    I can't thank you enough for this video. I woke up Thursday morning to frost and no heat in my truck; Nissan wanted to charge me $150 just to look under the hood. Fortunately, I found you video, realized that I had the same issues you described and 5 minutes after popping the hood and following your instructions I had heat. You saved me over $218 with this video! Thank you!!!

    You're a genius? You just saved me another $528, after I have spent $712.93 dollars at Firestone. With no results. They couldn't diagnose the real issue. And they finally recommended to the dealership suspecting that the heater core could be the problem.
    Thank you. May God continue to bless you and add to your knowledge.

    Live in FL and have not used my heater since Feb. Took off this morning from Tampa at 81 degrees. Get to SC and temp drops into the 50's. Turn on the heater and nothing but cold air. It made for a cool drive for about two hrs to our hotel. I was in a panic thinking we can't proceed on our trip north without heat. Jumped in TH-cam and see this is a common problem and thanks to GREAT people like JTM, I am confident I can at least get my heat back to continue our Thanksgiving trip.
    JTM, no way I could possibly thank you enough. Its one thing to have a problem when you are driving around town a few miles form home, it another when you are 800 miles form home packed with a weeks luggage and 3 mid teen age kids :)
    TH-cam needs to set up "tip jars" for videos like this. Thanks again JTM!!!!
    ****Update: worked like a charm! Fixed in 5 mins this morning. One suggestion, check out the following video, I used this technique and it worked perfectly for a longer term fix: **th-cam.com/video/0fdUNCsXJhM/w-d-xo.html****

I seen your vid and it fixed it. Thanks alot I didn't want to take the dash off again whew lol. Thanks alot brother.

    This worked for me!
    Some things I found:
    1) My inlet/outlet coolant pipes were the SAME temp (at least with my heat sensor). Not sure if was because of being outside, but there wasn't a huge external temp difference on the external coolant pipe. After troubleshooting, I decided "what the heck", and took it apart and adjusted... and it worked. So if you are not sure or you have the same temp, give it a go...it only took 5-10 minutes and ended up being the problem for me. - it also could be that I checked too close to the valve itself.
    2) My Heater Control Valve would make a buzzing sound when turning on/off the car depending on if the heater was turned on/off. So you could also listen (or feel) the unit while someone turns it on/off. After the repair it no longer buzzes.
    3) I used a "twisty tie" (the one that comes with garbage bags). I removed the plastic coating, and then twisty tied the rod, using pliers to add tension to the twist, so the worm gear stays in place.
    Not sure how long it will last for, but seems to be back to working and no issues!
    Thank you!!!

    Thanks for your wisdom! I just drove my 2015 Armada this morning and it was 43 degrees outside. My first thought was "fuse blown", but I quickly eliminated that idea. I will say that I am mechanically inclined, with a self proclaimed rating of 5.5 on a scale of 1 to 10 where 1 is call a tow truck and 10 is ASE Certified Professional Mechanic.
    After I popped the hood and did a quick visual survey, I went directly to the heater control valve. I figured that the issue was in that area, because #1 the black rubber heater hose was going through the firewall to the core, and this was the only bottle neck I could think of that was the probable issue. I checked the hose temps by hand, just by instinct, and I knew this heater valve was definitely the issue. I came inside watched your tutorial video and you confirmed my suspicions. I followed your "quick fix" and my Armada is warm a toasty once again.
    Thanks for your guidance and knowledge!!
    -Walter

    • @johnthemechanic3360

      It shouldn’t have too much of effect If your air mix door is working OK, But if for some reason it’s not as cold as you like you can always go back and just manually turn the valve 90° the other way to shut off the flow.thank for watching!

When I take the valve off, will I have to deal with coolant fluid going everywhere? Thanks for the awesome, straightforward video!

      Sorry it took so long to get back to u! yes u have to change hoses also they come with it , its all one piece. you will have coolant spilling out when u change , so u need to bleed system after u install. thanks for watching!

    I've got a heater that will only spit out hot air after the engine has been goin for a long time. At first, it was only 5 minutes, now, I get over halfway to work before it starts spitting out hot air.
    Thoughts?

    • @johnthemechanic3360
      @johnthemechanic3360  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sounds like you might have an air pocket. If you takeoff the coolant reservoir cap and let it run it will take out any air pockets. Just make sure there’s plenty of coolant in there. Not the radiator cap the coolant reservoir cap take that off and rev the engine. Thanks for watching

    1) So if I’m getting the clicking from the blend door or whatever- does that mean it needs to be replaced??
    2) Haven’t tried this fix yet- but hoping it’ll solve my cold air only problem. I live in Arizona and it’s been in the 40s in the mornings but going to start heating up soon and will get in the 90s-100s in a few months. Would you still recommend this as a fix? Saw one of your comments about the air not going to be as cool due to this fix- or will it still be cool ENOUGH come Summer? Heat gets brutal out here....thanks!

    • @johnthemechanic3360
      @johnthemechanic3360  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah the clicking noise is a different concern they are behind your dash panel. If you’re not getting heat you probably need to do this, when summer comes you can always turn it back. The clicking noise is the actuators that more or less controls the airflow. Thanks for watching! Just checked both sides of hoses if one is hotter than the other you definitely need to do this video.

    Thanks for the video! I replaced my actuator that was hot on one side, cold on the other, and I'm still getting freezing cold air. Is there a fuse somewhere that controls this? I replaced the popping blend door actuator first, then this, and now I don't know where to look next. Thanks again!

    • @johnthemechanic3360
      @johnthemechanic3360  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello - there is no fuse it gets power straight from the control unit. so check for voltage at connector with heater control on. If u got power u need to bleed system. That valve is mounted high up so u need to bleed the heck out of it. Usually u can take the cap off the plastic overflow resivoir, make sure its got plenty of coolant and rev engine with heater on full blast. U should feel heat come back slowly. sorry i couldnt get back sooner . thanks 4 watching!

    John, I took my 2004 Titan to a Nissan dealership to diagnose why I'm not getting heat into the cab. They told me that it's one of two things. It's either a blend door actuator (part is $49) or the HVAC controls (part is $484) that need replaced and that labor for which ever one is faulty will be $667. 1) I can see the labor for the actuator being that high, but the HVAC control panel is right there in the front of the dashboard and seems like it can be popped out. Your thoughts, please? And 2) Can I be confident that the technician DID test the HEATER CONTROL VALVE as a normal part of a Nissan technician's protocol when diagnosing "no heat"?

    • @johnthemechanic3360
      @johnthemechanic3360  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello - if its your ac actuator u should hear alot of clicking from your dash area, and u are right the control unit is easy to swap out. U just need to remove some trim pieces. As far as the control valve just see if its hot on both sides after car is warmed up. Its by far the most common failure for no heat. Or ask them to do it, they should have checked but u never know . thanks 4 watching!

      What that is is ur Ac actuator that controls all the doors .Usually its the one behind glove box for temp ,it’s a pain to get to. If the valve is working correctly yhe hoses will be too hot to hold, if they are just warm it still the valve, u can also take off cap and see if it moves when u turn heater knob. sorry i took so long getting back, thanks for watching!
