    Who is Ron Spomer
For 44 years I’ve had the good fortune to photograph and write about my passion - the outdoor life. Wild creatures and wild places have always stirred me - from the first flushing pheasant that frightened me out of my socks in grandpa’s cornfield to the last whitetail that dismissed me with a wag of its tail. In my attempts to connect with this natural wonder, to become an integral part of our ecosystem and capture a bit of its mystery, I’ve photographed, hiked, hunted, birded, and fished across much of this planet. I've seen the beauty that everyone should see, survived adventures that everyone should experience. I may not have climbed the highest mountains, canoed the wildest rivers, caught the largest fish or shot the biggest bucks, but I’ve tried. Perhaps you have, too. And that’s the essential thing. Being out there, an active participant in our outdoor world.

I really like my 300 wsm loaded with 178 grain eld x bullets at 3050 fps. Not a real hot rod load, but it has a very flat trajectory out to my self imposed hunting range limit of 500 yards

I like my .300 WSM. It shoots Federal 200gr Terminal Ascent bullets to an average of 2900fps out of my Browning high wall. That's 3734 ft lbs of energy at the muzzle. 6.8 Western can't even come close.

Ron. I’m interested in the 270. What iteration of it do you recommend for southern whitetail and hogs. Love the videos.

Cant go wrong with any of them really. I live in Louisiana and own a 270win and a 6.8 western. Love them both for all the hunting I do, but the 6.8 edges out the 270 in performance. 270 has the nostalgic appeal and ammo choices though. Pick one and commit to it is what I say. You're going to be dropping 85lb does and 350lb boars with either one of them, so just get one or the other and start finding the factory ammo that it shoots best. I find myself sticking with the 6.8 just for extra long range performance and because I think faster spin plays a big part in bullet expansion. After all, velocity isnt the only source of energy on target

@@ringofasho7721I have a 6.5 creed already. Gonna build another and looking for a bigger caliber to round out the collection. I really like the 6.8 western on paper but felt it’s too close in size to the 6.5. I was considering an ‘06 to round out the rifles on the big end
