Rngnd1314 we see the same ole sky after all this time because space is fucking massive. We have moved relative to the stars in the sky, but they’re so far away that in a human lifetime you wouldn’t be able to notice the change. Not to mention that the closest stars which are also the brightest are orbiting the centre of the Milky Way the same as we are and so have the same inertial frame of reference, thus do not appear to move relative to us.

Years ago, during a “Bar Trivia” event, the question was “what happened between September 2 and 14, 1752. When I answered “absolutely nothing”, and the trivia master answered “correct”, you could have heard a pin drop. . .
a better answer would have been "it depends where you were." In most os the world, lots happened. Only in british sphere of influence is "absolutely nothing" exact.
@testing Because Earth has enough velocity that it can escape crashing into the Sun. Basically, orbiting is a fancy way of saying falling and missing.
I really want to make a "Ten Levels of Calendar Math Complexity" video, because there's a ton of fascinating stuff this video leaves out. The solar year is a different length depending on which point in Earth's rotation you choose to measure from, because seasons are slightly different lengths (up to about an hour difference!) due to Earth's elliptical orbit, spreading precession out unevenly between the seasons. While the amount of time it takes the Earth to orbit the Sun is mostly constant, the length of a mean solar day changes over time, so the number of days per year isn't constant; this means that the Gregorian calendar will actually drift much quicker then a simple calculation would suggest, and in fact no fixed leap year rule will last more then about 10,000 years. There's some really interesting math behind choices of leap cycles, relating to different ways of approximating numbers as fractions. Also, months and all of their complexities. It's fun.
This guy simply skipped Iranian OMAR KHAYYAM the one who set Jalali calendar which is more accurate than Gregorian calendar and is the most accurate calendar in the world. When it comes to astronomy you can't (unintentionally) ignore Persians. 😉

If animations like this were around when I took astronomy years ago, I would have spent MUCH less time wracking my brain and trying to visualize the motions of everything in the sky! Great graphics; Great learning tool!
man I still have a hard time figuring it out, had to use stellarium to just make a clear image on how the night sky moves over months years and days due to different types of movement.
@@StagnantMizu It's not too hard. The hardest part is just learning where the controls are. They tend to drop to the edges of the screen. For you, try moving your mouse to the bottom left corner, then on the bar that pops out from the left, choose the second from the top. That is date and time. Set the time to when at night you want to observe, then you can change the days and months. There you go!

About Vsauce's knowledge of helical orbit : Search on TH-cam for a playlist by Scientific American called "Our place in the solar sytem - TH-cam Space Lab". In 2011, thanks to mainstream science knowledge, the solar system according to Michael Stevens of Vsauce in that playlist, was like the one Nat Geo shows in the 2nd video in it at 0:54 - ellipses and yellow sun :-) Next search for a video of Vsauce called "What if the sun disappeared" of 2013 and at 1:49 you see ellipses and yellow sun. LOL. Same story in his 2014 video, "What is the earth worth ?" at 4:07. Fortunately, in 2016, he seems to have acquired better knowledge and shows helical orbit in the video called "How Earth Moves". I won't be surprised if the viral video of music dj Sadhu's helical orbits played any part in it, bcos in 2015, Sadhu’s corrected part-2 video was released and astrophysicist Rhys Taylor gave it more credibility. Timelines tell an interesting story. Anyway, it is a good development.

However after my own research, use of common sense, passion to search for truth and knowledge, and an open mind that allows me to consider all possibilities. If not to show the truth could he make a video that he is able to respectfully disprove: 200 Proofs the Earth is Not a Spinning Ball By: Eric Dubay or watch his video here on youtube or many other videos he has put out on the subject. The truth shouldn't run or worry about investigation. Also I'd like to point out, if the thought that yes people thought the Earth was flat for 1000s of years...but we are smarter now we know more now. Id like to point out that the accuracy that was used in building the pyramids was so precice it can't be achieved even today. The blocks are cut so accurately that something as small as a human hair can't be slipped between them. So the people 1000s of years ago were not dumb by any means.. Explain why People experience gravity. Use only your flat earth theory. You have all the time in a day.

@Daniel Vela We know it's not a disc because the apparent motion of the sun, moon and stars makes no sense. Because we can take a telescope and look at the moons of Jupiter (first observed in 1610 - no NASA back then). Because you can take latitude and longitude coordinates for any place on earth and there would be no question as to which position you were referring to. The distance between two degrees of latitude increases as you get to the equator and decreases as you move away. Easily verifiable by anyone with rudientary tools. And finally (for this list anyway) because the area of daylight over the earth which changes from day to day and season to season is explained only by the globe model. The fact that the FE model con't come close to explaining any of this is why no-one with a middle-school understanding of science or better belkieves in a flat earth.
@Daniel Vela Only problem is you have never been to Antarctica and you never will. There are ACTUAL photos of the ice wall though compared to the CGI cartoons NASA is always pushing out their as reality. CGI cartoons are not reality.
That's why they push this ridiculous narrative. To scare you into submission. Stop and think.. if the Earth really moves like this through the galaxy... how come the North Star has been in the exact same position for thousands of years? Why don't our stars ever change if we are constantly moving through the universe? And how is it even remotely possible that Haley's comet keeps coming back? It's not.
@@basedbear1605 Because everything is so far away. When I was a child, I was traveling in a car with family and my little cousin asked me, "Why does this big building seem to stand still?" It will take several generations of human life to see those stars and constellations behind us. If after all the years since humans have been around and we haven't seen it yet, this is another question of how fast our life really is.

a better answer would have been "it depends where you were." In most os the world, lots happened.
It's fun.
This must be the 10th time I watch this video and never gets me bored.

I was talking about vsauce in class and our maths teacher decided to put this video on. Was a very proud moment of mine.
Were you nervous that people wouldn’t like the video. That is always an anxiety for me when I am showing a video to say a family member I am nervous they won’t like it.
@@aidey8mph605 Not liking a Vsauce video is not an event that can happen within our Universe.
th-cam.com/video/v5fQXpZ0yr0/w-d-xo.html this is the class to watch . it's called : flight dynamics on a flat and non rotating earth
@@as7river or is it?
*vsauce music plays*
Do you take mathematicss? Because math is short for mathematics, maths is not a thing unless you learned English watching cable news.
How the video ended with showing you how far you will travel in your lifetime...
Wow. Just Wow.
Awesome job Vsauce
If you live to be 100
The galaxy is moving at 2.1m kilometres an hour pog
@@HaYzGaming 2.100.000 km/h. Calculate how many hours a century has and then calculate the total km you travelled in that century. You get a huge number. Now think that this huge distance is nothing compared to universe's total length. Damn we're small lmao
@@loukaspappas8476 fr bro I watched this vid high as balls and it legit blew my mind lmaoo
me when talking to friends: I'm so fucking smart
me when watching Vsauce: I literally contain zero knowledge
+Nate Jones nice positive comment bro, I can't believe I didn't think about that. You're literally a genius
ahh burn!!!! haha good one Blaqué_Taco
but this all pseudoscience
There is also a VSauce video explaining that the more we learn, gets bigger the universe of the unknown
Anthony ramos - And you're a pseudofuckwit.
Without doubt one of the greatest science videos every made. The last bit leaves you amazed and humbled. Fantastic. HAIL VSAUCE!
Just tumbling through space on a giant wet rock vehicle, don't mind me.
+dandude720 !
who is at the wheel, I forgot who is supposed to be driving?
+speedy01247 it's ok I'm not human but I'm driving
+Banana
God damnit keep your eyes on the road Banana!
I hate to kill you but it's been assumed that space moves too. Well not moves but warps by gravity
What a great 21 minutes! Alright, see you guys in 2 months...
Honestly! Atleast tell us what took you so long to come out with this video!
researching all this stuff, bring out them together as one topic, editing, and personal life is what make this video took so long to come out....
+Bharat Shamsukha Coming up with these ideas, planning, scripting, looking for examples online. Explaining how everything would work. It takes a long time.
No, I completely understand that. And i obviously respect their personal lives. its just most youtubers usually have a weekly schedule where they come out with something new, or daily for some vloggers. I was just wondering if Vsauce had one too, and if he just got busy, or what happened.
+Humam Hafiz They used to post a LOT more often. If they would focus less on the animations, they could lessen the time it takes to make every video. I would rather have an abundance of videos than some high quality animations in the video. They're cool, but no worth the time
21 minutes of your video , took me 2 hours to me to watch (time is relevant) as I paused it again and again to try to grab the concepts... And It worthed every single second. Thank you, I feel grateful having seen this.
me too, maybe cuz the concepts were just too much condensed for this short duration but it feels so damn satisfied to fully understand it though it tooks hours to do so
To try to-trying to
Worthed- worth
@@nullpo2478 Thanks , I never really understood the gerund -ing case. The same applies for worth-ed or worth... I just ''learned'' some english as a second language. I am greek speaker. Excuse my ignorance.
took me way longer because I went on and studied each concept lol
@@StagnantMizu Yeah, that's the right way to learn... ofcourse! Whatever one can study is a benefit or simply a joy!
Is the oldest person on Earth also the person who has traveled the farthest?
Vsauce: flatitude...
Flatearther: *AHA!!!*
rounditude
Trianglitude
Donutitude
Squaritude
The donutitude and squareitude reminded me of somrthing from r/cursedcomments lol and yes i did ruin the flow of the itudes
Beginning of video: How the earth moves.
Middle of video:What is day?
End of video:What is the definition of life?!
Snl
Logical conclusion
its beginning was about 1.your best friend, then 2.about Washington then 3.how what's a day, 4.calenders, 5.how earth moves, 6.the "life" pun
Odd Pooper first time watching vsauce?
Oumuamua
It's nice to revisit the golden era of Vsauce every once in a while.
Back before we ran out of unwatched videos.
Before we caught up with him.
The graphics in this video was very impressive for a TH-cam video! Great work!
Seriously. Awesome work vsauce
MattsMotorz yeah almost like he's corporate-sponsored ;D
were very*
All cgi lmao no real footage
Trev Stoe That's what makes it impressive. CGI takes a lot of work and not something you see happen a lot in TH-cam videos.
This videos should be included in the school curriculum
Watching this while stoned messed me up man.
same haha smoked 2 days ago and woke up stoned today but it helped me keep up with the video!
+Ostebrix There is no possible way for you to be stoned if you smoked 2 days ago you would be fine by now, just so you know, maybe you shouldn't lie about things like that unless you know exactly what you're lieing about.
MrTermite117 bro, I know when I'm high I've been awake for almost 3 hours now but it feels like forever. I was feeling normal before my nap, weed affects people differently and I have no reason to lie.
+Ostebrix Can confirm. After smoking, I get a random short-lived high sometimes for a few minutes up to 3 days later.
Opus Chrysis only few minutes? mine just went away after like 3 hours haha
