their performance of Dionysus during their MMA 2019 performance was mind blowing, one of the best performances from BTS of all time.
I grew up listening to Rock music and I got that feel from this song, so I loved it. It is one of my faves and they killed it with the performances of it. 💜
I really love when BTS does rock. If you enjoy more of the rock sound, "Boy In Luv" (not to be mistaken for Boy With Luv), "War of Hormone" and maybe "Danger" will do that for you. Another good one would be "Louder Than Bombs", which it would be cool to see you break down the lyrics for.
BTS always look possessed (in a good way) when they perform this live! Theyre hyped and loud and just bursting with energy! Also, the screams on the background is Jin who was grabbed by his arm on his way home and was told to just 'scream' 🤣🤣🤣 in the MOTS ONE concert he actually did it live. Music to my ears 💜
This is such a good show opener. When they opened their concerts with that it wad SO EPIC Like going this hard while saing 'drink up my art and watch as I am being reborn/the show is being born. Look how hard I worked on it, let's party"
This song's metaphors and layers -- lyrically, vocally, and in live performance -- are so stunning. I always feel transported in the best way possible! One of my favorites, and it's impossible to pick.
Maybe it will say later in this video, but I think the meaning of this song hinges on the fact that the word alcohol in Korean (sul) and art (mi sul). Are almost the same word. Dionysus being the Greek God of Wine and art, (although Apollo is the god of music). But in this song they compare being drunk to the creative process of making art, and how you can be drunk on art like you can be drunk on alcohol. The first time I heard this song I was still learning Korean and I thought it was just a song about getting drunk. Silly me! BTS has never been that shallow in their music. I should have known better.
Pronounced DI-(long I)-uh-NICE-us! MUST WATCH 2019 MMA to see BTS PERFORM WITH ABSOLUTE PERFECTION! It’s 40+ minutes but soooo worth it. Would love to see you react to it! ALL ARMY WILL!
Nothing like that at all. It's pronounced Dionisos like RM says it in the song in Greek. And the D is pronounced like the th in the word "the" for example. RM is the only foreigner I have heard pronounce the name correctly.
🤘🏼 this song grew on me - I love all of it, but especially how Jin’s voice went so high at the end. 😊❤️ Would love to hear you dissect Louder than Bombs …. That would also be interesting to hear 😊
🔥SUGA produced PSY's new title track "That That", which will be released April 29. SUGA also participated in writing lyrics, working on composition and arrangement🔥
Ahhhh all i can say is if you watch the MMA 2019 awards show, and i suggest and recommend that you would, you can never appreciate any other Dionysus performance before that! Ps: they performed 5 songs that day. Last one is dionysus, but before that actual performance of Dionysus, they have 7 intro performances. And i think it was the best live performance on an awards show EVER. They literally made the show their own concert.
They kind of have a habit of doing that, turning awards shows in BTS concerts. I don't think they do it on purpose but between the way they always bring their all on stage and massive turnout from ARMY it just ends up happening lol

I was a metalhead/rock fan before getting into bts too. I think you will absolutely love Not Today. Not Today is a single on the 2017 You Never Walk Alone album which is a repackage of their second studio album Wings. There's a MV for it as well.
I really look forward to and appreciate your reactions so much. I always come out loving & understanding the songs better! Also I took "D style" as meaning- "Dionysus style". Yes the live is a must watch. Thanks again, great work.
so fun fact I found BTS when they released map of the soul Persona. and this song is in stark contrast to the rest of the album sonically so I had no idea what to think about it. At that time I had not gotten too deep in the lyrics yet but as soon as I saw the live performance I immediately wanted to know more and completely understood it was a song written to be performed live! this is now one of my favorite BTS songs ever especially in context of understanding the themes of persona/shadow/ego. really glad you enjoyed it I thought you might it was one of the first songs I ever suggested to you whenever I first started watching your channel!
great reaction!!💜 dionysus is such a masterpiece of a song, and the way rm compared art to alcohol always blows my mind. you can get “drunk” and go crazy from both, but bts always try to stay grounded and don’t let the fame change them. it’s amazing how they implicated about their constant struggle between their ego and shadow in the persona album, even before we really got into the whole jungian psychology theme. their album series always connect in such amazing ways and their creativity never ceases to impress me! i’m so happy to follow you on your journey to learn more about them😊
some of their older music is similar in terms of sound - you should do boy in love (esp since you did boy with love already)! Some others to consider with similar sound - silver spoon, spinebreaker, jump, 2nd Grade
I love this song it is one of my favorite from "Map of the soul: Persona" album. Hmm but live it is different level like wow.... You will see when you watch it, it is great. I'm sure when I write this you arledy seen live but still have to say it 😋😉 But in concert it was song that they start the show on thier tour and it build so much energy that you feld like you would fly and it was only first song. I love this metaphor of Dionysus, and what they say about art and nature of the artist. It was great idea to compare it all to alcohol and have this party vibe but still talking about something important to them. And music is great, love instruments here. They have songs with rock vibe but I think you can count them on one hand. Soo with their music catalog it is like needle in music-haystack. "Danger" would be one of this songs. Very fun song.
Ngl I really hated Dionysus when it first came out lmao it was just not what I usually listen to. The only part I liked was Suga's but then it grew on me and at some point it became my favorite song performed live ( lowkey it still is) I think my brain wasn't able to keep up with all the instruments at first but I got there eventually lol.
Always love your lyric analyses 💜 hey, did your spring day explained get blocked or something? I remember you said you would do it, but i can't find it 🥺
Seria uma boa você ouvir as outras músicas que eles perfomaram no MAMA 2019, que aí você pode ver a performance ao vivo dessa música e das outras que teve na premiação. Essa performance é a maior de todas.
The jury is still out for me on this song. I've said before that these guys don't have a single song that isn't good...but this one isn't on my list of 'love it' songs (there are only 3 or 4 not on that list lol) I do appreciate the lyrics tho.
Thank you for watching! Do you enjoy Dionysus by BTS?

Totally recommend the 2019 MAMA performance.
😊
I was hoping this was going to be that one, but he he should react the WHOLE performance and not break it up. Bryan will LOVE it. It’s jaw dropping!
