A build like that is not cheap for the components.. 🤔Always enjoyable to watch.. I remember building along with your floss builds in 2015/16.. How time flies.. ✌️
I was also burning standofs. Than I start puting a short piece of silicone tube on while soldering. You can get this tube in local RC shop. They are using it for metanol fuel. You can also use silicone gumies for softmount FC.

Great video, I really appreciate it! I'll be doing a very similar build soon, and I hadn't seen anyone actually build the Unity F7 yet, so I learned some tips here :)
I love the speed estimate for the pins you cut off the headers. Rather accurate, they fly approximately transsonic speeds across the room :-)
Nice clean build. Love that Five33 frame, sturdy and light!
For future builds you could use metal stack screws just to hold it in place until your done soldering then swap them out for plastic.

Wow. Really nice work. I have not heard of or done the direct mount yet, - always end up with bundles of wires everywhere.
BTW: I have had cap legs short against frame or other multiple times. ALWAYS assume the worste, and take precautions!!
power to weight ratio of this build (with battery) is over 14:1, that's nuts. Awesome build.
Nice build, only issue I see with it is you cant quickly change a receiver or vtx. I like how Evan does it where he mounts receiver and vtx to the bottom of the top plate.
My build isn't meant to function like that though. Just a different choice, nothing wrong. I have never broke a VTX or RX building like this.
@@TheRCAddict I know some people aren't a fan of mounting them using the pins. I guess it just comes down to preference.

Nice job on the build 😁👌 looks great , just one little thing I noticed was when you was soldering the flight controler on top of your motor 😱 bit scary if a little solder goes inside , but everything was very cool 👍🏼 nice work
What camera angle do you race with?
I'd be careful with that esc... I gave it a try and it had voltage spikes that went up to 50v which killed 3 of my fc's before I realized that was the issue
How’d you measure these voltage spikes. I’ve had no problems so far in the 4 builds I’ve used it in.

The RCAddict I measured the spikes using a digital oscilloscope
I've had decent luck, but I'm running a 50V 660uF cap, and powering the FC indirectly off that cap... but I'm primarily running 5S (2250-2400KV) with that, which probably helps a bit too.

My pervious kwad was 300g without props and now I’ve dropped to 275 without props. I noticed a HUGE HUGE performance upgrade, did you? I also went to vertical arms so it “feels” pretty similar with how it corners. It’s just a hell of a lot faster
Dropping 25g is definitely noticeable yeah.
I just dropped 50g from a 600g uaw to a 550auw freestyle rig.. Huuge difference too.. I'm not much in to racing though
Love the close up shots showing the build details! Do you think the stack would work well in a long range build with VTX cranked up to max output or would it need more breathing room? I think I still may try it just for the neat spot to mount the crossfire rx alone.
It would probably be fine, but in a long range build where there's plenty of room, might as well spread it out. Could just run wires to the pads to separate and cool everything if you still wanted to use this fc.

I wouldn't really change anything besides maybe a TBS Unify or Evo, but it's perfectly fine as is.
This is, the best build video I have seen so far. Great job. I would still need to get my build under the magic 250 gram number. Just wondering, can you add a GPS to this flight controller?
Not too familiar with gps, but should be able to add it to a free uart just fine
@@TheRCAddict Thanks. I couldn't really tell if it had any spare uarts. Does the FC support all the inav functions such as RTH, Failsafe return to home and land etc.?
a couple years ago I dunked a 4" into a puddle and only killed one motor. I used clear nail polish.
How has the iflight ESC been holding up?

The liquid tape should peel off just fine as one piece
When the 3 wires from the motor u soldered to the black bar....what is the black bar??? I tot is esc???
What do you think about the TransTec Laser and hybrid layouts? They look pretty badass.
No need to modify the wiring harness of the ESC to make it work with the FC?
They don't seem to stock the 1900kv motors. They have the 1800kv. is 1800kv version OK or can you recommend an alternative? Thanks.
You could just plug in a USB cable, then it is very difficult to get the conformal coating inside the plug
You can do that yeah, I've never gotta any inside by just paying attention where I'm brushing haha
I try to find the equivalent tape in Europe in the description I read 0,0057 inch that mean 0.15mm it's correct ?

So you can do 🐢 mode. It will help you to turn over your drone without doing a walk the shame! 🤣🤗 It helps to to turn over upside, upright, so you can fly away safely without any damage 🙌🏼👊🏼

Re liquid electrical tape to secure the ufl connection. If you have to replace the pigtail antenna can it be done without breaking the ufl connector on the vtx? I use mcx connector but for smaller build not very ideal. Ufl connector I found can become loose. Happened twice to me. I have been looking for solution to secure it with option for repair.

what are the pins you use to join the fc and the vtx called?
At 20 min you mentioned using the flipped cable to connect the ESC and FC. I did that and burned the FC. It's the wrong cable. Or maybe your version was different?
Sometimes cables change or multiples are included, you always need to verify where each wire is going to be sure.
@@TheRCAddict first time I encountered the power and ground on the other side. Another expensive lesson learned.
Does the lipo battery catch fire even though you're not using your drone or it will catch fire only when you neglect charging it thank man
When a battery is above or below it's nominal state it is taking damage. The higher or lower it is, say 3v per cell or 4.4v per cell the worse it is. As long as you aren't storing batteries at very high charge levels there is almost zero chance it will explode. It may drop a cell or weaken but won't explode. Explosions or fire happen when charging incorrectly almost always. Say a pack drops a cell to 0 while you aren't using it then you plug it in parallel to charge and it heats up so much it goes into thermal runaway. Just make sure to always check the battery isn't physically damaged and check the voltages before charging.

Did you say the stack screws are nylon? Is that a weight savings? I always hated how often nylon standoffs would break so I went to steel screws. Have you not had issues with breaks?
Yes, I prefer to save my stack and have the screws break instead. It's annoying at times, but I haven't had an egregious amount of issues.
What do call that plate connector on ur motor?
Will this work with elrs recyvers too ?

Can I use a 33A esc to build a 5 inc racing drone with 2800kv motors?
It should be ok
I see two very strange mistakes for professional racer:
1. the purpose of using conformal coating before soldering :)
2. huge capacitor is not mounted to anything: one leg will break and all your ESC and probably FC will burned out.
Why would I not coat before I solder, once I add the VTX and RX I won't be able to reach where I need to. The capacitor is not huge, it's smaller than most use, and it's pretty protected in the back and I've never broken one off like this.
Go back to build school, non of these things are "strange" or a "mistake" at all.
Due to being able to reach the coating to all surfaces desired, that is why prior use. Not huge at all this cap, legs work this weight just fine.

I love these motors, iFlight has been a great support to me. Also the 533 weren't out back then.

So about 280 with props? That's reeeally close to my two recent builds. cmw merica with custom pod 276g and bms js-1 282g . Both with 2207.5 so probably some weight savings to be had there.
This frame does look nice but I had it in my head that I want to try something aerodynamic.
About 280 yeah. Could def lose like another 30g overall but I'd rather have it setup how I have here and take the extra weight.

Could save 15g on motors using xnovas, 5g on antenna with ufl, 10g on frame screws to alu, and 5g on no immortal t and lighter props.
@@TheRCAddict poop... I already have ufl, aluminum screws, and no immortal t. Motors are about the only thing I have left.
Run this with the side strake/rudder/brace things... unless you're talking about going full top speed

You COULD, however you'd need very skinny escs to fit on the arms.
