What they wish they knew before moving to Orlando

  • How much do Orlando tolls cost? How long will it take you to get used to the weather? Is every house in an HOA? When I polled my audience on what they wish they knew before moving to Orlando, these questions and a few others were mentioned the most. Take a look and let me know which one was something you didn't know. Also, what do you think think we missed?
Are you thinking of buying or selling a home in Orlando? My team and I would love to help! Email me at info@pozekgroup.com to get started.

Love your content Ken. NY’er 52 years, Horizon West resident the last 5 years. Not one single regret. Waking up to sunshine almost every day is a great way to live. I will never miss the gray skies in the NE Nov. - March and you’re right - you do get used to the weather. Love my new home state.

I moved here from Wisconsin 4 years this month on October 29th and all it took was one year for my body of having to live with bipolar seasons, but especially extreme winters where it felt like a mixture of Canada and Antarctica out of my system for good. After that 1st year, I was happy for my body to be fully adapted to Florida weather and it's awesome. You'll never look back.

Republicans in Florida are trying to take people's rights away. They need to be voted out. Plus side of moving there haha. My blue state is doing great with more individual freedom but the costs are getting high because everyone wants to move to Colorado.

Question/Comment on tolls: Comparing, of course, to Michigan. While we don’t have toll roads, in theory we pay for it in state/local taxes. Would you say that the lack of state tax somewhat offsets the toll budget?
Incidentally, I actually do own a SunPass since I’m on the Florida Turnpike a lot to visit my mom.

Spent some time in Kissimmee and Orlando in general this year and I think it's a decent place to live. I liked how many places I could drive to from Orlando. Higher population density than Cincinnati where I'm from so that's something to get used to. I do like the Florida weather though. I don't need the seasons, had them my whole life.

NASA built Cape Kennedy where they did because of the probabilities of hurricanes hitting east vs west coast, the west happened to have more hurricanes hit the west more often.
(I can see because there tends to be a high pressure zone that hangs out just east of the eastcoast that tends to kick the hurricane clockwise and North)

In a time when the economy across the board in the whole US was at it's best early 90's. When most infrastructure was brand new and clean. Especially Fl, Orlando always sucked. I was living in South Fla at time near Stuart. And we got some some great radio stations from Orlando that I liked.
WOMX Mix 105, 98.9 WMMO, WWLV Love 94.5 Daytona, Magic 107.7, Sunny 101.1 WSTF
from Cocoa Bch/ Space Coast, All 5 because of the Cent Fla radio towers all being 100kw at at least 1600 ft
    boomed into Stu.
And because its flat as a pancake except NW going toward Ocala. In Orl proper you got 4 more stations.
You get Tampa at time W-101 WUSA, Mix 95.7 , NW you get 98.5KTK, and used to be Ocala's 93.7 WMMZ Z-93. Before they blew it up and changed to country in 1994. How do I know? I was supposed to be their evening jock. Until they fired everyone incl my future boss. All 9 of these stations were Adult Contemp and Hot Ac stations.
Which was rare to have so many in any radio US market. Only SF, Pitt because they are both on hills,
    and Chicago had so many.
So spent a week up there about 100 miles nw of me by Stuart.
Check out the area see if I wanted to try it out. It was a huge disappointment. Outside the Orange Blossom Trail,
which kind of reminded me of Dade- NW 2nd Av between Palmetto and Broward line back then. 167th St and 215.
Poverty, and blight in Orlando never were camouflaged. It was the 1st Fl city that scared the hell out of me.
Even Overtown Miami's worst hood was not as scary looking. Liberty City was only area that reminded me of Orlando.
I don't know if Disney and industry that moved in since 90's
has helped. Or made it worse. But you couldn't pay $1 mil to ever live in O.
I could always say same about St Pete, Ft Myers, Sarasota, Ocala, Gainesville, Daytona, Titusville, Tally, and most of Jax as well. Though when in radio I survived 6 mos living off Dunn @95, not far from Jax Intl.
Back then Tampa was not good, I heard its improved. West Palm was mostly hood, so was/is Ft L, Miami anything
outside downtown was crap. Especially whole NW anything. But even NE was very seedy esp by Biscay, US 1 all the way up to NMB.

To myself it’s a big improvement to living in Minnesota. Up there it didn’t rain most of the year. The summer no rain so you had to spend a lot of money watering your yards. And to shut down and blow out your water lines before the winter hit mid October. Then the place was frozen solid through May. Then it was way too hot and humid.
Orlando is so much better Oct. through May it doesn’t hardly rain … maybe 10 times per season. Always Sunshine, everyone in a good mood. And best of all compared to up north … Not passive aggressive. In addition to the taxes being way lower. With way many more things to do. I see very little bit to like about Orlando.

Plus traffic is absolutely miserable in the Tampa area. Plus the area is really run down like the roads in comparison to the nice perfect roads in Orlando.
