- Spring Break is just around the corner! I wanted to share some of my favorite kayak and wade fishing spots in the Corpus Christi and Port Aransas area. These spots are a little off the beaten path and allow for better opportunities at catching some nice Redfish, Trout, Flounder, and Black Drum. I even share a couple of personal fishing secrets.

I really like your video on the break down of these spots. i grew up fishing most of those spots but have moved about 20+ years ago and return to fish several times a year there. I am always looking for new spots but seeing your video gives me the reassurance that I can still go back a tackle those areas again and catch fish. THANKS!!!!!!

Great info! Careful at Kates- I got stuck one evening and nobody around. The tow truck couldnt get out there until midnight to pull me out.

Thanks for your information!! Been out on Wilson’s Cut before they locked the gate & caught some nice reds in those flats. Recently, I’ve heard of car/truck break ins & been skeptical in leaving my truck unattended..
Its a fun spot to fish for sure! I've also heard about break ins there. In fact, I almost talked about that in the video. I've gotten to where I take all my valuables from my truck and leave it unlocked while I'm fishing. Hopefully that way they'll spare my window!
Thanks so much for sharing your favorite spots, I grew up in Aransas Pass but now live in Corpus Christi and have wanted to get back in to fishing over here. I just sold a boat but am hoping to buy a Sea Doo Fish Pro that I think will definitely get me close to these spots.. . again thanks for sharing because so many fisherman will not share. That's a good point! Wilson's Cut is also very good for fly fishing.

Thanks for the video it was very helpful I've been to Wilson cut but was at wrong areas. We will go this weekend...can we find wind protection if it picks up
I'm glad it was helpful! Thanks for the comment! You will be able to stay pretty well protected from the wind if you get on the north side of the islands. Just be aware that on a SE wind like we're expecting this weekend, the larger flats can get pretty dicey.
At Bird Island basin at the windsurfing area I always catch fish there
I've never had luck over there fishing artificials. I've caught a few fishing with shrimp.
@@SchwindOutdoors it’s great over there with live or dead shrimp when I fish there I either fish straight out in front or I walk left always have good luck

Ive been looking for Corpus Christi area fishing info. Glad I found your channel. I have a jon boat on a small trailer. Are these access points "kayak only" or would they be potential launch points for a jon boat? I hope to see your micro skiff out there some day. It looks great!
Thanks for the comment! I think all of the spots that I've shared would be great for a jon boat. You should consider launching at Bird Island in the National Seashore and fishing the Islands across the Channel. The skiff is registered and ready to go! I just need a free weekend now!
Excellent tips! What areas would you recommend this time of year in December?
You know, I had a lot of luck fishing around the intake of the power plant. Launch out of Bluffs Landing and hang a right!
What about flounder? Gigging? Any suggestions?
How long does it take to paddle from the Wilson’s cut launch out to that shell beach you mentioned? Seems like a decent ways…
With good wind conditions, you can paddle there in about 20 minutes. You just have to watch the wind while you're out there. It can be a challenge getting back if it picks up!

I understand this guy’s intentions are good, but sharing these spots does more harm than he realizes. The reason alot of these spots get blocked off is because of people over running the area. They tear up the path, trash the land, and over fish the area till it looks like the rest of the trashed spots. I’ve grown up on the coast and have witnessed first hand how social media/ TH-cam can diminish the quality of fishing in these once hidden/pristine gems.😕
I appreciate the comment. These spots that I have shared are no secret. They can easily be found all over the internet, some of which are even posted on the city of Corpus Christi and Port Aransas's websites. My intent was to help people with the strategy on how to fish them. I also aim to promote conservation and sportsmanship, which includes picking up your own trash and trash that you might find. We need to foster a sense of stewardship towards these places. I think the overall fishery will benefit from proper education, not attempting to keep it to ourselves.

When are you going to take your skiff to some of these areas?
I've taken it to a couple of them. It works great!
What's your go to, plastics or live? Just got back into kayaking after over a year lay off. And trying to get into using more plastics and getting better with them.
My go to soft plastics are the Down South Lures. I love the bone diamond color in clear water and the chicken of the sea in darker water. I don't fish a lot with live, but when I do I use live shrimp.

😄 great question. I have wade fished them for years and I'm still alive. Typically you won't see sharks in the area, but it wouldn't be unheard of for a small one to be interested in your stringer.
@@SchwindOutdoors ahahahaha ok good to know thank you. i really love fishing, im also really freaked out by deep water so i have a constant struggle haha just looking at those drop off on the map gave me the willies
also if you dont mind which waders would you go with for these spots? im headed down to flour bluff from alabama tonight. itll be my second trip and ill have alot more time to fish this round. thanks for help.
@@dirtlegchaser2424 honestly, I have used Magellan brand rubber waders for years and they have been great. Just make sure you shuffle your feet when walking to scare off stingrays. When the water is warm enough, and it might be now, I wear fishing pants and stingray boots.
@@dirtlegchaser2424 I'm right there with you man! In the bay, the most important things to watch out for are stingrays and oysters.
Bird Island is a bust. $25 to get in plus another fee to use the boat ramp. I paid to tent camp and the tent sites arent even marked. I ended up leaving and never even camped.
I came in at night so they didnt get my $25. PINS sucks
