Queen Cleopatra VII, the last active ruler of the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt, is one of history's most captivating and enigmatic figures. Born in 69 BCE, Cleopatra was a member of the Ptolemaic dynasty, which was of Macedonian Greek origin. She ascended to the throne in 51 BCE, initially ruling alongside her younger brother Ptolemy XIII, whom she married according to Egyptian custom.
Cleopatra's reign was marked by her ambitious and astute political maneuvers to maintain Egypt's independence amid the growing power of Rome. Known for her intelligence, political acumen, and charisma, Cleopatra forged critical alliances through her liaisons with prominent Roman leaders. Her first significant relationship was with Julius Caesar, whom she met in 48 BCE after he arrived in Egypt pursuing his rival Pompey. Cleopatra and Caesar became lovers, and she bore him a son, Ptolemy XV, commonly known as Caesarion.
Following Caesar's assassination in 44 BCE, Cleopatra aligned herself with Mark Antony, one of Rome's leading generals and a member of the Second Triumvirate. Their romantic and political alliance produced three children and was cemented by their combined military and economic strength. Cleopatra and Antony's relationship, however, antagonized Octavian (the future Emperor Augustus), Caesar's grand-nephew and another member of the Triumvirate, leading to a civil war.
The conflict culminated in the naval Battle of Actium in 31 BCE, where Octavian's forces decisively defeated those of Antony and Cleopatra. The couple fled to Egypt, where, facing inevitable defeat, they chose to end their lives. Antony died in Cleopatra's arms after a failed suicide attempt, while Cleopatra is said to have died from the bite of an asp (a venomous snake), although the exact circumstances of her death remain a subject of speculation.
Cleopatra's death in 30 BCE marked the end of both the Ptolemaic Kingdom and the Hellenistic period, leading to Egypt's annexation by Rome. Cleopatra is remembered as a complex and multifaceted leader: a shrewd politician, a symbol of romantic intrigue, and a formidable ruler who sought to preserve her country's sovereignty in an era of expanding empires. Her legacy endures in both historical and popular imagination, representing the enduring allure of ancient Egypt.

What we call "BEAUTY" today... was NOT what they called "Beauty" back then LOL... Cleopatra DID NOT look like that, she was quite UGLY by today's standards. In fact, she looked rather MANLY in the face with a long hooked nose but supposedly had a nice body. But that also depends on what they considered a "nice body" lol.. I don't think we would like it today. 🙄
