    @4:00, Couldn't we separate the sentence as 'she loved Sir Reginald' and 'Lady Penelope hated his pranks'. And 'although' like 'but' behaves as a conjunction that joins two independent clauses. Please clarify.

    • @ZeekTrep13

      I was thinking the same thing. In the first sentence, he removes the conjunction to evaluate whether the clauses are dependent or independent, but in the second sentence he does not. If he would've removed "although" before evaluating, it would've left "she loved Sir Reginald", which is an independent clause. Can anyone provide any clarity here?

    Hello, great lesson here though I have a very confusing question.
    'Although' is a subordinating conjunction. When you remove it, it makes the remaining two sentences both independent. What then makes the difference between subordinating and coordinating conjunctions.
    Rather, should we master them( subordinating and coordinating conjunctions) just as formulas?

    • @valussicelinalucero6603
      @valussicelinalucero6603 ปีที่แล้ว

      I dont know if i got your question right, but the thing that makes a sub or coor. conjunction is the meaning of the word itself. Sure we can leave the subj. conjunctions out but then it becomes stale. When we use them to make clauses dependant we allow them to be richer grammatically.
      when the conjunction means opposittion (like and, but, yet) it prbably is a coordinating conjuction, when it states a conection or a follow up (likebecause, then, so that) is a suboordinate conjuction.
      hope I helped a lil bit haha

    Sorry I still didn't get it
    If we removed 'although' we get "she loved Sir Reginald" which is (if I'm not wrong) a sentence.
    But if we say 'although she loved Sir Reginald' yeah it provokes questions in my head.
    But as an example 'I like apple yet I don't have it'
    If we take the part 'yet I don't have it' it still provoke questions in my head.

    • @arisia6974
      @arisia6974 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      but if we don't remove any of the conjunctions then we can say that after separating the clauses the compound sentence makes sense and the complex one doesn't

    • @asian_sensation_6998
      @asian_sensation_6998 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      FANBOYS are Coordinating conjunctions. They unite Independent clauses to each other so yeah.

    • @kennethmuse8956
      @kennethmuse8956 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're right there ,my friend! Fanboys, coordinating conjunctions, are used for joining Two independent clauses.
      I know what you mean. Subordinating conjunctions join one independent clause and one dependent clause.
      For instance:
      Although there is raining outside, I will go out.
      We could say ' there is raining outside ' is independent clause ,but when we add with 'Although' ,it becomes dependent clause. If the clause with 'Althugh' is alone , it doesn't make sense. The reader would like to know what will happen next after this clause: 'Although there is raining outside' ,so it doesn't have a complete meaning. Ask yourself it makes sense or not? Therefore, 'Although there is raining outside' is a dependent clause. So, dependent clause is a clause depends on the independent clause ,and it doesn't make sense if it is alone.
      I hope this is useful for you. I tried my best for you to understand what is dependent clause. :)
